Abstract

Modifying metal bodies by applying high pressures via a pressure transmitting medium,which is a metal (alloy) with a low m.pt. and high plasticity. The method is used to expand a cylindrical hollow body (1) with open ends. The interior of the body is filled with a pressure transmitting medium (2), the ends of the body are closed by stiff walls (31,32) subjected to forces (51,52), and the pressure is introduced by means of a displacement element (4) subjected to a force (53).
