- the width W130 of the slit 130 can be determined arbitrarily.
- the width W130 of the slit 130 may be constant or may not be constant. By gradually reducing the width W130 from the tip to the base end, the rigidity of the tube 13 can be gradually changed.
- the coil 12 and the tube 13 are joined by a joint 15 and a tip joint 16.
- the tip joint 16 joins a portion of the outer surface 12o of the coil 12 and a portion of the tip 13a of the tube 13.
- the tip joint 16 is the portion where the metal coil 12 and the metal tube 13 are welded together.
- the tip joint 16 can be formed, for example, by laser welding. In the illustrated example, one tip joint 16 is formed. Multiple tip joints 16 may be formed at different circumferential positions on the tube 13.
- Figure 6 is a diagram showing a cross section taken along line B1-B1 in Figure 5.
- the joint 15 is the portion where a portion of the outer surface 12o at the base end of the coil 12 and a portion of the outer edge of the slit 130 are joined together.
- the joint 15 is the portion where the metal coil 12 and the metal tube 13 are welded together.
- the joint 15 can be formed, for example, by laser welding.
- the joint 15 has an integrated structure where a portion of the outer surface of the coil 12 and a portion of the tube 13 are fused together. In other words, a metal bond mass is formed at the joint 15 by welding a portion of the outer surface of the coil 12 and a portion of the tube 13 together.
- the surface of the joint 15 is recessed with respect to the outer surface of the tube 13.
- Figure 6 shows joint 152 as an example of a joint 15.
- the other joints 151 and 153 have an integrated structure in which a portion of the outer surface of the coil 12 and a portion of the tube 13 are fused together.
- tip joint 16 also has an integrated structure in which a portion of the outer surface of the coil 12 and a portion of the tube 13 are fused together.
- the joint 15 in this embodiment has a circular or elliptical shape with a diameter larger than the width W130 of the slit 130.
- the joint 15 is formed by welding two thick-walled portions of the tube 13 facing each other in the width direction of the slit 130 to the outer surface 12o of the coil 12 sandwiched between the two thick-walled portions.
- the shape of the joint 15 is not limited to a circular or elliptical shape and can be changed as desired.
- the joint 15 has three joints 151, 152, and 153. Therefore, the joint area of the joint 15 is the sum of the joint area of joint 151 + the joint area of joint 152 + the joint area of joint 153.
- the joints 151, 152, and 153 are all formed along the slit 130 and are spaced apart from each other.
- the joint 151 is located on the slit 130, moving from the slit tip 131 toward the base end.
- Joint 151 may be formed at the position of slit tip 131.
- Joint 153 is provided at a position on slit 130 moving forward from slit base 132 toward the tip.
- Joint 153 may be formed at slit base 132.
- the number of joints 151, 152, 153 that joint 15 has is not limited to three and may be any number. If the number of joints 151 to 15n that joint 15 has is 10 or less, gradual change in stiffness of tube 13 can be achieved. n is any natural number.
- Joints 151 and 153, and joint 152 are formed at different positions circumferentially around tube 13. Specifically, joints 151 and 153 are formed in the +Z-axis direction circumferentially around tube 13. Like tip joint 16, joint 152 is formed in the -Z-axis direction circumferentially around tube 13. Joint 15 and tip joint 16 have higher rigidity than non-welded portions. In the illustrated example, joints 15 and tip joint 16, which have higher rigidity than non-welded portions, are formed facing each other in the ⁇ Z-axis direction. This prevents the catheter 1 from bending in the ⁇ Z-axis direction and makes it easier to bend the catheter 1 in the ⁇ Y-axis direction. In other words, the bending direction of catheter 1 can be controlled.
- Joints 151, 152, and 153 may be located at any position on the outer periphery of tube 13, and may be located at different positions circumferentially around tube 13. This makes it easier to bend the catheter 1 in any direction.
- An arbitrary position on the outer circumference of the tube 13 is, for example, a position in the +Y axis direction or a position in the -Y axis direction of the tube 13.
- the joint 15 joins at least a portion of the outer surface 12o at the base end of the coil 12 to at least a portion of the outer edge of the slit 130 in the tube 13. Therefore, compared to when a joint is provided only on the outer edge of the tube's tip, as exemplified by the tip joint 16 in Figure 5, or when a joint is provided in a through-hole formed in the tube, the joint area provided by the joint 15 is larger, improving the bond strength between the coil 12 and the tube 13.
- the slit 130 provided in the tip of the tube 13 enables gradual changes in the rigidity of the catheter 1 compared to when the slit 130 is not provided. As a result, the catheter 1 of the first embodiment can reduce the occurrence of breakage or kinking of the catheter 1 during use, and improves pushability and torque transmission.
- multiple joints 15 are formed along the slit 130, as shown by the example of joints 151, 152, and 153 in Figure 5. Therefore, compared to providing one joint with a large joint area along the slit 130, the increase in rigidity at the joint 15 is suppressed, and the joint strength between the coil 12 and the tube 13 is improved.
- the joint 15 is formed on the outer edge of the slit 130 in the overlapping portion 300 where the coil 12 and the tube 13 are arranged one on top of the other, further improving the bonding strength between the coil 12 and the tube 13.
- the slit 130 has a spiral shape. Therefore, the areas where increased rigidity is achieved by providing the joint 15 are distributed circumferentially around the tube.

