Abstract
PURPOSE:To make an economical two-way optical communication possible, by using a single semiconductor element provided with the light emitting function and the light receiving function and by switching these functions by a switching control signal to operate them. CONSTITUTION:A signal inputted from a terminal 12 passes through a circuit 1 for driving the light emitting function and a switching circuit 2 and is transmitted as an optical signal to an optical fiber 6 by a semiconductor element 3. The optical signal which passes through the fiber 6 is converted photoelectrically by a semiconductor element 7 and passes through a switching circuit 8 and is amplified and has the waveform regenerated by an amplifier 10 for the light receiving function and is outputted to a terminal 15. When a control signal for switching light emitting and light receiving functions is sent at last, a control signal discriminator 5 discriminates the control signal to operate the circuit 2 and disconnects the circuit 1 and the element 3 and connects a receiving amplifier 4 for the light receiving function and the element 3. The control signal is inputted to a control signal discriminator 11 also through the circuit 8 and the circuit 10 and is discriminated to operate the circuit 8, and the element 7 and the amplifier 10 are disconnected from each other, and the element 7 and a circuit 9 for driving the light emitting function are connected, and the signal from a terminal 14 is outputted to a terminal 13.
