Abstract

The invention relates to a folding chair (10) comprising a frame (12) having two lateral bar elements (14) between which a seat part (16) can be moved about a folding axis (18), between a folded-up idle position and a folded-down seat position. A rotational connection device (20) defining the folding axis (18) is provided between each bar element (14) and the seat part (16). A bracket (22) protrudes forwards from each bar element (14), with the associated rotational connection device (20). At least two folding chairs (10) can be fixed adjacently to a cross bar (58) from which leg elements (60) project downwards.

Description

The invention concerns a tip-up seat comprising a seat support frame having two lateral bar elements between which a seat portion is displaceable about a tip axis between an upwardly tipped rest position and a forwardly tipped seating position, wherein provided between the respective bar element and the seat portion is a rotary connecting arrangement which determines the tip axis and which has a first rotary member associated with the bar element and a second rotary member associated with the seat portion and a return spring arrangement between the first and second rotary members.
A tip-up seat of that kind is known from DE 20 2005 002 822 Ul. In that known tip-up seat the respective bar element comprises a flat hollow profile material which is of a widthwise dimension slightly larger than the corresponding transverse dimension of the associated rotary connecting arrangement. That involves a corresponding expenditure in terms of material.
The invention is based on the problem of providing a tip-up seat of the kind set forth in the opening part of this specification, in which the material expenditure is reduced without adversely affecting the comfort of the tip-up seat.
According to the invention that problem is solved by the features of claim 1, that is to say in that projecting forwardly from the respective bar element is a bracket with the associated rotary connecting arrangement, wherein the first rotary member is connected to the bracket and the second rotary member is connected to the seat portion by means of an angle element.
In the tip-up seat according to the invention the respective bar element preferably comprises a tubular profile material of relatively small :
, 5 2008709380 cross-sectional dimensions and only the bracket projecting forwardly from the respective bar element comprises a flat hollow profile member as has been mentioned hereinbefore in relation to DE 20 2005 002 822 U1 so that : the material expenditure is correspondingly reduced. :
The respective bracket is preferably closed at its front end by a closure cap. :
In the tip-up seat according to the invention the two lateral bar elements can be connected together at their lower end portion by means of a wall fixing hoop having fixing holes. A tip-up seat of such a configuration is adapted for mounting to the front face of a stepped terrace for example of a sports stadium or the like. For that purpose it is advantageous if the wall fixing hoop has a flat central portion having the fixing holes and two mutually remote end portions which each include an obtuse angle with the central portion and the end edges of which are fixed to the bar elements.
That fixing is preferably a welded connection. Accordingly it is preferable for the respective bracket to be welded to the associated bar element.
According to the invention it is also possible that the two bar elements are shortened and are connected together at their lower ends by means of a connecting element and the shortened bar elements are fixed with the connecting element to a transverse element from which support pillar elements project downwardly, wherein two tip-up seats are mounted in mutually. juxtaposed relationship to the transverse element. It is preferred in that respect if at least two support pillar elements project downwardly from the transverse element.
Such a configuration of the last-mentioned kind has the advantage that the transverse element with the at least two support pillar elements can be mounted in a first working operation for example on a rough terrace and the rough terrace can then be covered for example with a finishing coating, on which a tile or flagstone covering or the like is then provided. It is only after the terrace operations are concluded that the at least two tip- up seats are then mounted on the transverse element in mutually juxtaposed relationship, which can involve high-cost tip-up seats for example with upholstery with a leather covering or the like so that damage :
to the high-quality tip-up seats upon mounting thereof for example in a stadium is reliably avoided.
In a configuration of the last-mentioned kind with a transverse element, it is preferred if the connecting element connecting together the lower ends of the two bar elements of the respective tip-up seat is formed by a plate element having mounting holes so that the respective tip-up seat can be screwed fast on the transverse element.
In the tip-up seat according to the invention a fixing plate for a backrest can be provided at the upper end portion of each bar element.
Likewise an armrest device can be mounted to at least one bracket of a bar element of a tip-up seat according to the .invention. The at least one armrest device can have at least one L-shaped support element with an upholstered armrest or with a plastic armrest.
