- water generated during defrosting of the upper heat source heat exchanger may splash onto the lower heat source heat exchanger, causing further frost to form, and there is a risk of frost remaining unmelted on the lower heat source heat exchanger.
- a refrigeration cycle device of a first aspect includes a refrigerant circuit.
- the refrigerant circuit includes a compressor, a first heat source heat exchanger, a second heat source heat exchanger, and a utilization heat exchanger.
- the second heat source heat exchanger is arranged below the first heat source heat exchanger and alongside the first heat source heat exchanger.
- the refrigeration cycle device performs a first operation and a second operation in this order to defrost the first heat source heat exchanger and the second heat source heat exchanger.
- the first operation is an operation in which the first heat source heat exchanger functions as a radiator and the second heat source heat exchanger functions as an evaporator to defrost the first heat source heat exchanger.
- the second operation is an operation in which the second heat source heat exchanger functions as a radiator and the first heat source heat exchanger functions as an evaporator to defrost the second heat source heat exchanger.
- the second heat input amount is greater than the first heat input amount.
- the first heat input amount is the total heat input amount per unit volume of the heat source heat exchanger supplied to the first heat source heat exchanger during the first operation.
- the second heat input amount is the total heat input amount per unit volume of the heat source heat exchanger supplied to the second heat source heat exchanger during the second operation.
- defrosting is performed in the order of the first heat source heat exchanger located above and the second heat source heat exchanger located below. Therefore, even if water generated by defrosting the first heat source heat exchanger splashes on the second heat source heat exchanger and causes further frost, this can be removed by the second operation.
- the total heat input per unit volume of the heat source heat exchanger supplied to the second heat source heat exchanger is greater than the total heat input per unit volume of the heat source heat exchanger supplied to the first heat source heat exchanger (first heat input), so unmelted frost is less likely to occur in the second heat source heat exchanger.
- a refrigeration cycle device is the refrigeration cycle device according to the first aspect, wherein the amount of refrigerant circulating through the second heat source heat exchanger during the second operation is greater than the amount of refrigerant circulating through the first heat source heat exchanger during the first operation.
- the second heat input can be made larger than the first heat input by adjusting the amount of refrigerant circulating.
- the refrigeration cycle device of a third aspect is the refrigeration cycle device of the second aspect, in which the compressor rotation speed during the second operation is greater than the compressor rotation speed during the first operation.
- the second heat input can be made larger than the first heat input by adjusting the compressor rotation speed.
- a refrigeration cycle apparatus is the refrigeration cycle apparatus according to any one of the first aspect to the third aspect, further comprising a first valve and a second valve.
- the first valve adjusts the flow rate of refrigerant flowing through the first heat source heat exchanger.
- the second valve adjusts the flow rate of refrigerant flowing through the second heat source heat exchanger.
- the second heat source heat exchanger functions as an evaporator through which the refrigerant that has flowed through the first heat source heat exchanger flows.
- the first heat source heat exchanger functions as an evaporator through which the refrigerant that has flowed through the second heat source heat exchanger flows.
- the opening of the second valve is increased.
- the opening of the first valve is increased.
- the second time is shorter than the first time.
- the refrigeration cycle device of the fourth aspect by increasing the opening of the valve corresponding to the heat source heat exchanger that functions as an evaporator, refrigerant flows more easily through the heat source heat exchanger where defrosting is performed, which tends to promote the discharge of liquid refrigerant that has accumulated in the heat source heat exchanger where defrosting is performed out of the heat source heat exchanger.
- the refrigeration cycle device of the fourth aspect can shorten the time required to defrost the heat source heat exchanger and reduce the occurrence of unmelted frost.
- the first valve when defrosting the second heat source heat exchanger, which tends to take a long time to defrost, the first valve is opened earlier (compared to the timing at which the second valve is opened during the first operation), which reduces the amount of frost that remains unmelted and allows the defrosting of the second heat source heat exchanger to be completed in a relatively short time.
- a refrigeration cycle device of a fifth aspect is a refrigeration cycle device of any one of the first aspect to the fourth aspect, further comprising a first refrigerant pipe, a suction pipe, a bypass pipe, and a bypass valve.
