本発明は、一般的に電子商品引換券(electronic vouchers)に関し、さらに具体的には、画像ファイルに組み込まれた秘密のデータを含む電子商品引換券画像、及びそのような電子商品引換券を発行するためのシステム及び方法に関する。

割引券またはギフト券のような商品引換券は、商店によって発行され、発行商店の商品またはサービスを将来購入することに対する信用を意味する譲渡可能な(negotiable)証書である。紙形式及びデビットカード商品引換券は、技術的にここしばらくの間周知となっているとともに、対面販売における支払い形式で用いられる。しかしながら、インターネットを介して電子的に財貨サービスを購入する消費者間での人気が増加するにつれ、電子商取引(e-commerce transaction)で用いることができる電子商品引換券に対する技術的な要望が生じてきている。

現在のところ、単独での電子商品引換券システムが存在するが、そのようなシステムは、開発及び維持のために非常にコストがかかり、かつ、ほとんどの小企業では電子商品引換券の発行を行うことができない。さらに、既存の電子商品引換券は、消費者が電子商取引をする際、入力を促されるのは、簡単な数またはキーワードに過ぎないもので構成される。一般的に、数またはキーワードは、発行商店を識別する企業のロゴまたは他のイメージを表示する紙商品引換券または証書のマーケティング力及び広告力にたちうちすることができない。最終的に、いくつかの既知の商品引換券システムは、操作のために消費者のコンピュータ上に私有のソフトウェアモジュールをインストールすることを余儀なくさせるが、それは若干数の消費者に前記電子商品引換券を利用することを思いとどまらせる可能性がある。

【課題を解決するための手段】

本発明の代表的な実施形態によると、システム及び方法は、価値を表す電子商品引換券の発行を提供する。発行サーバーは、受取人が商店の電子商取引ウェブサイトから財貨サービスを購入するために用いることができる電子商品引換券（eVoucher）を生成する。前記電子商品引換券は、企業のロゴかもしれない画像、または前記発行商店を識別するいずれかの印象的な画像を含む。非画像データは、電子商品引換券画像に埋め込まれ、前記電子商品引換券の受取人の使用を追跡し、それの真偽を証明するために用いられる。本発明の代表的代表的な実施形態によると、前記埋め込まれた非画像データは、前記電子商品引換券を独自に識別するシリアルナンバーを含んでもよい。前記発行サーバーは、使用後その都度、前記電子商品引換券内に残っている前記価値を追跡するとともに、その価値が使い尽くされるとすぐに前記電子商品引換券が再使用されないようにすることを保証するために前記シリアルナンバーを用いる。また、前記埋め込まれた非画像データは、結果的に前記ユーザにだけ知られる任意のテキストを含んでもよい。公開鍵暗号化技術を用いることによって、前記任意のテキストが前記発行サーバーの公開鍵を用いて暗号化されるとともに、前記画像内に埋め込まれる。前記発行サーバーは、前記暗号化された任意のテキストのコピーを格納する。そして、前記発行サーバーは、前記電子商品引換券が前記商店によって精算(redeem)されることを受取人が甘受するとき、記前記電子商品引換券画像の真偽を証明するために暗号化された任意のテキストを用いる。

図１は、本発明の代表的な実施形態に従って電子商品引換券を発行するシステムを示す図である。ユーザは、好ましくは、それぞれがマイクロソフトインターネットエクスプローラ（登録商標）のような従来のウェブブラウザをロードされているクライアントコンピュータ110a-dによって電子商品引換券システム100にアクセスできる。各クライアントコンピュータ110a-dは、インターネットのような従来のデータネットワーク120経由で発行サーバー130及びウェブサーバー160に接続されている。前記発行サーバー130は、以下でより詳細に説明されるように、電子商品引換券を発行するようにプログラムされている。この代表的な実施形態において前記クライアントコンピュータ110a-dは、好ましくはウェブブラウザを実行するパーソナルコンピュータであるが、変形例の実施形態では、クライアントコンピュータ110a-dは、パーソナルデジタルアシスタント(PDA)と、携帯電話と、双方向テレビと、他の移動通信装置とを含むインターネット接続可能な装置であってもよい。

電子商品引換券システム100の動作を説明する前に、電子商品引換券画像ファイルに情報が隠されているときの処理について説明する。各電子商品引換券は、本発明の代表的な実施形態に従って図２で表されるフォーマットのような画像ファイル200である。前記電子商品引換券画像ファイル200は、例えば、企業のロゴまたは前記電子商品引換券を発行する商店を識別する画像のような画像を定義する画像データを含んでいる。また、前記電子商品引換券画像ファイル200は、好ましくは前記電子商品引換券によって表された価値を示す画像を定義する画像データを含んでいる。好ましくは、画像ファイル200は、例えば、マイクロソフトウィンドウズ（登録商標）ビットマップフォーマット(BMP)またはグラフィックインターチェンジフォーマット(GIF)のような、損失のない(lossless)圧縮を用いる標準画像ファイルフォーマットを用いてフォーマットされる。

