Abstract
波長多重信号を一括で変換して伝送に供する、或いは、受信可能な波長群に変換するネットワークにおいて、波長多重信号毎に伝送する際の波長群を変更又は設定することを可能にし、或いは、信号を送受する方路を変更又は設定することを可能にする波長帯変換装置を提供する。本開示による波長帯変換装置(200)は、入力された波長群の光信号を(N+1)方路群に導く第1の光スイッチ(202)と、第1の光スイッチ(202)の出力のうち(N+1)方路群のうちのM方路群に導かれた波長群の光信号を変換する第1の波長帯変換器群(203a)と、第1の光スイッチ(202)の出力のうち、(N-M)方路群に導かれた波長群の光信号を変換する第2の波長帯変換器群と(203b)、第1及び第2の波長帯変換器群(203a及び203b)から出力された波長群の光信号の出力方路を制御する第2及び第3の光スイッチ(204a及び204b)と、を備え、1方路群において、波長群の光信号は変換されないように構成される。
Description
本開示は、波長帯変換装置に関する。
インターネットの普及に伴い、データ通信ネットワークに対する需要が急激に増えている。このように急増する需要に対応するため、データ通信ネットワークでは、低消費電力で大容量のデータを伝送することが可能な光通信ネットワークが広く構築されている。
また、光通信ネットワークでは、光スイッチを適用した光伝送装置が使用され得る。この光伝送装置は、光通信ネットワークにおける任意の複数の地点間の経路を柔軟に設定することを可能にする。
近年、このような光スイッチを適用した光伝送装置の一例として、より多くの情報を1本の光ファイバで伝送する目的で、複数の波長帯(例えばC帯とL帯)を用いる伝送装置も実用化が始まっている(例えば、非特許文献1参照)。
図1は、従来技術による光伝送装置100の基本的な構成を概略的に示す図である。尚、図1では、例として、外部から入力される波長多重信号の入力ポート、及び、外部へ出力される波長多重信号の出力ポートは、それぞれ1個である場合が描写されている。しかしながら、これは例示を意図したものであり、光伝送装置100の入力ポート及び出力ポートの数(方路数)は、M(Mは1以上の整数)であり得る。また、このような構成を有する光伝送装置100では、後述する通り、第1の光スイッチは、ユーザーの選択に応じて、波長群の光信号の方路が、M方路のいずれかに出力されるように構成される。尚、図1では、光信号の進行方向が矢印で描写されている。
図1に示される通り、最大M方路の光ファイバを接続可能な光伝送装置100は、外部から入力された波長多重信号を、N波長群(Nは2以上の整数)の光信号に分波する波長群分波器101と、波長群分波器101から出力されたN波長群の光信号の各々を増幅するN個の光増幅器102a-cと、光増幅器102a-cの各々の出力ポートと接続されたN個の1入力M出力の第1の光スイッチ103a-cと、第1の光スイッチ103a-cの各々の出力ポートと接続されたN個のM入力1出力の第2の光スイッチ104a-cと、第2の光スイッチ104a-cの出力ポートに接続され、入力されたN波長群を合波する波長群合波器105と、を含む。尚、図1では、波長群分波器101が分波する波長群の光信号の数Nは3である形態が描写されているが、これは例示を意図したものであり、Nの数は、波長多重信号が有する波長群の数に応じて、任意に設定され得る。
光伝送装置100の外部から波長多重信号が入力されると、当該外部から入力された波長多重信号は、波長群分波器101によってN波長群(図1の例では、3波長群)に分波される(例えば、S帯、C帯、L帯に分波される)。分波されたN波長群の光信号の各々は、当該波長群の光信号を増幅することが可能となるように設定された光増幅器102a-cの各々に入力される。例えば、光増幅器102aはS帯の光信号を増幅できるように、光増幅器102bは、C帯の光信号を増幅できるように、光増幅器102aはL帯の光信号を増幅できるように、それぞれ構成される。