- a first heat source heat exchanger and a second heat source heat exchanger are connected in parallel to one end of the first refrigerant pipe, and a utilization heat exchanger is connected to the other end of the first refrigerant pipe.
- the suction pipe is connected to the suction port of the compressor.
- the bypass pipe connects the first refrigerant pipe and the suction pipe.
- a bypass valve is provided on the bypass pipe.
- the utilization heat exchanger functions as an evaporator through which refrigerant flows that has flowed through the first heat source heat exchanger and the first refrigerant pipe.
- the utilization heat exchanger functions as an evaporator through which refrigerant flows that has flowed through the second heat source heat exchanger and the first refrigerant pipe.

- the bypass valve that was closed is opened, or the opening degree of the bypass valve that was open is increased. The fourth hour is shorter than the third hour.
- the refrigeration cycle device of the fifth aspect in the refrigeration cycle device of the fifth aspect, increasing the opening of the bypass valve makes it easier for refrigerant to flow through the heat source heat exchanger where defrosting is performed, which tends to promote the discharge of liquid refrigerant that has accumulated in the heat source heat exchanger where defrosting is performed out of the heat source heat exchanger. As a result, the refrigeration cycle device of the fifth aspect can shorten the time required to defrost the heat source heat exchanger and suppress the occurrence of unmelted frost.
- the bypass valve when defrosting the second heat source heat exchanger, which tends to take a long time to defrost, the bypass valve is opened earlier (compared to the timing at which the bypass valve is opened during the first operation), which makes it possible to complete defrosting of the second heat source heat exchanger in a relatively short time while minimizing the amount of frost that remains unmelted.
- a refrigeration cycle device is a refrigeration cycle device according to any one of the first to fifth aspects, wherein the second operation time is longer than the first operation time.
- the second heat input can be made larger than the first heat input by adjusting the times of the first and second operations.
- a seventh aspect of the refrigeration cycle device is the sixth aspect of the refrigeration cycle device, in which the first operation is terminated when a first maximum time has elapsed since the start of the first operation, and the second operation is terminated when a second maximum time has elapsed since the start of the second operation.

- the refrigeration cycle device of an eighth aspect is the refrigeration cycle device of the sixth aspect, in which, after performing the second operation, the first operation and the second operation are performed in sequence to defrost the first heat source heat exchanger and the second heat source heat exchanger.
- the total time of the second operation is made longer than the total time of the first operation, and the second heat input amount is made greater than the first heat input amount, thereby suppressing unmelted frost in the second heat source heat exchanger.
- a ninth aspect of the refrigeration cycle device is the refrigeration cycle device of any one of the first to eighth aspects, further comprising a third valve that adjusts the flow rate of refrigerant flowing through the utilization heat exchanger, and a utilization fan that supplies air to the utilization heat exchanger.
- the third valve is closed and the operation of the utilization fan is stopped.
- the amount of heat input to the second heat source heat exchanger is increased, making it easier to prevent frost from remaining unmelted.

- first defrost operation and the second defrost operation are each performed once during alternating defrost operation
- one of the first defrost operation and the second defrost operation may be performed multiple times during alternating defrost operation.
- the operation of the air conditioning apparatus 100 may be switched in the following order: first heating operation, second defrost operation (third heating operation), first defrost operation (second heating operation), second defrost operation (third heating operation), and first heating operation.
- the first switching valve 16a connects the suction pipe P1 and the first gas pipe P3a. This state is shown as the ON state in Fig. 8.
- the control unit 90 controls the first switching valve 16a to connect the discharge pipe P2 and the first gas pipe P3a to perform the first defrosting operation. This state is shown as the OFF state in Fig. 8.
- control unit 90 controls the first switching valve 16a so that it connects the suction pipe P1 and the first gas pipe P3a (to the ON state) in order to start the second defrosting operation.
- control unit 90 may, for example, determine that the first defrost operation has been completed when the measurement value of a temperature sensor (not shown) provided in the first heat source heat exchanger 18a exceeds a predetermined temperature for a predetermined period of time. Furthermore, although not limited to, the control unit 90 may, for example, terminate the first defrost operation if the measurement value of the temperature sensor provided in the first heat source heat exchanger 18a does not exceed the predetermined temperature for a predetermined period of time after the predetermined maximum period of time Tmax1 has elapsed.