電子商品引換券画像ファイル内の各ピクセルの色は、好ましくは、赤、緑、青の３色成分の混合である。ピクセルの色を特定するために、データの3バイト（バイト/色成分）までが画像ファイルに割当てられる。24ビットカラーシステム（一般的に“true color”として知られている）は、3バイト全てを十分に活用するとともに、16,777,216色まで表示できる。しかしながら、ほとんどのカラーグラフィックディスプレイシステムは、8ビットカラーシステムであり、かつ、256色までの表示である。

電子商品引換券画像200を定義するのに用いた画像データ230のピクセルごとのビット数を減らすことは、結果として画像をレンダリングするのに使用できる色数を少なくすることになる。しかし、そのような減少は、画像のレンダリングにその他の点では影響を及ぼさない。結果として、画像の品質を妥協せずに電子商品引換券画像200で用いられた画像データ230のピクセルごとのビット数を減少し、かつ、前記画像ファイル内に非画像データを格納するために未使用部分を用いることが可能となる。一例として、本発明の代表的な実施形態に従って、図３に示された24ビット電子商品引換券画像ピクセルを考察する。前記ピクセルの3バイトそれぞれは、赤、緑、青を表すために十分に利用されているので、前記電子商品引換券画像300は、16,777,216色まで表示できる。

しかしながら、図４で表すように、前記24bpp画像データ300の各バイト内の少なくとも２つの重要なビットを用いることによって、１ピクセルにつき6ビットまでの非画像データが格納できる。前記電子商品引換券画像色解像度は、24bppから18bppまで（すなわち、16,777,216色から約65,536色まで）減少されるが、これは、前記電子商品引換券画像の質において、もしいくらか影響があるとしても取るに足らないものである。ほとんどのグラフィックシステムは、256色のみ表示することができる。

図１で示したように、前記発行人は、好ましくは前記発行サーバー130を有する。前記発行サーバーは、電子商品引換券を発行するウェブサイトを運営するウェブサーバー160に接続される。従って、前記購入者は、前記ウェブサーバー160を介して、前記発行サーバー130と、前記購入者のクライアントコンピュータ110a-d上で動作するウェブブラウザとの間の安全なインターネット接続上で、電子商品引換券を注文することが可能である。前記電子商品引換券を注文する場合、前記購入者は、好ましくは前記商品引換券の最後の受取人に関してのeメールアドレスと、前記受取人に対するメッセージと、前記電子商品引換券の所望の値とを入力するよう指示される。従来の支払い形式が用いられるが、前記電子商品引換券を購入するためには、前記購入者は、例えば、クレジットカード情報を入力してもよい。次いで、前記発行サーバーは、前記購入者によって入力された注文情報をデータベース140内に格納してもよい。

段階520では、前記発行サーバー130は、電子商品引換券画像ファイル200を含む電子商品引換券を生成する。前述したように、前記電子商品引換券画像ファイル200は、引き受けて支払う商店を識別する企業のロゴまたは任意の他の画像であってもよい。発行された各電子商品引換券が一度だけ用いることができるということを保証するために、前記発行サーバー130は、発行サーバー130が生成する各電子商品引換券に固有のシリアルナンバーを割当てる。前記シリアルナンバーは、従来の暗号化技術を用いて暗号化してもよいし、図２から図４までに関連してすでに説明した処理を用いて、前記電子商品引換券画像ファイルの非画像データビットに埋め込んでもよい。

前記シリアルナンバーは、データベース140に格納してもよいし、かつ、前記受取人に対し、精算(account)に対する固有の識別子として前記シリアルナンバーを用いて電子商品引換券精算が成立するようにしてもよい。従って、本発明の前記電子商品引換券システムは、電子商品引換券が用いられたかどうかだけでなく、前記受取人によって用いられるたびに、前記電子商品引換券にどれだけの価値が残っているかを記録しておく。

一旦、前記電子商品引換券が用いられた場合には、その電子商品引換券に割当てられた前記シリアルナンバーは、好ましくは、決して再度用いられないようにする。これら固有のシリアルナンバーを割当てるための処理は、当業者が容易に理解できるような従来のグローバル固有識別子(GUIDS)アルゴリズムを用いることによって実行してもよい。あるいは、前記シリアルナンバーの生成スキームは、各電子商品引換券のシリアルナンバーが最後に発行された電子商品引換券のシリアルナンバーよりも１つずつ増加するような簡単なリニアカウント(linear count)を用いて達成されてもよい。