光増幅器102a-cの各々の出力ポートは、出力方路を選択するための1入力M出力の第1の光スイッチ103a-cの各々に入力される。上述の例では、第1の光スイッチ103aには増幅されたS帯の光信号が、第1の光スイッチ103bには増幅されたC帯の光信号が、第1の光スイッチ103cには増幅されたL帯の光信号が、それぞれ入力される。そして、第1の光スイッチ103a-cの各々に入力された、各々の波長群の光信号は、M方路のうちユーザーによって選択された任意の方路に出力され、対応する第2の光スイッチ104a-cの各々に入力される。ただし、第1の光スイッチ103a-cの各々の出力ポートは、全て異なる第2の光スイッチ104a-cの各々の入力ポートと接続される。
第2の光スイッチ104a-cは、光伝送装置100のM個の出力ポートの各々に設けられている。上述の通り、第1の光スイッチ103a-cの各々から伝送された各波長群の光信号が、M個のうちのどの第2の光スイッチ104a-cに入力されるかは、ユーザーが選択できるように構成されている。第2の光スイッチ104a-cの各々の出力ポートは、M個の出力ポートの各々に設けられた波長群合波器105の入力ポートと接続される。波長群合波器105は、N波長群の光信号を合波して出力する機能を有する。
このような構成を有する光伝送装置100は、波長群として束ねられた波長多重信号を制御単位として経路制御する機能を有している。さらに、光伝送装置100は、他に波長単位で経路制御する機能や、信号を挿抜する機能、波長多重信号の信号間レベル偏差を低減する機能などを付加することも可能である。しかしながら、光伝送装置100は、複数波長帯域の使用を前提とする場合における、最も基本的なノード構成と言える。
光伝送装置100のような複数の波長帯を使用することを前提とした基本的なノード構成においては、上述の通り、経路制御の単位は波長群という粗い単位となる。しかしながら、波長群を光増幅器102a-cの対応する帯域と関係づけて定義するとき、実用的な送信器や受信器を用意できる波長帯は、C帯(1530nm~1565nm)とL帯(1565nm~1625nm)程度しかない。そのような状況下で、C帯、L帯以外の波長帯域を使用して、複数の波長群を使用するノードを構成しようとする場合、C帯、L帯以外の信号を生成する必要性が生じる。このような手法として、C帯あるいはL帯の波長多重信号を生成し、当該波長多重信号を一括で変換する手法が考えられる。また、C帯、L帯以外の波長群の光信号を伝送した後、受信する生成する手段として、伝送された波長多重信号を一括でC帯あるいはL帯の波長多重信号に変換する手法も考えられる。
しかしながら、このような波長多重信号を一括で変換して伝送に供したり、受信可能な波長群に変換したりするようなネットワークにおいて、種となる波長多重信号ごとに伝送する際の波長群を変更または設定することを可能にしたり、信号を送受する方路を変更または設定することを可能にするような利便性を向上する機能は、現在までに提案されていない。

本開示は、上記のような課題に対して鑑みてなされたものであり、その目的とするところは、波長多重信号を一括で変換して伝送に供する、或いは、受信可能な波長群に変換するようなネットワークにおいて、種となる波長多重信号毎に伝送する際の波長群を変更または設定することを可能にし、或いは、信号を送受する方路を変更または設定することが可能になるような波長帯変換装置を提供することにある。
上記のような課題に対し、本開示では、波長帯変換装置であって、入力された波長群の光信号を、(N+1)方路群(Nは1以上の整数)に導くように構成された第1の光スイッチと、第1の光スイッチの出力のうち、(N+1)方路群のうちM方路群(Mは1以上の整数。但し、N>M)に導かれた波長群の光信号を別の波長群の光信号に変換する第1の波長帯変換器群と、第1の光スイッチの出力のうち、第1の波長帯変換器群に導かれた(N+1)方路群とは異なる(N+1-M)方路群に導かれた波長群の光信号を別の波長群の光信号に変換する第2の波長帯変換器群と、第1の波長帯変換器群の各々から出力された波長群の光信号の出力方路を制御する第2の光スイッチと、第2の波長帯変換器群の各々から出力された波長群の光信号の出力方路を制御する第3の光スイッチと、を備え、第1の波長帯変換器群及び第2の波長帯変換器群のいずれにも導かれない1方路群において、波長群の光信号は他の波長群の光信号に変換されないように構成される、波長帯変換装置を提供する。

