Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the quality of the intermediate tone reproducing picture with a simple method, by quantizing the picture concentration including intermediate tone, splitting the input video element regions into video element, and giving black to the video element unit sequentially from the center according to increased concentration level.
CONSTITUTION: The quantizing unit 51 quantizes the concentration signal S in five value to output the concentration signal Sq, and the buffer memory 52 stores the signal Sq for one line's share toward main scanning direction. The address controller 53 outputs the address signal with the control of the system controller 54 to read out the signal Sq from the memory 52. On the other hand, the address signal is converted into the address signal of the threshold (SH) matrix MT with the address converter 56 to output SHMT from the threshold level set memory 57. The comparator 55 compares the signal Sq with SHMT to output the signal giving black or white to the video elements 31a to 31d accoridng to the value of the signal Sq to the plotter control 58.
