Abstract
The device and method of the invention implement a road traffic regulation system for traffic lights, the system being provided with an orientable image capture module, an on-board system provided with a hardware acceleration solution, a control system, a hardware watchdog and a secure wireless transmission module. Said system makes it possible to take control of junctions at traffic lights in a completely autonomous and smart manner that does not require any centralized management or equipment, in particular a junction controller, by adopting dynamic and adaptive regulation plans according to the traffic situation. Indeed, the orientable image capture module makes it possible to capture images of road traffic in a raw, ie uncompressed, format. The flow of images is routed to the on-board system through a high-speed link. The on-board system is a processing unit provided with a hardware acceleration solution. The on-board system processes video streams using artificial intelligence mechanisms in order to extract decision-making information relative to the regulation plan. The wireless transmission system allows said information to be shared with the rest of the smart traffic light modules in a secure manner. Thanks to a distributed algorithm, the smart traffic light modules calculate the best regulation plan relative to the traffic situation. Thanks to the control system, the various traffic light modules are controlled according to the calculated regulation plan. The hardware watchdog is used to ensure that the system is working properly and to take control, if necessary, after initializing it. In this way, a fully distributed and autonomous coordination between the different devices of the invention is achieved. Said coordination may be restricted to the junction, or may otherwise be comprehensive, integrating data from other junctions throughout the entire road network.
