A unit air conditioning apparatus for conditioning primary air and/or secondary air comprises a primary or fresh air inlet, a secondary air inlet and an outlet for conditioned air, which is forced through the apparatus by a fan or fans with air conditioning means in the path of the air. As shown in Fig. 1 a rectangular casing 11 for mounting under a window has in its upper side a secondary air inlet 12 and an outlet 13. Adjacent inlet 12, and normal to it, is a primary air inlet 14. Air is drawn down internal duct 16 by an axial flow fan 20 and is forced up the duct 17 which houses a heat-exchanger 21. The amount of fresh air can be varied by a manuallyoperable valve 22 in inlet 14. The heatexchanger may be an electric or hot-water type heater or a cooler. Air filtering, drying or humidifying means may in addition be provided. The latter may be a spray tapped from the hot water system and controlled by a valve actuated by a room humidistat. In a modification, Figs. 3 and 4 (not shown), the axial flow fan is replaced by two centrifugal fans driven by a common motor. In this modification, a filter 27 of nylon or synthetic resin plastic mesh is mounted immediately beneath the outlet 13. In a further modification, Figs. 5 and 6 (not shown), for mounting on a ceiling adjacent the window, the secondary air inlet and the outlet are formed in the underside of the casing and a centrifugal fan propels the air. To reduce noise and provide thermal insulation, the casing is lined with e.g. foam plastic material. The fan motor may be of the two-speed type. According to the Provisional Specification, the centrifugal fan in the " ceiling " embodiment may be replaced by an axial flow fan; and a secondary air inlet may be positioned in one of the upright sides of the casing instead of the underside.