図2は、本開示の第1の実施形態による波長帯変換装置200の構成を概念的に示す図である。図2に示される通り、波長帯変換装置200は、複数の入力端201a-fと、入力端201a-fから入力された波長群の光信号を、ユーザーの設定に応じて、第1の方路群、第2の方路群、及び、第3の方路群の各々に導くように構成された第1の光スイッチ202と、第1の光スイッチ202の出力のうち、第1の方路群に導かれた波長群の光信号を別の波長群の光信号に変換する第1の波長帯変換器203a1-a3と、第1の光スイッチ202の出力のうち、第2の方路群に導かれた波長群の光信号を別の波長群の光信号に変換する第2の波長帯変換器203b1-b3と、第1の波長帯変換器203a1-a3の各々から出力された波長群の光信号の出力方路を制御する第2の光スイッチ204aと、第2の波長帯変換器203b1-b3の各々から出力された波長群の光信号の出力方路を制御する第3の光スイッチ204bと、を含み、当該第3の方路群では、波長群の光信号は他の波長群の光信号に変換されないように構成される。
図2は、本開示の第1の実施形態による波長帯変換装置200の構成を概念的に示す図である。図2に示される通り、波長帯変換装置200は、複数の入力端201a-fと、入力端201a-fから入力された波長群の光信号を、ユーザーの設定に応じて、第1の方路群、第2の方路群、及び、第3の方路群の各々に導くように構成された第1の光スイッチ202と、第1の光スイッチ202の出力のうち、第1の方路群に導かれた波長群の光信号を別の波長群の光信号に変換する第1の波長帯変換器203a1-a3と、第1の光スイッチ202の出力のうち、第2の方路群に導かれた波長群の光信号を別の波長群の光信号に変換する第2の波長帯変換器203b1-b3と、第1の波長帯変換器203a1-a3の各々から出力された波長群の光信号の出力方路を制御する第2の光スイッチ204aと、第2の波長帯変換器203b1-b3の各々から出力された波長群の光信号の出力方路を制御する第3の光スイッチ204bと、を含み、当該第3の方路群では、波長群の光信号は他の波長群の光信号に変換されないように構成される。
波長帯変換装置200では、外部から受信した波長群の光信号が入力端201a-fから入力される。当該波長群の光信号は、例えば、波長帯変換装置200が適用される光伝送装置(図示せず)から経路制御され、波長帯変換装置200へ入力されるように導かれた波長群の光信号であり得る。尚、図1では、入力端201a-fは6個である形態が描写されているが、これは例示を意図したものであり、入力端201a-fの数は、設計に応じて任意に設定されてよい。
第1の光スイッチ202は、入力端201a-fの各々から出力された波長群の光信号の経路を、ユーザーの選択(入出力ポートの接続関係の設定)に応じて、方路制御する機能を有する。図1に示される例では、第1の光スイッチ202は、入力端201a-fの各々から出力された波長群の光信号を、第1の波長帯変換器203a1-a3(第1の方路群)、第2の波長帯変換器203b1-b3(第2の方路群)、又は、出力端205c1-c4(第3の方路群)、のいずれかに出力できるような、6入力10出力の形態が描写されている。ただし、第1の光スイッチ202の出力ポートの数及び方路群の数は、設計に応じて、任意の数が設定されてよい。但し、第3の方路群は1方路群であるとする。
第1の光スイッチ202の出力の一部は、第1の波長帯変換器203a1-a3、第2の波長帯変換器b1-b3に接続される。第1の波長帯変換器203a1-a3、及び第2の波長帯変換器203b1-b3は、第1の光スイッチ202によって導かれた波長群の光信号を異なる他の波長群の光信号に変換する機能を有する。尚、第1の波長帯変換器203a1-a3と第2の波長帯変換器203b1-b3は、異なる種類の波長変換器であってよい。例えば、第1の波長帯変換器203a1-a3がC帯の光信号をS帯の光信号に変換するように構成された場合、第2の波長帯変換器203b1-b3はC帯の光信号をU帯の光信号に変換するように交際され得る。このような構成を有する波長帯変換装置200は、波長多重信号を一括で種類ごとに異なる他の波長群の光信号に変換することを可能にする。
