PURPOSE:To improve the S/N of a chroma signal for a VTR using a magnetic tape in which the frequency characteristics are deteriorated at lower frequencies, by processing a luminance signal and a chroma signal reproduced from a magnetic tape with separate reproducing amplifiers. CONSTITUTION:Signals reproduced from a magnetic head 12 are applied to an HPR26 and an LPF27, and a luminance signal frequency-modulated and outputted from the HPF26 is amplified at a reproducing amplifier 28 at high frequency band. On the other hand, a chroma signal outputted from the LPF27 is amplified at a reproducing amplifier 29 for low frequency exclusively with lowered noise. Thus, since the amplifier 29 exclusive use for low frequencies is employed for the chroma signal, the deterioration in the frequency characteristics at low frequencies can be compensated and the S/N of the chroma signal is improved.
