Abstract

1278883 Cathode - ray tube displays BUNKER-RAMO CORP 11 Aug 1970 [11 Aug 1969] 38726/70 Heading H4T An arrangement for displaying graphically a succession of numerical values of a variable compares each value with a continuously counted up digital number, and when equality is recognized a signal is passed to bright-up an ordinate trace. Fig. 1 illustrates a C.R.T. dis play of the price movement of a single stock during a day's transactions, point 12 representing the previous day's closing price and the other points 14 the 18 most recent transaction prices. These 19 values are stored in digital form on a magnetic drum and read out in turn as the C.R.T. vertical raster moves from positions H6 to H24. For producing dots 14 the closing price value is used as a reference and after display (raster lines H6) is decrement ed by a "range" amount which as shown is 2 but may be changed to 4 or 8 as described below. At each of positions V3-V12 in a vertical raster stroke it is incremented and when equality is found between its value and that of a transaction the trace is brightened. If this brightening occurs at V3 or V12 the scale factor is doubled, while a large-scale factor will be decreased if no equality is signalled at V4, V5, V11 or V12, thus ensuring that the variations are displayed optimally within the top right-hand area of the Figure. As further transaction prices are entered into the system they appear at the right-hand-side of the display, shifting the' earlier dots 14 to the left, the leftmost being erased. Stock identities and pricing characters are included in the display. In modifications of the display, price ranges may be indicated by vertical bars, or the number of shares dealt with may be indicated in similar manner. Logic circuitry for all arrangements are described and illustrated schematically.