第1の波長帯変換器203a1-a3、及び第2の波長帯変換器203b1-b3の各々は、入力された波長群の光信号に対し、波長帯変換を行う任意の既知のデバイスであり得る。例えば、第1の波長帯変換器203a1-a3、及び第2の波長帯変換器203b1-b3の各々は、周期分極反転ニオブ酸リチウム(PPLN:Periodically Poled Lithium Niobate)を用いた二次非線形光学効果に基づく波長変換(和周波発生(SFG)、差周波発生(DFG)、第二高調波発生(SFG))を行うように構成された波長変換素子であり得る。別の例では、第1の波長帯変換器203a1-a3、及び第2の波長帯変換器203b1-b3の各々は、高非線形ファイバであり得る。
第2の光スイッチ204a、及び第3の光スイッチ204bの各々は、第1の波長帯変換器203a1-a3、及び第2の波長帯変換器203b1-b3の各々から出力された変換後の波長群の光信号の経路制御を行う機能を有する。ここでは、例として、第2の光スイッチ204a、及び第3の光スイッチ204bの各々は、3入力4出力の形態である例が描写されている。このような例において、第2の光スイッチ204a、及び第3の光スイッチ204bの各々は、第1の波長帯変換器203a1-a3、及び第2の波長帯変換器203b1-b3の各々から出力された変換後の波長群の光信号を、ユーザーの選択(入出力ポートの接続関係の設定)に応じて、出力端205a1-a4、b1-b4のいずれかに導くように制御する。
第1の光スイッチ202の出力のうち、第1の波長帯変換器203a1-a3、及び第2の波長帯変換器203b1-b3と接続されなった出力は、出力端205c1-c4と接続される。この経路(第3の方路)に導かれた波長群の光信号は、別の波長群に変換されることなく、出力端205c1-c4から出力される。
図2では、出力端205a1-a4、b1-b4、c1-c4は、12個である形態が例示されているが、これは例示を意図したものであり、設計に応じて任意の数が配置されてよい。また、各波長群の出力端の数は、適用される光伝送装置の長距離伝送用入出力方路数と一致していることが望ましい。
このような構成を有する、本開示の第1の実施形態による波長帯変換装置200は、入力された波長群の光信号を任意の波長群に一括で変換し、所望の方路に向けて送出する機能を有する。このような機能を有する波長帯変換装置200は、種となる波長多重信号ごとに伝送する際の波長群を変更または設定することを可能にし、或いは、信号を送受する方路を変更または設定することを可能にする。
(第2の実施形態)
図3は、本開示の第2の実施形態による波長帯変換装置300の構成を概念的に示す図である。図3に示される通り、図3に示される通り、波長帯変換装置300は、複数の入力端301a1-a4、b1-b4、c1-c4と、入力端301a1-a4の各々から入力され、第1の方路群に波長群の光信号を導くように経路制御を行う第1の光スイッチ302aと、入力端301b1-b4の各々から入力され、第2の方路群に波長群の光信号を導くように経路制御を行う第2の光スイッチ302bと、第1の光スイッチ302aから出力された波長群の光信号を他の波長群の光信号に変換する第1の波長帯変換器303a1-a3と、第2の光スイッチ302bから出力された波長群の光信号を他の波長群の光信号に変換する第2の波長帯変換器303b1-b3と、第1の波長帯変換器303a1-a3から出力された波長群の光信号、第2の波長帯変換器303b1-b3から出力された波長群の光信号、及び、第3の方路群として、入力端301c1-c4から入力され、他の波長群に変換されることなく導かれた波長群の光信号の各々に対し、出力方路を制御する第3の光スイッチ304と、を含む。