- the joint 15C is formed on the outer edge of the slit 130C in the insertion section 400, further improving the bond strength between the coil 12C and the tube 13C. Furthermore, because the slit 130C has a spiral shape, the increased rigidity achieved by providing the joint 15C can be distributed circumferentially around the tube 13C.
- Fig. 11 is an enlarged view of the vicinity of the joint between the coil 12 and the tube 13 in the fifth embodiment.
- a portion of the slit 130 located on the back side of the tube 13 and a portion of the joint 15D are indicated by dashed lines.
- the joint 15D is provided instead of the joint 15 in the first embodiment, and further the tip joint 16 is not provided.
- the joint 15D joins a portion of the outer surface 12o at the base end of the coil 12 with a portion of the outer edge of the slit 130.

- the outer diameter ⁇ 12E is equal to the outer diameter ⁇ 13 of the tube 13C.
- the base end of the coil 12E has an outer diameter ⁇ 12EA.
- the base end of the coil 12E is the portion labeled 300.
- the outer diameter ⁇ 12EA is smaller than the outer diameter ⁇ 12E, which is also smaller than the outer diameter ⁇ 13.
- Such a coil 12E can be produced by removing the outer surface 12o at the base end of the coil 12E by physical polishing or chemical polishing. This allows the base end of the coil 12E to be inserted inside the tube 13, makes the outer diameter uniform near the joint between the coil 12E and the tube 13, and suppresses an increase in rigidity near the joint.
- the catheter 1E of the sixth embodiment described above can also achieve the same effects as the first embodiment described above. With the catheter 1E of the sixth embodiment, the outer diameter near the joint between the coil 12E and the tube 13 can be maintained constant.

- the tip of the coil 12F is located at the same position as the tip of the first portion 100.
- the base end of the coil 12F is located closer to the base end of the second portion 200F and inside the connector 19. In other words, the tip of the coil 12F is located at the same position as the tip of the resin tube 11, and the base end of the coil 12F is located at the same position as the base end of the resin tube 11.
- the coil 12F in the catheter 1F can be modified in various ways, and the coil 12F may be arranged over the entire length of the resin tube 11, covering the entire outer surface 11o of the resin tube 11. - the base end of the coil 12 and the tip end of the tube 13G are arranged to overlap in the overlapping portion 300.
- a slit 130G is formed in the tip end of the tube 13G.
- the slit 130G has multiple slits 1301 to 1308.
- One slit 1301 extends in the longitudinal direction of the tube 13G and has a shape that is gently curved in the circumferential direction of the tube 13G. This is also true for the other slits 1302 to 1308.
- the slits 1301 to 1308 as a whole form a spiral shape that extends spirally along the longitudinal direction of the tube 13G.
- the slit 1302 is located at a distance from the adjacent slit 1301.

