Pronalazak se odnosi na kamenu vunu, dobijenu od rastopa kamena, koja se sastoji od 70 do 90 mas.% vlakana za kamenu vunu prečnika manjeg od 5 um, od 0 do 5 mas.% vlakana za kamenu vunu prečnika iznad 5 um i od 10 do 25 mas.% kuglica prečnika većeg od 63 um, pri čemu je prosečan prečnik vlakana od 1 do 4 um, odnos prosečne dužine prema prosečnom prečniku vlakana iznosi od 1000 do 3000, gustina je od 15 do 100 kg/m3, a lambda-vrednost termičke provodljivosti je od 30 do 40 mW/mВ°K na 10В°C.