図3は、本開示の第2の実施形態による波長帯変換装置300の構成を概念的に示す図である。図3に示される通り、図3に示される通り、波長帯変換装置300は、複数の入力端301a1-a4、b1-b4、c1-c4と、入力端301a1-a4の各々から入力され、第1の方路群に波長群の光信号を導くように経路制御を行う第1の光スイッチ302aと、入力端301b1-b4の各々から入力され、第2の方路群に波長群の光信号を導くように経路制御を行う第2の光スイッチ302bと、第1の光スイッチ302aから出力された波長群の光信号を他の波長群の光信号に変換する第1の波長帯変換器303a1-a3と、第2の光スイッチ302bから出力された波長群の光信号を他の波長群の光信号に変換する第2の波長帯変換器303b1-b3と、第1の波長帯変換器303a1-a3から出力された波長群の光信号、第2の波長帯変換器303b1-b3から出力された波長群の光信号、及び、第3の方路群として、入力端301c1-c4から入力され、他の波長群に変換されることなく導かれた波長群の光信号の各々に対し、出力方路を制御する第3の光スイッチ304と、を含む。
波長帯変換装置300は、図2に示される波長帯変換装置200における入力と出力が入れ替わった形態に相当する。換言すれば、波長帯変換装置200を往路側とすると、波長帯変換装置300は復路側に相当する。
このような構成を有する波長帯変換装置300であっても、波長帯変換装置200と同様に、入力された波長多重信号を適切な波長群に一括で変換し、所望の方路に向けて送出することができる。このような機能を有する波長帯変換装置300は、伝送する際の波長多重信号の波長群、或いは、信号を送受する方路を問わず、適切な波長群に変更し、一種類の装置(すなわち、波長帯変換装置200における種となる波長多重信号を生成する装置と対になる受信用装置)で信号を受信することを可能にする。
以上述べた通り、本開示による波長帯変換装置は、種となる波長多重信号ごとに伝送する際の波長群を変更または設定することを可能にし、或いは、信号を送受する方路を変更または設定することを可能にする。したがって、従来技術よりも膨大なデータ量を伝送することが可能な光伝送装置への適用が見込まれる。
Claims (3)
- 波長帯変換装置であって、
入力された波長群の光信号を、(N+1)方路群(Nは1以上の整数)に導くように構成された第1の光スイッチと、
前記第1の光スイッチの出力のうち、前記(N+1)方路群のうちM方路群(Mは1以上の整数。但し、N≧M)に導かれた波長群の光信号を別の波長群の光信号に変換する第1の波長帯変換器群と、
前記第1の光スイッチの出力のうち、前記第1の波長帯変換器群に導かれた前記(N+1)方路群とは異なる(N+1-M)方路群に導かれた波長群の光信号を別の波長群の光信号に変換する第2の波長帯変換器群と、
前記第1の波長帯変換器群の各々から出力された波長群の光信号の出力方路を制御する第2の光スイッチと、
前記第2の波長帯変換器群の各々から出力された波長群の光信号の出力方路を制御する第3の光スイッチと、
を備え、
前記第1の波長帯変換器群及び前記第2の波長帯変換器群のいずれにも導かれない1方路群において、波長群の光信号は他の波長群の光信号に変換されないように構成される、
波長帯変換装置。 - 波長帯変換装置であって、
入力された波長群の光信号のうち、第1の方路群に導かれた波長群の光信号の経路制御を行う第1の光スイッチと、
前記入力された波長群の光信号のうち、前記第1の方路群とは異なる第2の方路群に導かれた波長群の光信号の経路制御を行う第2の光スイッチと、
前記第1の光スイッチから出力された波長群の光信号を他の波長群の光信号に変換する第1の波長帯変換器群と、
前記第2の光スイッチから出力された波長群の光信号を他の波長群の光信号に変換する第2の波長帯変換器群と、
前記第1の波長帯変換器群から出力された波長群の光信号、前記第2の波長帯変換器群から出力された波長群の光信号、及び、前記第1の方路群及び前記第2の方路群とは異なる第3の方路群に入力され、他の波長群に変換されることなく導かれた波長群の光信号の各々に対し、出力方路を制御する第3の光スイッチと、を備える、波長帯変換装置。 - 前記第1の波長帯変換器群及び前記第2の波長帯変換器群は、周期分極反転ニオブ酸リチウムが用いられた二次非線形光学効果に基づく波長変換を行うように構成された波長変換素子、又は、高非線形ファイバのいずれかである、請求項1又は2に記載の波長帯変換装置。