- the slit 130G may include multiple slits 1301-1308 formed intermittently in the tube 13G.
- the slits 1301-1308 do not have to form a spiral shape as a whole.
- the slits 1301-1308 may be arranged randomly on the outer surface of the tube 13G.
- the catheter 1G of the eighth embodiment as described above can also achieve the same effects as the first embodiment described above. In the catheter 1G of the eighth embodiment, the length of each slit can be shortened, making it easy to form the slits 130G.

- the second section 1202 is located closer to the base end than the first section 1201.
- the second section 1202 is located at a position corresponding to the overlapping portion 300.
- the second section 1202 and the overlapping portion 300 coincide with each other.
- the second section 1202 and the overlapping portion 300 do not have to coincide with each other.
- the tip 1202a of the second section 1202 may be located further distal than the tip of the overlapping portion 300.
- the tip of the overlapping portion 300 refers to the tip end surface 13a of the tube 13H.

- the coil 12H may not include the first wires 123 and may be formed only from the second wires 122 distal to the base end shown in FIG. 16.
- the coil 12H is a multi-strand coil formed by winding the first wire 123 and the second wire 122 in multiple strands.
- the coil 12H can be formed, for example, by winding ten second wires 122 and two first wires 123 in multiple strands.
- the cross-sectional area of the first wire 123 in the first section 1201 is larger than the cross-sectional area of the second wire 122 in the first section 1201.
- the cross-sectional shape of the first wire 123 in the first section 1201 is circular.
- the cross-sectional shape of the second wire 122 in the first section 1201 is circular.

In the illustrated example, the cross-sectional shape of the first wires 123 in the second section 1202 is approximately semicircular. As shown in the H3-H3 and H1-H1 cross-sectional views in FIG. 16, the cross-sectional area of the first wires 123 in the second section 1202 is smaller than the cross-sectional area of the first wires 123 in the first section 1201. In other words, as shown in FIG. 16, the outer circumferential position P2 of the first wires 123 in the second section 1202 is located radially inward of the outer circumferential position P1 of the first wires 123 in the first section 1201.

- the outer surface 12o of the coil 12H does not have the protrusion 124.
- the irregularities on the outer surface 12o of the coil 12H are smaller than those in the first section 1201. In other words, the outer surface 12o of the coil 12H in the second section 1202 is closer to a flat surface.
- An operator can form the coil 12H by removing a portion of the outer surface of the first wire 123 from a multi-strand coil formed using the first wire 123 and the second wire 122.
- the outer diameter ⁇ 1202 of the coil 12H in the second section 1202 is smaller than the outer diameter ⁇ 1201 of the coil 12H in the first section 1201. This is because the second section 1202 does not have a protrusion 124.
- a slit 130H is formed in the tip end of the tube 13H.
- the slit 130H has a spiral shape that extends spirally along the longitudinal direction of the tube 13H.
- the slit tip 131H is connected to the tip end surface 13a of the tube 13H.

- the width W130H of the slit 130H is the same as the outer diameter of the first wire 123.
- the width W130H of the slit 130H may be different from the outer diameter of the first wire 123.
- the spiral pitch P130H of the slit 130H is the same as the pitch P123 of the first wire 123.

- the catheter 1H of the ninth embodiment described above can also achieve the same effects as the first embodiment described above.
- the outer diameter ⁇ 1202 of the coil 12H in the second section 1202 is smaller than the outer diameter ⁇ 1201 of the coil 12H in the first section 1201. Therefore, even when using a coil 12H with a protrusion 124, the operator can smoothly place at least a portion of the second section 1202 inside the tube 13H to fabricate the catheter 1H shown in FIG. 15 . Furthermore, the cross-sectional area of the first wire 123 in the second section 1202 is smaller than the cross-sectional area of the first wire 123 in the first section 1201.
- the operator can easily fabricate a coil 12H having different outer diameters ⁇ 1201, ⁇ 1202 by removing a portion of the outer surface of the first wire 123 from a multi-strand coil formed using the first wire 123 and the second wire 122. Furthermore, the cross-sectional area of the first wire 123 is larger than the cross-sectional area of the second wire 122. Therefore, the protrusions 124 that arise due to the difference in cross-sectional area between the first wires 123 and the second wires 122 improve the torque transmission performance of the coil 12H.
