Description

® A TEMPERATURE CONTROLLER, ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR,
AND ELECTRIC WATER HEATER
Technical field
The present invention relates to temperature control, more particularly, a temperature controller, an electrical connector and an electric water heater.
Technical background
The temperature controller is mainly used for temperature control.
When an electric water heater is working and the water in the container is boiled away, if it is not controlled, the container will be damaged, and more seriously, a fire may occur. The structure of the existing temperature controller for the water heating control includes a main body, a movable contact sheet, an electrical connection part, a temperature sensing bimetallic strip and a push rod. The movable contact sheet elastically contacts with the electrical connection parts, they are connected in series in the electric power circuit. The push rod is located between the temperature sensing bimetallic strip and the movable contact sheet. When it is used, the temperature sensing bimetallic strip is adhered on the heating face such as wall surface of the container. When the water in the container is boiled away, the temperature on the wall surface of the container will rise gradually and cause action of the temperature sensing
® bimetallic strip so as to push the push rod moving. Because the push rod is clamped between the temperature sensing bimetallic strip and the movable contact sheet and the force caused by the sticking up of the heated temperature sensing bimetallic strip 1s bigger than the spring force of the movable contact sheet, the push rod pushes up the movable contact sheet to be separated from the electrical connection part so that the electric power circuit is cut off. Thereby, the electric heater stop heating due to the power off. Consequently, the objective of temperature control can be achieved. The disadvantage is that, when the electric water heater is power-off, the wall surface temperature of the container decreases which results in the temperature sensing bimetallic strip reset, and also, the push rod resets under the spring force of the movable contact sheet.
Once more, the movable contact sheet contacts with the electrical connection part so that the power circuit is connected to re-electrify and re-heat the electric heater. Endlessly, it makes the electric heater on and off repeatedly without water, this not only reduces the contact life of contacting points between the movable contact sheet and the electrical connection piece and also it damages the contacting points after long time, once the contacting points melt and combine together would case a fire risk. To install such a temperature controller in the electric product would cause unsafety.
The electrical connector mainly realizes electrical connection of the
® electric product, for the electric products dividing into two parts for the convenience of using the electric product by the user, quality of the electrical connector directly influences the quality of the electric product.
The structure of the existing electrical connector includes: a main body; a electrode connected with the power source provided in the said main body; and an electrical connection part connected with the electric components set in the electric product. The said electrode is contacted with the said electrical connection part in the main body. The electrical connector used in the electric water heater has the temperature control structure, which not only realizes power connection and also prevents the electric heater from burning out due to the overheating, and the structure is compact and saves material. The structure includes a main body, a movable contact sheet, an electrical connection part, an electrode, a temperature sensing bimetallic strip and a push rod. The difference from the temperature controller is that the electrode and the electrical connection part are connected inside the main body. The electrode is mainly used for connection with the electrode of another electrical connector matching with it. It is installed in the electric product and the problem thereof is the same with that appearing in the electric water heater as abovementioned.
The electric water heater is mainly used for heating the liquid. The structure includes a container for filling water, a base for supporting the
® container, an electric heater installed under the container and an electrical connector set between the container and the base. The electrical connector installed under the container is the same with the abovementioned electrical connector and has the same disadvantageous.

When another electrical connector is inserted in the electrical connector, another electrical connector will trigger the slider to push the clip to spring up during inserting to separate the clip and the movable contact sheet to make the movable contact sheet reset and contact with the electrical connector.
The invention adds a slider, a clip and an elastically pressing part in the electrical connector main body of the existing electric water heater structure. When the water is heated dry, the surface temperature of the container rises and the temperature sensing bimetallic strip is heated and acts to push heating-dry control push rod to drive the movable contact sheet separate from the electrical connection part, meanwhile the movable contact sheet is clamped by the clip. Even though the temperature sensing bimetallic strip resets due to temperature decreases, the movable contact sheet will not reset itself. When the container is put on the base again or the electrical connector of the base is inserted into the electrical connector,
od the base or the electrical connector of the base will trigger the slider to push the clip to spring up during the insertion of the slider to make the clip separate from the movable contact sheet and the movable contact sheet reset. In this way if the water in the container is boiled away and the user does not take up the container, no matter how lone it is, the moving contactor and the electrical connector will remain in the separate condition to enable the electric heater not to be connected and heated.

Detailed description of preferred embodiments
First of all, a temperature controller according to the preferred embodiment of the invention shown in Fig.1-7 will be described in detail.
The said temperature controller includes a main body 1, a movable contact sheet 4, an electrical connection part 7, a temperature sensing bimetallic strip 10, a heating-dry control push rod 11, a slider 15, a clip 20 and an elastically pressing part 21.
