- cellulosic polymers elastomers, rubber, and combinations thereof.
- the settlement substrate 120 is provided below the algae cultivation means 110 at a distance.
- the settlement substrate 120 is also arranged, for example, suspended via wires 132 from the plurality of beam-like members 174 extending horizontally from the support columns 172 of the fixed offshore wind power generation device 170.
- the settlement substrate 120 may be arranged in direct contact with the seabed 150.
- the thickness of the adhesion substrate 120 is not particularly limited, but is preferably 30 cm to 100 cm, and more preferably 50 cm to 70 cm. If the thickness of the adhesion substrate 120 is less than 30 cm, it may not have sufficient strength and may be easily washed away by water currents such as tidal currents. If the thickness of the adhesion substrate 120 exceeds 100 cm, it will be heavy overall, which may increase the difficulty of placing it on the seabed 150 and/or removing and recovering it from the seabed 142.
- the adhesion substrate 120 may be, for example, any of the above-mentioned fabrics, sheets, and/or a combination of multiple plates cut to an appropriate size.

- Algae 106 are fixed to the algae cultivation means 210 in the same manner as described above, and the zoospores (reproductive cells) and fertilized eggs released from the algae 106 can be used to reach the settlement substrate 220 below. After that, algae 106' are grown "conjugated" with the algae 106 through the reproductive cells or fertilized eggs 160 that have reached the settlement substrate 220, resulting in the cultivation of algae 106, 106' on both the algae cultivation means 210 and the settlement substrate 220 located below.

- Figure 3 an example is described in which the algae cultivation means 310 and the adhesion substrate 320 are placed between two fixed offshore wind power generation devices 370, 370' as marine structures, but the present invention is not limited to this form.
- the algae cultivation system 400 of the present invention can be placed between more marine structures (fixed offshore wind power generation devices) 470.
- the algae cultivation means 410 and the adhesion substrate 420 will occupy a larger area, and the types and quantities of algae 106, 106' that can be cultivated in a coordinated manner can also be expanded.

- the covering material 575 allows the algae cultivation means 410 in the algae cultivation system 500 of the present invention to be indirectly fixed to the fixed offshore wind turbine 570 without direct contact between them, and is made of, for example, any water-resistant material.
- the thickness of the covering material 575 is not particularly limited and can be set as appropriate by a person skilled in the art.
- fixed offshore wind power generation devices 670a and 670b as shown in Figures 6(a) and 6(b) may be used instead of the fixed offshore wind power generation device 570 shown in Figure 5.
- the fixed offshore wind power generation device 670a shown in Figure 6(a) is equipped with a fixed rod 674a attached at a distance from a support 672a.
- a fixed rod 674a By attaching the algae cultivation means 410 in the aquaculture system of the present invention to this fixed rod 674a, direct contact between the algae cultivation means 410 and the fixed offshore wind power generation device 670a can be avoided.
- the fixed offshore wind turbine 670b shown in Figure 6(b) is equipped with a fixing rod 674b that is arranged around the support column 672b, spaced from the support column 672b, with part of it buried.