- the second switching valve 16b connects the intake pipe P1 and the first gas pipe P3b. This state is shown as the ON state in Figure 8. If the defrosting conditions are met during the first heating operation, the air conditioning device 100 performs the first defrosting operation, and in this case, the control unit 90 keeps the second switching valve 16b in the ON state (in other words, the second switching valve 16b is not operated).

- control unit 90 controls the second switching valve 16b to connect the suction pipe P1 and the first gas pipe P3a (to the ON state) in order to start the first heating operation.
- control unit 90 may, for example, determine that the second defrost operation has been completed when the measurement value of a temperature sensor (not shown) provided in the second heat source heat exchanger 18b exceeds a predetermined temperature for a predetermined period of time. Furthermore, although not limited to, the control unit 90 may, for example, terminate the second defrost operation if the measurement value of the temperature sensor provided in the second heat source heat exchanger 18b does not exceed the predetermined temperature for a predetermined period of time after the predetermined maximum period of time Tmax1 has elapsed.
- (3-2) Compressor When the defrost condition is met during the first heating operation, the control unit 90 changes the rotation speed of the compressor 12 to a predetermined rotation speed Rc while continuing the operation of the compressor 12.
- the predetermined rotation speed Rc is a rotation speed that is smaller than the maximum rotation speed Rmax of the compressor 12.
- the maximum rotation speed Rmax of the compressor 12 is defined as follows: In the first heating operation, the control unit 90 changes the rotation speed of the compressor 12 within a predetermined rotation speed range according to the required capacity. The maximum value of the rotation speed within this predetermined rotation speed range is the maximum rotation speed Rmax.
- control unit 90 continues to operate the compressor 12 while controlling the rotation speed of the compressor 12 so that it does not become excessively high.
- the predetermined rotation speed Rc is preferably less than half the maximum rotation speed Rmax. From the perspective of noise suppression, it is even more preferable that the predetermined rotation speed Rc be 10 to 15% of the maximum rotation speed Rmax.
- the control unit 90 sets the rotation speed of the compressor 12 to the predetermined rotation speed Rc, and then switches the first switching valve 16a to the OFF state after a predetermined time (e.g., one minute) has elapsed.
- a predetermined time e.g., one minute
- the control unit 90 may switch the first switching valve 16a to the OFF state at the timing when the rotation speed of the compressor 12 is changed to the predetermined rotation speed Rc.
- the control unit 90 may switch the first switching valve 16a to the OFF state and then change the rotation speed of the compressor 12 to the predetermined rotation speed Rc.
- the control unit 90 changes the rotation speed of the compressor 12 to the second rotation speed Rb.
- the second rotation speed Rb is a value greater than half the maximum rotation speed Rmax and less than or equal to the maximum rotation speed Rmax.
- the control unit 90 changes the rotation speed of the compressor 12 to a predetermined rotation speed Rc while continuing to operate the compressor 12 when transitioning to a second defrost operation.
- the predetermined rotation speed Rc is a value smaller than the maximum rotation speed Rmax.
- the predetermined rotation speed Rc is a value smaller than half the maximum rotation speed Rmax. From the perspective of noise suppression, the predetermined rotation speed Rc is even more preferably 10 to 15% of the maximum rotation speed Rmax.
- the compressor 12 When transitioning from first defrost operation to second defrost operation, the compressor 12 continues to operate, while the air conditioning apparatus 100 changes from a state in which the second heat source heat exchanger 18b functions as an evaporator and the first heat source heat exchanger 18a functions as a radiator to a state in which the second heat source heat exchanger 18b functions as a radiator and the first heat source heat exchanger 18a functions as an evaporator.
- the compressor 12 is in operation, and both the first switching valve 16a and the second switching valve 16b operate, as shown in FIG. 8.
- the sound-absorbing member 25 also makes it difficult for noise generated when switching the states of the first switching valve 16a and the second switching valve 16b to be transmitted to the space to be air-conditioned.