２人以上が前記受取人のeメールアドレスにアクセスする可能性があるので、本発明の前記電子商品引換券システムは、、前記受取人だけが前記電子商品引換券を精算できるが、他の者は精算できないことを保証するようなセキュリティメカニズムを含んでいる。このセキュリティメカニズムは、U.S.特許第4,405,829号で十分に説明されているとともに、当業者にとって周知である従来の公開鍵暗号化に基づいている。前記セキュリティメカニズムは、受取人が前記電子商品引換券の前記購入者以外の誰かである場合に関して記載されているが、他の実施形態では、前記購入者及び前記受取人が同じであってもよい。この実施形態では、前記受取人の識別子は、前記電子商品引換券に含まれている必要はない。従って、例えば、購入者が電子商品引換券を買うとともに、その電子商品引換券を前記受取人として購入者自身に送ってもよい。次いで、前記購入者は、前記電子商品引換券を自由に自分自身で精算することができるし、または例えば、贈り物として前記電子商品引換券をさらに別の人に送ることもできる。

Claims (17)

  1. 画像を定義する画像データと、
    電子商品引換券を独自に識別する前記画像内に埋め込まれた非画像データと
    を備えたことを特徴とする電子商品引換券。
  2. 受取人を独自に識別する前記画像内に埋め込まれた非画像データをさらに備えたことを特徴とする請求項１に記載の電子商品引換券。
  3. 前記電子商品引換券の価値を識別する、埋め込まれた非画像データをさらに備えたことを特徴とする請求項１に記載の電子商品引換券。
  4. ウェブサーバーへのハイパーリンクを定義する、埋め込まれた非画像データをさらに備えたことを特徴とする請求項１に記載の電子商品引換券。
  5. 前記電子商品引換券を発行する発行人を識別する画像を定義する画像データをさらに備えたことを特徴とする請求項１に記載の電子商品引換券。
  6. 前記電子商品引換券の価値を識別する画像を定義する画像データをさらに備えたことを特徴とする請求項１に記載の電子商品引換券。
  7. 価値を表す電子商品引換券を発行するための分散型コンピュータシステムであって、
    前記システムは、
    発行サーバーと、
    前記非画像データのコピーが格納されるデータベースと
    を備え、
    前記発行サーバーは、
    画像データを含む画像ファイルを生成し、前記画像ファイル内に非画像データを埋め込み、かつ、前記埋め込まれた非画像データを含む前記画像ファイルを送信することを特徴とする電子商品引換券。
  8. 前記発行サーバーによって送信された前記画像ファイルを受信するクライアントコンピュータをさらに備えたことを特徴とする請求項７に記載のコンピュータシステム。
  9. 前記クライアントコンピュータは、さらに前記画像ファイルに含まれた前記画像データによって定義された画像を受取人に対して表示することを特徴とする請求項８に記載のコンピュータシステム。
  10. 前記発行サーバーは、前記画像ファイルを送信する前に前記画像ファイルを暗号化することを特徴とする請求項７に記載のコンピュータシステム。
  11. 前記発行サーバーは、実行可能なコンピュータプログラムを生成し、
    前記実行可能なコンピュータプログラムは、前記受取人によって入力された任意のテキストを暗号化するとともに、前記発行サーバーに前記任意のテキストを送信し、かつ、前記発行サーバーによって送信された暗号化画像ファイルを解読することを特徴とする請求項９に記載のコンピュータシステム。
  12. 価値を表す電子商品引換券を発行するための方法であって、
    画像を定義する画像データを含む画像ファイルを生成する段階と、
    前記画像ファイル内に非画像データを埋め込む段階と、
    前記非画像データのコピーを格納する段階と、
    前記画像データ及び前記埋め込まれた非画像データを含む前記画像ファイルを受取人に送信する段階と
    を備えたことを特徴とする方法。
  13. 前記埋め込まれた非画像データを暗号化する段階をさらに備えたことを特徴とする請求項９に記載の方法。
  14. 前記画像ファイルを暗号化する段階をさらに備えたことを特徴とする請求項９に記載の方法。
  15. 実行可能なコンピュータプログラムを生成する段階と、
    前記実行可能なコンピュータプログラムを前記受取人に送信する段階と
    をさらに備え、
    前記実行可能なコンピュータプログラムは、前記受取人によって入力された任意のテキストを暗号化するとともに、前記発行サーバーに前記任意のテキストを送信し、かつ、前記発行サーバーによって送信された前記暗号化画像ファイルを解読することを特徴とする請求項１１に記載の方法。
  16. 前記画像ファイルに含まれた前記画像データによって定義された画像を前記受取人に表示する段階をさらに備えたことを特徴とする請求項９に記載の方法。
  17. 前記表示された画像の選択において、前記受取人をウェブサーバーに接続する段階をさらに備えたことを特徴とする請求項１３に記載の方法。
