Abstract

PURPOSE: To remove particles from the exhaust gas of an internal combustion engine, by bringing a trapper having a removing material and the exhaust gas into contact with each other at a temperature not lower than such a level that the removing material is in a liquid state or starch syrup state.
CONSTITUTION: When an internal combustion engine is run and its high-temperature exhaust gas flows into an exhaust passage coupled to the exhaust port of the engine, the removing material of a trapper provided in the exhaust passage is softened like starch syrup or liquid so that particles contained in the exhaust gas which passes through the trapper adhere to the removing material. The exhaust gas is thus cleaned. The exhaust gas is released into the atmosphere from the exhaust passage. Since the particles such as smoke or soot are removed to a prescribed quantity or less, the exhaust gas causes no pollution.
