Definitions
- This disclosure relates to reflectors used in aperture antennas, satellites, conductive patches, and reflector manufacturing devices.
- the aperture antenna comprises a power supply unit that transmits and receives radio waves, and a reflector that reflects the radio waves.
- the reflector is composed of a reflective member that reflects radio waves and a structure that supports the reflective member in order to withstand the acceleration applied during rocket launch to put the satellite into satellite orbit.
- Patent Document 1 an in-orbit manufacturing method has been proposed in which a modeling device and antenna materials are mounted on the satellite body and a reflector is manufactured in space.
- ultraviolet-curing resin is stored in a tank inside the satellite body, and the reflector is manufactured in satellite orbit by extruding the ultraviolet-curing resin with an injector while irradiating it with ultraviolet light.
- An advantage of the in-orbit manufacturing method is that there is no need to design and manufacture the rear structure taking into account the environment at the time of rocket launch, and there is also no need for ground testing to verify environmental resistance.
- an in-orbit deployment method has been proposed in which the reflector is folded up compactly so that it can fit inside a rocket, and then deployed to the desired shape after the satellite is launched into orbit.
- the reflecting member is supported by a dorsal structure made up of wires or trusses, and the trusses are connected by hinges to enable the reflector to rotate when deployed.
- the ultraviolet-curing resin used in the on-orbit manufacturing method disclosed in Patent Document 1 is not conductive, so simply molding the object cannot impart radio wave reflecting properties. Furthermore, with the on-orbit deployment method disclosed in Patent Document 2, rattle in the hinges makes the shape of the mirror unstable after deployment, which can easily reduce its ability to reflect radio waves. For this reason, there is a demand for a reflector that is easy to manufacture and has high radio wave reflecting properties.
- the present disclosure has been made in light of the above, and aims to provide a reflector that is easy to manufacture and has high radio wave reflecting performance.
- the reflector disclosed herein comprises a thermoplastic member formed in a spiral shape and a central structural member disposed in the center of the spiral of the thermoplastic member and to which the thermoplastic member is fixed.
- the reflector also comprises conductive patches disposed in gaps in the spiral of the thermoplastic member and in gaps between the central structural member and the thermoplastic member, and fixed to the thermoplastic member or to the central structural member and the thermoplastic member.
- This disclosure has the effect of providing a reflector that is easy to manufacture and has high radio wave reflecting performance.
