Abstract
1289762 Cathode ray tube display systems BUNKER-RAMO CORP 21 Jan 1970 [14 Feb 1969] 2967/70 Heading H4T An arrangement for CRT display of alphanumeric information includes a visible " cursor " displaying the position at which a further character may be entered from a keyboard, the position of such cursor being marked in storage by a binary 1 in the otherwise unused intercharacter space between the video character representations. As described the character is represented by binary data controlling the unblanking of the beam in a 7 x 5 dot matrix x produced by a vertical stroke raster, and a sixth (inter-character) stroke (always blanked) carries a 1 in position 6 out of 8 (each eighth position representing vertical spot flyback) to mark the cursor for the next character. Two tracks 20, 21 on a magnetic storage drum carry the video information which is read at 23, 24 into FF1, FF2 for sampling by pulses B1, B2 to control the display unit. If a binary 1 is read in stroke 6 FF4 is set by AND gate 35, and remains set until stroke 6 of the next character. Provided counter 37 (which receives one pulse per drum revolution, i.e. one pulse per full display cycle) is enabling gate 36 then an unblank signal is passed to 10 for each spot position of the next character, but the counter causes a blinking unblanking which does not mask the visual display of any character stored there. Such character (e.g. N, A) may instruct the nature (numeric, alpha-) of information to be keyed in, which keyed character then replaces the instructing character. Such keying-in also advances the cursor marking to the next character position (Fig. 4, not shown). Specification 1,289,761, which relates to validation of characters entered at a cursor position in similar apparatus, is referred to.
