Abstract

490,049. Electric water heaters. FERRANTI, Ltd., MOORE, J. R., SPEED, L. C., and WATKISS, J. H. Feb. 9, 1937, No. 3772. [Class 39 (iii)] A storage heater is provided with a plate 7 carrying a heating element 8, which maintains the water near boiling point, a heating element 9 and tubes 11, 12 surrounding the element 9 so that heated water only passes to the vicinity of that element which then heats it to boiling point before it is withdrawn. The tube 11 is open at both ends and carries at its upper end a baffle 16 and a reservoir 13 from which a pipe 14 leads to the draw-off tap 15. The tube 12 is open at the upper end only. The tank is fed through a pipe 6 from a cistern 5. The element 8 is controlled by a thermostat 10 to maintain the water at 160 to 190‹ F. The heating elements have separate control switches or a change-over switch is provided so that only one element can operate at one time. A switch controlling the main element may be interconnected with the draw-off tap. A condensing chamber 17 communicating with the tank by tube 18 is provided.