- the predetermined rotation speed Rc at the timing of transition from first defrost operation to second defrost operation and the predetermined rotation speed Rc at the timing of transition from first heating operation to first defrost operation are described as being the same value. However, this is not limited to this, and for example, the predetermined rotation speed at the timing of transition from first defrost operation to second defrost operation may be a smaller value than the predetermined rotation speed at the timing of transition from first heating operation to first defrost operation.
- the control unit 90 sets the rotation speed of the compressor 12 to the predetermined rotation speed Rc, and then switches the first switching valve 16a to the ON state and the second switching valve 16b to the OFF state after a predetermined time (e.g., one minute) has elapsed.
- a predetermined time e.g., one minute
- the control unit 90 may switch the first switching valve 16a to the ON state and the second switching valve 16b to the OFF state a longer time (e.g., two minutes) after setting the rotation speed of the compressor 12 to the predetermined rotation speed Rc than when switching from the first heating operation to the first defrost operation.
- the timing of operation of the first switching valve 16a and the second switching valve 16b is not limited to the above embodiment.
- the control unit 90 may switch the first switching valve 16a and the second switching valve 16b to the OFF state at the timing when the rotation speed of the compressor 12 is changed to the predetermined rotation speed Rc.
- the control unit 90 may switch the first switching valve 16a and the second switching valve 16b to the OFF state and then change the rotation speed of the compressor 12 to the predetermined rotation speed Rc.
- the control unit 90 changes the rotation speed of the compressor 12 to the first rotation speed Ra.
- the first rotation speed Ra be as large as possible.
- the first rotation speed Ra is greater than the second rotation speed Rb and less than or equal to the maximum rotation speed Rmax.
- the first rotation speed Ra greater than the second rotation speed Rb
- the following effect can be obtained.
- the second heat source heat exchanger 18b is disposed below the first heat source heat exchanger 18a, as in this embodiment, there is a risk that water used during defrosting in the first heat source heat exchanger 18a may get on the second heat source heat exchanger 18b and freeze. Therefore, defrosting the second heat source heat exchanger 18b tends to require a larger amount of heat than defrosting the first heat source heat exchanger 18a.
- the first rotation speed Ra greater than the second rotation speed Rb defrosting can be more reliably performed in the second heat source heat exchanger 18b as well.
- first rotation speed Ra and the second rotation speed Rb may be the same value.
- control unit 90 changes the rotation speed of the compressor 12 to a predetermined rotation speed Rc while continuing to operate the compressor 12 when transitioning to the first heating operation.
- the predetermined rotation speed Rc is as described above.
- control unit 90 controls the opening degree of the first heat source expansion valve 20a and the second heat source expansion valve 20b, for example, depending on the degree of subcooling.
- the control unit 90 changes the opening of the first heat source expansion valve 20a to opening Op12 and the opening of the second heat source expansion valve 20b to opening Op22 while continuing to operate the compressor 12. Opening Op12 and opening Op22 may be at their maximum openings.
- control unit 90 transitions to the first defrost operation, it changes the opening of the first heat source expansion valve 20a corresponding to the first heat source heat exchanger 18a where defrosting is performed to opening Op11. It is preferable that opening Op11 be as large as possible. Opening Op11 will be described in detail below.
- the control unit 90 stops the normal control of the opening degree of the second heat source expansion valve 20b, and gradually increases the opening degree of the second heat source expansion valve 20b to an opening degree greater than the previous opening degree of the second heat source expansion valve 20b (to an opening degree greater than 1/2 of the maximum opening degree, if necessary).
- the specified condition here is that defrosting of the first heat source heat exchanger 18a is not completed within a specified time.
- the control unit 90 measures the time from the start of the first defrosting operation, and if it is not determined that the first defrosting operation has been completed even after the specified time T1 ( ⁇ maximum time Tmax1) has elapsed, it gradually increases the opening of the second heat source expansion valve 20b.
- the refrigerant flows more easily through the second heat source heat exchanger 18b, and therefore, even if liquid refrigerant accumulates in the first heat source heat exchanger 18a where defrosting is performed, this liquid refrigerant is more easily discharged outside the first heat source heat exchanger 18a.