The said slider 15 may slide in the main body 1. The movable contact sheet 4 elastically contacts with the electrical connection part 7 under normal condition. One end of the elastically pressing part 21 is fixed in the main body 1 and the other end is elastically pressed on the slider 15.
The elastic force of elastically pressing part 21 is bigger than that of the g movable contact sheet 4. When the elastically pressing part 21 is elastically pressed on the slider 15, the slider 15 can jack up the movable contact sheet 4 and disconnect it from the electrical connection part 7.
The said clip 20 has a clipping part 24 for clamping the movable contact sheet 4. When the edge of the movable contact sheet 4 is pushed onto the clipping part 24 of the clip 20 by the heating-dry control push rod 11, it can be clamped by the clipping part 24. Because the movable contact sheet 4 moves with the temperature sensing bimetallic strip 10 and the heating-dry control push rod 11, a jack part 23 is provided on the clip 20 which can spring up while contacts with the slider 15 and makes the clipping part 24 separate from the movable contact sheet 4.
A metal cover 12 set on the said main body 1 has a spring piece 19 with its one end fixed on the metal cover 12 by fusing fastener 17 and the other end fixed on the metal cover 12 through fastener 18. The fusing point temperature of fusing fastener 17 is higher than temperature of heating action of the temperature sensing bimetal strip. A fusing control push rod 16 is provided between the spring piece 19 and the movable contact sheet 6. The movable contact sheet 6 elastically contacts with the electrical connection part 7 under normal condition. When the temperature of the metal cover 12 rises to the fusing temperature of the fusing fastener 17, the fusing fastener 17 is melt, then the spring piece 19 springs downwards to push fusing control push rod 16 to jack the
® movable contact sheet 6 up, to make it separate from the electrical connection part 7. By this way, it can be guaranteed that, in case of the heating-dry protection structure controlled by the temperature sensing bimetallic strip 10 fails to react, the power circuit between the movable contact sheet 6 and the electrical connection part 7 can be cut off, therefore, the effect of double protections can be achieved. When using it, to simply connect the movable contact sheets 4, 6 and electrical connection part 7 in serial in the power circuit, the off and on state of the power can be controlled by the temperature.
Secondly, we will describe an electrical connector. Figs. 8-12 show the electrical connector. Also, please refer to Fig 1-7. The electrical connector according to the embodiment of the present invention includes: a main body 1 made of plastics, two movable contact sheets 4 made of copper, two electrical connection parts 7 made of copper, two contact electrodes 2 and 3 made of copper, a temperature sensing bimetallic strip 10, a heating-dry control push rod 11, a ground electrode 13, a slider 15 made of plastics, a clip 20 shaped through punching a piece of metal and elastically pressing part 21 formed by curving a metal bar.
The said slider 15 may slide in the main body 1. The movable contact sheet 4 elastically contacts with the electrical connection part 7 under normal condition. One end of the elastically pressing part 21 is fixed in the main body 1 and the other end is elastically pressed on the slider 15.
¢ The elastic force of elastically pressing part 21 is bigger than that of the movable contact sheet 4. When the elastically pressing part 21 is elastically pressed on the slider 15, the slider 15 can jack up the movable contact sheet 4 and disconnect it from the electrical connection part 7.
The said clip 20 has a clipping part 24 for clamping the movable contact sheet 4. When the movable contact sheet 4 moves to the clipping part 24 of the clip 20, it can be clamped by the clipping part 24. A jack part 23 is provided on the clip 20 which can spring up while contacts with the slider and makes the clipping part 24 separate from the movable contact sheet 4. The said contact electrodes 2 and 3 are concentrically annular structure fixed on the main body 1 and connected with the movable contact sheet 4. A top part 27 of the slider 15 is positioned in the annular channel adjacent to the contact electrodes 2 and 3. When the said electrical connector according to the present invention is interposed in another matching electrical connector, the top part 27 of the slider 15 is touched by the other electrical connector to make the slider 15 move upwards, then the movable contact sheet 4 is connected with the electrical connection part 7, the power circuit is under connection state. When the temperature sensing bimetallic strip 10 is warped due to heating, the movable contact sheet 4 is jacked up by the heating-dry control push rod 11 and separate from the electrical connection part 7, the power circuit is in the disconnected state. And at the same time, the movable contact sheet
¢ 4 is clamped by the clipping part 24 of the clip 20. Even when the temperature sensing bimetallic strip 10 resets due to temperature decrease, the movable contact sheet 4 can not contact with the electrical connection part 7 until the two electrical connector are separated manually. Thus, the slider 15 moves downwards as a result of losing the action force applied on the top part 27 by another electrical connector, meanwhile the top part 27 pushes the jack part 23 of the clip 20 to make the clip 20 jack up toward one side till the clipping part 24 is separated from the movable contact sheet 4 so that the movable contact sheet 4 contacts with the electrical connection part 7 again.
