958,385. Voice-frequency signalling; automatic volume control. SIEMENS & HALSKE A.G. Nov. 28, 1960 [Nov. 27, 1959], No. 40876/60. Headings H4K and H4R. In a voice-frequency signalling system wherein signals are transmitted over a 4-wire circuit between two 2-wire circuits, an amplifier RV at the receive end has its gain controlled by the received signals so that the output to the receiver E is at the required level. In order to prevent false operation of the receiver E by signals reflected at the 4-wire-2-wire terminations it is arranged that the first signal received causes operation of relay X which disables the gain adjusting means of the amplifier for the duration of the train. The reflected signals being of lower level are thus unable to operate the receiver.