- the time required to defrost the first heat source heat exchanger 18a is shortened, and the amount of frost remaining in the first heat source heat exchanger 18a can be reduced.
- the control unit 90 changes the opening degree of the first heat source expansion valve 20a to opening degree Op12 and the opening degree of the second heat source expansion valve 20b to opening degree Op22 while continuing to operate the compressor 12.
- opening degree Op12 and opening degree Op22 may be maximum opening degrees.
- the control unit 90 controls the opening degree of the second heat source heat exchanger 18b within a predetermined opening degree range.
- the opening degree Op21 is greater than this predetermined opening degree range.
- the opening degree Op21 is greater than the opening degree of the second heat source expansion valve 20b when the second heat source heat exchanger 18b is used as an evaporator.
- the opening degree Op21 may be the maximum opening degree possible for the second heat source expansion valve 20b.
- control unit 90 checks the accumulation of liquid refrigerant in the second heat source heat exchanger 18b, stops the normal control of the opening of the first heat source expansion valve 20a (within a range not exceeding half the maximum possible opening), and increases the opening of the first heat source expansion valve 20a to a larger opening than the previous opening of the first heat source expansion valve 20a (see dashed line in Figure 8).
- the control unit 90 stops the normal control of the opening degree of the first heat source expansion valve 20a and gradually increases the opening degree of the first heat source expansion valve 20a to an opening degree greater than the previous opening degree of the first heat source expansion valve 20a (to an opening degree greater than half the maximum opening degree, if necessary).
- the specified condition here is that defrosting of the second heat source heat exchanger 18b is not completed within a specified time.
- the control unit 90 measures the time from the start of the second defrosting operation, and if it is not determined that the second defrosting operation has been completed even after the specified time T2 ( ⁇ maximum time Tmax2) has elapsed, it gradually increases the opening of the first heat source expansion valve 20a.
- control unit 90 stores the time required for defrosting the previous time the second defrosting operation was performed and whether the second defrosting operation was completed within the maximum time Tmax2. Based on this result, if it is predicted that defrosting of the second heat source heat exchanger 18b will not be completed within the specified time T2 ( ⁇ maximum time Tmax2), the control unit 90 gradually increases the opening of the first heat source expansion valve 20a once the specified time T2 has elapsed.
- the control unit 90 changes the opening degree of the first heat source expansion valve 20a to opening degree Op12 and the opening degree of the second heat source expansion valve 20b to opening degree Op22 while continuing to operate the compressor 12. Opening degrees Op12 and Op22 may be maximum opening degrees.
- the subcooling valve 24 is an example of a bypass valve defined in the claims.
- the control unit 90 closes the subcooling valve 24 during the first heating operation, but during the first defrost operation and the second defrost operation, it basically controls the subcooling valve 24 to a predetermined opening Op31, allowing a portion of the refrigerant flowing from the utilization heat exchangers 52a and 52b to bypass the suction pipe P1.
- control unit 90 monitors the amount of liquid refrigerant accumulated in the first heat source heat exchanger 18a, where defrosting is being performed, or the amount of liquid refrigerant accumulated in the second heat source heat exchanger 18b, where defrosting is being performed, and increases the opening degree of the subcooling valve 24 beyond opening degree Op31. Specifically, if predetermined conditions are met during the first defrosting operation or the second defrosting operation, the control unit 90 increases the opening degree of the subcooling valve 24 beyond opening degree Op31.
- the specified condition here is that the first defrost operation or the second defrost operation is not completed within a specified time.
- the control unit 90 measures the time from the start of the first defrost operation, and if it is determined that the first defrost operation is not completed even after a specified time T1' ( ⁇ maximum time Tmax1) has elapsed, or if it measures the time from the start of the second defrost operation, and if it is determined that the second defrost operation is not completed even after a specified time T2' ( ⁇ maximum time Tmax2) has elapsed, increases the opening degree of the subcooling valve 24 beyond opening degree Op31.
- control unit 90 stores the time required for defrosting the previous time the first defrost operation or second defrost operation was performed, and whether the first defrost operation or second defrost operation was completed within the maximum time Tmax1 or Tmax2.