Furthermore, before the said electrical connector 1s connected with the electrical connector matching one another, the slider 15 can jack the movable contact sheet 4 up so as to make the movable contact sheet 4 separate from the electrical connection part 7, when the electrodes are contacted with each other, a force is applied on the slider 15 to make it slide so that the movable contact sheet 4 springs back to contact with the electrical connection part 7. Consequently, the power circuit can be connected. Before the electrodes of the electrical connection part 7 are separated, the slider 15 slides automatically to jack up the movable contact sheet 4 so as to make the movable contact sheet 4 separate from the electrical connection part 7. Accordingly, the electrodes can be separated. Moreover, a sliver contact points provided on the contact
¢ positions of the movable contact sheet 4 and the electrical connection part 7 have a good anti-oxidation performance which can avoid arc caused by the contact of the electrodes and prolong the life greatly and get a good electrical performance.
When the temperature of the metal cover 12 rises to the fusing temperature of the fusing fastener 17, the fusing fastener 17 is melt, then the spring piece 19 springs downwards to push fusing control push rod 16 to jack the movable contact sheet 6 up, to make it separate from the electrical connection part 7. By this way, it can be guaranteed that, in case of the heating-dry protection structure controlled by the temperature sensing bimetallic strip 10 fails to react, the power circuit between the movable contact sheet 6 and the electrical connection part 7 can be cut off , therefore, the effect of double protections can be achieved. When using it, to simply connect the movable contact sheets 4, 6 and the electrical
® connection part 7 in serial in the power circuit, the off and on state of the power can be controlled by the temperature.
Finally, We will present an electric water heater in which the said electrical connector of the present invention is installed. When the water in the electric water heater is dried out with heating, the temperature sensing bimetallic strip 10 will act by heating so as to disconnect the power supply and it can not be reset automatically until it is made manually. Therefore, the electric water heater of the present invention can solve the problem of constant intermittence phenomena. In addition,
Once the heating-dry protection mechanism controlled by the temperature sensing bimetallic strip 10 fails, the fusing control push rod 16 will jack up the movable contact sheet 6 to separate it from the electrical connection part 7 so as to effectively protect the electric water heater, therefore, the damage to the electric heater will be avoid and improve the safety.
Fig.13-14 show the electric water heater. Please also refer to the
Fig.1-12. The said electric water heater of the invention includes: a container 28, a base 29, an electric heater 30, an upper electrical connector 31, a lower electrical connector 32. The said upper electrical connector 31 is the abovementioned electrical connector of the invention, so the detailed structure and the working principle will not be described here.
¢ A top part 27 can be set on the said slider 15 of the upper electrical connecter 31 which can be placed upside-down on the base 29.
A top part 27 can be set on the said slider 15 of the upper electrical connector 31 which can be placed upside-down on the lower electrical connector 32 located on the bottom of the base 29.
The said contact electrodes 2 and 3 are annular structure fixed in the annular channel 33 on the main body 1. The top part 27 of the slider 15 is positioned in the annular channel 33 adjacent to the contact electrodes 2 and 3. A protruding ring 34 is provided on the lower electric connector 32 which can be positioned into the annular channel 33.
The top part 27 of the slider 15 is provided in the annular channel 33 of the main body 1 where the lower electrical connector 32 can be placed.
When the container 28 is placed on the base 29, the top part 27 is forced by upward force caused by either the base 29, the lower electrical connector 32 or the protruding ring 34, then the movable contact sheet 4 contacts with the electrical connection part 7, and at this time the electric heater 30 is power-on and heating. When the water in the container boiled away, the temperature sensing bimetallic strip 10 is heated and acts to disconnect the power supply. That is, the electric heater 30 is power-off and stopped to heat until the container 28 is taken up so that the movable contact sheet 4 is reset to contact with the electrical connection part 7 again. Then the electric water heater with refilled water can be used again.
®
The present invention improves the electrical safety and the way to reset under the condition of heating without water, and it is easy to use. Since the top part 27 is placed in the channel 33, the finger can not touch both the contact electrodes 2,3 and the top part 27. Even though the contact electrodes are touched by the finger, as long as the top part 27 is not pushed down, the electrodes 2 and 3 would not be power-on. Therefore, the present invention has several advantages, such as long working life and good safety performance. Moreover, the contact electrode is not liable to be oxidized.
