Abstract

1,147,218. Colour television tubes. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. 1 July, 1966 [2 July, 1965], No. 29767/66. Heading H1D. An electron beam convergence apparatus, for use with a cathode ray tube including a neck 54 through which passes a plurality of electron beams 55, comprises a generally cylindrical member 1 adapted to encircle the neck of the C.R.T. in engagement therewith, a generally flat body member on said cylindrical member 1 and extending generally transverse thereto, and a plurality of magnetic core members mounted on opposite surfaces of said body member and arranged about said cylindrical member 1 in spaced relationship to control the convergence of the electron beams. The member 1 may be integral with the body member and made of moulded plastics material, e.g. polypropylene. Horizontal convergence is controlled by two sliding assemblies mounted on one face of the body member. Each assembly comprises a U- shaped magnetic core 35 formed by components 47 and 49 carrying windings 57 connected to terminals 25 for dynamic control and a rotatable diametrally magnetized cylindrical magnet 51 for fine static control retained by tongues 37 and leaf springs 39 on a plastics member 5 slidable in tracks 17 on the body member to an extent determined by a slot 41 and fixing screw 43. Two similar assemblies including E- shaped magnetic cores (Fig. 3, not shown) for vertical convergence control are mounted on the other face of the body member and may be fixed or slidable.
