An air purifier for a kitchen comprises a hood 1 having an air inlet covered by a greasetrapping filter 7, an electrically driven fan 5, a recirculation outlet covered by a smell-removing activated charcoal filter 8 and a channel 10 leading to a discharge duct 4 to the outside, a damper 9 being provided to proportion air flow between the recirculation outlet and the discharge duct.