- the beam members 774 and the algae cultivation means 710 are preferably located above the observation window 776 provided in the cylindrical tower portion 772 so as not to obstruct the view through the observation window 776.
- a settlement substrate 720 is arranged around the cylindrical tower section 772 of the underwater observation tower 770.
- This settlement substrate 720 is also preferably arranged below the observation window 776 provided in the cylindrical tower section 772 so as not to obstruct the view through said observation window 776.
- algae 106' which grow through zoospores (reproductive cells) or fertilized eggs 160 released from the algae 106 fixed to the algae cultivation means 710, and the algae 106, 106' can be cultivated conjugatively.
- the algae cultivation system 700 shown in Figure 7 has this configuration, which creates an environment between the algae 106 fixed to the algae cultivation means 710 and the algae 106' grown on the attachment substrate 720 that is conducive to attracting many marine organisms such as fish.
- the algae cultivation system 700 of the present invention is able to cultivate the desired algae 106, 106', and also improves the value of the underwater observation tower 770 as a tourist facility.
- underwater structures other than those mentioned above may also be aquaculture rafts (fish pens), offshore bridges, breakwaters, offshore breakwaters, breakwaters, offshore buoys (including navigational markers), artificial islands, and offshore airport islands.
- underwater structures may be constructed near the coast or offshore (for example, about 2 km from the coast).
- algae are first immobilized in seawater on the algae cultivation means in the algae cultivation system.
- the algae immobilized in the algae cultivation means are preferably juveniles that have been grown in advance using methods known to those skilled in the art.
- algae such as macroalgae secrete bromophenols such as 2,4-dibromophenol and 2,4,6-tribromophenol from the outside of the algae.
- bromophenols function as chemical defense substances (repellents) against marine herbivorous animals such as fish and shellfish, thereby preventing the above-mentioned seaweed erosion.
- the algae are then conjugated and cultivated on the substrate in the algae cultivation system through the reproductive cells or fertilized eggs released by the algae.
- the release of reproductive cells or fertilized eggs from the algae is achieved by releasing the algae (juveniles) fixed to the algae cultivation means into the ocean (when cultivating in the ocean), and then waiting a predetermined period of time for the algae to naturally initiate maturation.
- This predetermined period of time varies depending on the type of algae being cultivated, the time of year, and the cultivation environment (e.g., water temperature, cultivation density), and is not necessarily limited; for example, it is preferably 150 to 360 days after fixation (or release) to the algae cultivation means.
- the period until the released reproductive cells or fertilized eggs are accepted by the settlement substrate and conjugate breeding is carried out also varies depending on the type of algae being cultivated, the time of year, and the cultivation environment (e.g., water temperature, cultivation density), and is not necessarily limited; for example, it is preferably 30 to 60 days after the release of the reproductive cells or fertilized eggs from the algae.
- the cultivation environment e.g., water temperature, cultivation density
- the algae are then harvested from both the algae cultivation means and the adhesion substrate.
- the target algae can be recovered not only from the algae cultivation means but also from the adhesion substrate, so the amount of algae recovered is reliably greater than when the algae cultivation means is used alone.
- Algae cultivated using the above method can be used as a raw material for bioethanol, which can be obtained, for example, using the method described below.
- a raw material for bioethanol which can be obtained, for example, using the method described below.
- Figure 8 shows the relationship between the types of macroalgae that can be cultivated using the algae cultivation system of the present invention and their maturation times (times of maximum biomass) in the Tohoku region and south of Japan.
- the macroalgae that can be cultivated in the waters off Japan mature at different times depending on the species, but overall, all types of algae can be harvested between January and December.
- January to May in Japan corresponds to the maturation period for Akamoku and Tamahahakimoku. Furthermore, March to May in Japan corresponds to the maturation period for Akamoku, Tamahahakimoku, and Togemoku. Furthermore, June to August in Japan corresponds to the maturation period for Umitorano, Yoremoku, Mametawara, Endo-Seki, and Yatsumatamoku. Furthermore, July to September in Japan corresponds to the maturation period for Sargassum serrata, Sargassum serrata, and Antokume. Furthermore, September to November in Japan corresponds to the maturation period for Akiyoremoku, Eisenia bicolor, Kurome, Ecklonia cava, and Sagarame. Furthermore, September to December in Japan corresponds to the maturation period for Akiyoremoku.
- Algae e.g., macroalgae
- sugars such as cellulose, hemicellulose, alginic acid, mannitol, and laminaran.
- ethanol i.e., bioethanol
- Bioethanol obtained using this method can be used, for example, as an automobile fuel to replace gasoline. Furthermore, because the bioethanol is produced through algae cultivation as described above, there is no competition with food production.
- the present invention enables the constant production of algae, thereby enabling a stable supply of the resulting bioethanol to the market. Furthermore, because it allows the cultivation of large algae with a high CO2 fixation ratio, it is also useful as a negative emission technology that captures and absorbs CO2 emitted into the environment. As a result, the present invention can also contribute to the realization of carbon neutrality.
- the present invention is useful, for example, for obtaining raw materials for bioethanol production. It is also useful in other fields such as fishing and tourism.
