Abstract

PURPOSE: To detect the abnormality in restraining force at the contact face between a mold and an ingot by detecting the acceleration in the oscillation of the mold in the direction at a right angle to the drawing direction of the ingot and using the signal obtained by passing the detected acceleration to a specific low pass filter.
CONSTITUTION: A filter 3 is used to convert an acceleration signal to a displacement signal and is a low pass filter giving 12dB/oct attenuation characteristics. The detection signal from an accelometer 1 is passed through an amplifier 2 and is converted to a displacement signal with the filter 3. Part of the displacement signal is detected with a detector 4, and part thereof is inputted directly to comparator 5 where it is compared with a set level. When it is higher than the set level, a signal is outputted from the comparator 5. Part is inputted to an envelope detecting circuit 6, and is compared with a set level in a comparator 7. Part of the signal from the filter 3 is inputted to a band pass filter 8, is detected with a detecter 9, and is compared in a comparator 10. When an OR circuit 11 receives inputs from ≥1 of any of comparators 5, 7, 10, it outputs a signal to an alarm 12, then the operator inspects a recorder 13 and takes necessary remedy.
