Abstract

1418085 Automatic exchange systems INTERNATIONAL STANDARD ELECTRIC CORP 20 Sept 1973 [27 Sept 1972] 44088/73 Heading H4K An exchange system includes a substation having an auxiliary switch which, when manually actuated after a connection has been made, produces in the subscriber line a loopinterruption whose duration is independent of the duration of actuation and which when received at the exchange causes a dial-signal receiver to be connected to the subscriber line. The subscriber may then make a call to a third party while the line to the original called party is held. A tone may be sent to the subscriber when the dial-signal receiver has been connected. Actuation of the switch may also generate a distinguishing signal immediately prior to the loop interruption, so that the exchange can distinguish between the latter and an interruption of the same duration caused by depression of the hook-switch.