The tip-up seat according to the invention is preferably intended for forming the seating of a sports stadium. It will be appreciated that other areas of use such as lecture halls or auditoria or the like are also conceivable.
Further details, features and advantages will be apparent from the description hereinafter of embodiments by way of example of the tip-up seat according to the invention shown in the drawing in which:
Figure 1 shows a front view of a first embodiment of the tip-up seat,
Figure 2 shows a view of the tip-up seat of Figure 1 from above,
Figure 3 shows a front view of a second embodiment of the tip-up seat,
Figure 4 shows a view of the tip-up seat of Figure 3 from above,
Figure 5 shows a side view of the tip-up seat of Figures 1 and 2,
Figure 6 shows a side view of the tip-up seat of Figures 3 and 4,
Figure 7 shows a front view of a third embodiment of the tip-up seat, wherein three such tip-up seats are mounted in mutually juxtaposed relationship on a transverse element,
Figure 8 shows a plan view of the tip-up seat arrangement of Figure
Figure 9 shows a front view similar to Figure 7 of another configuration of two tip-up seats mounted on a transverse element,
Figure 10 shows a view of the arrangement of Figure 9 from above,
Figure 11 shows a side view of the tip-up seat arrangement of
Figures 7 and 8, and
Figure 12 shows a side view of the tip-up seat arrangement of
Figures 9 and 10.
Figures 1, 2 and 5 show a first embodiment of the tip-up seat 10 having a seat support frame 12 having two lateral bar elements 14, between which a seat portion 16 is displaceable about a tip axis 18 (see
Figure 5) between a rest position (not shown) and a forwardly tipped seating position. A rotary connecting arrangement 20 determining the tip axis 18 is provided between the respective bar elements 14 and the seat portion 16. The respective rotary connecting arrangement 20 has a first rotary member associated with the bar element 14 and a second rotary member associated with the seat portion 16 and, between the first and second rotary members, a return spring arrangement. A rotary connecting arrangement of that kind is described in detail in above-quoted DE 20 2005 002 822 Ul so that there is no need to enter into a more detailed : description thereof here.
As can also be clearly seen from Figure 5 projecting forwardly from the respective bar element 14 is a bracket 22 with the associated rotary connecting arrangement 20, wherein the first rotary member is connected to the bracket 22 and the second rotary member 14 is connected to the seat portion 16 by means of an angle element 24. The respective angle element 24 can also be seen from Figures 1 and 2.
The two bar elements 14 of the seat support frame 12 are provided at their upper end portions 26 with a respective fixing plate 28. The fixing plates 28 serve for fixing a backrest 30 in position.
A wall fixing crossbar hoop 34 is fixed to the lower end portions 32 of the bar elements 14. Like the fixing of the respective bracket 22 and the respective fixing plate 28, that fixing is a welded connection, preferably a laser weld.
The wall fixing hoop 34 connecting the two bar elements 14 together has a flat central portion 36 with fixing holes 38 and two mutually remote end portions 40 which each include an obtuse angle with the flat central portion 36 (see Figure 2) and the end edges of which are fixed, that is to 5 say fixedly welded, in particular laser-welded, to the lower end portions 32 of the bar elements 14.
The fixing holes 38 serve for screwing the tip-up seat 10 fixedly to the front face of a stepped terrace for example of a sports stadium.
While Figures 1, 2 and 5 show a tip-up seat 10 without armrests,
Figures 3, 4 and 6 show a tip-up seat 10 which differs from the tip-up seat 10 of Figures 1, 2 and 5 only in that it has armrest devices 42. The respective armrest device 42 has an L-shaped support element 44 with a fixing portion 46 and a support portion 48. The fixing portion 46 of the respective L-shaped support element 44 is fixed to the associated bracket 22. An armrest 50 is fixed at the upper end of the respective support portion 48. That armrest 50 can be in the form of an upholstered armrest ~ or a plastic armrest. -
Identical details are denoted in Figures 1 to 6 by the same respective references so that there is no need for all details to be described more fully in relation to those Figures.
Figures 7, 8 and 11 show tip-up seats 10 in which the two bar elements 14 are each of shortened size and are connected together at their lower end by means of a connecting element 52. The respective connecting element 52 is formed by a plate element 54 having fixing holes 56.
The respective tip-up seat 10 is fixed by means of the connecting element 52 to a transverse element 58 from which support pillar elements 60 project downwardly. The respective tip-up seat 10 is screwed fixedly to the transverse element 58. The respective screw connections are identified by reference 62.
While Figures 7, 8 and 11 show a combination of three tip-up seats 10 on a transverse element 58, wherein the tip-up seat 10 - similarly to that shown in Figures 1, 2 and 5 — does not have any armrests, Figures 9, 10 and 12 show a configuration in which two tip-up seats 10 are mounted in mutually juxtaposed relationship on a transverse element 58 and which each have armrests 50, similarly to the tip-up seat 10 in Figures 3, 4 and 6.
Identical features are also each identified in Figures 7 to 12 by the same references as in Figures 1 to 6 so that there is no need for all features to be described in detail in relation to the Figures in question.