- the control unit 90 increases the opening of the subcooling valve 24 from opening Op31 when the predetermined time T1' has elapsed in the case of the first defrost operation, or when the predetermined time T2' has elapsed in the case of the second defrost operation.
- control unit 90 may basically close the subcooling valve 24 during the first defrosting operation and the second defrosting operation. The control unit 90 may then control the subcooling valve 24 to open when the above-mentioned predetermined conditions are met during the first defrosting operation or the second defrosting operation.
- the control unit 90 when defrosting of the heat source heat exchangers 18a, 18b is performed, the control unit 90 preferably stops the heat source fans 17a, 17b corresponding to the heat source heat exchangers 18a, 18b being defrosted.
- the second heat source heat exchanger 18b is arranged below the first heat source heat exchanger 18a, side by side with the first heat source heat exchanger 18a.
- “arranging the second heat source heat exchanger 18b below the first heat source heat exchanger 18a, side by side with the first heat source heat exchanger 18a” means that the first heat source heat exchanger 18a and the second heat source heat exchanger 18b are arranged in a positional relationship such that at least a portion of the first heat source heat exchanger 18a overlaps with the second heat source heat exchanger 18b in a top view (when viewed from directly above).
- the first heat source heat exchanger 18a and the second heat source heat exchanger 18b are arranged in this manner, if defrosting operation is performed on the first heat source heat exchanger 18a, the water generated during defrosting may splash onto the second heat source heat exchanger 18b and freeze in the second heat source heat exchanger 18b.
- defrosting is performed in the first heat source heat exchanger 18a, followed by defrosting in the second heat source heat exchanger 18b.
- the air conditioning apparatus 100 defrosts the first heat source heat exchanger 18a and the second heat source heat exchanger 18b in alternating defrosting operation, it performs the first defrosting operation and then the second defrosting operation.
- the second defrosting operation may be performed first in alternating defrosting operation, but in this case too, the first defrosting operation is performed before the second defrosting operation.
- the air conditioning unit 100 is designed so that the amount of heat supplied to the second heat source heat exchanger 18b during defrosting is greater than the amount of heat supplied to the second heat source heat exchanger 18b during defrosting.
- the air conditioning apparatus 100 is designed so that the second heat input amount H2, which is the total heat input amount per unit volume of the heat source heat exchanger supplied to the second heat source heat exchanger 18b during the second defrost operation, is greater than the first heat input amount H1, which is the total heat input amount per unit volume of the heat source heat exchanger supplied to the first heat source heat exchanger 18a during the first defrost operation.
- the total heat input per unit volume of the heat source heat exchanger is used because the internal volume of the first heat source heat exchanger 18a (roughly the internal volume of the heat transfer tubes of the heat exchanger that make up the first heat source heat exchanger 18a) and the internal volume of the second heat source heat exchanger 18b (roughly the internal volume of the heat transfer tubes of the heat exchanger that make up the second heat source heat exchanger 18b) may not be the same.
- the air conditioning device 100 applies, for example, one or a combination of the following configurations (A) to (C) so that the second heat input amount H2 is greater than the first heat input amount H1.
- the amount of refrigerant circulating through the second heat source heat exchanger 18b during second defrost operation is made greater than the amount of refrigerant circulating through the first heat source heat exchanger 18a during first defrost operation.
- the first rotation speed Ra of the compressor 12 during second defrost operation is made greater than the second rotation speed Rb of the compressor 12 during first defrost operation.
- the first defrost operation is forcibly terminated when the maximum time Tmax1 has elapsed
- the second defrost operation is forcibly terminated when the maximum time Tmax2 has elapsed. Therefore, by making the maximum time Tmax2 longer than the maximum time Tmax1, even if the frost is difficult to melt, the second heat input H2 can be increased relative to the first heat input H1, thereby suppressing the amount of frost remaining unmelted in the second heat source heat exchanger 18b.
- the second heat input amount H2 can be increased relative to the first heat input amount H1, thereby suppressing the amount of frost remaining unmelted in the second heat source heat exchanger 18b.
- the control unit 90 stops the normal control of the opening degree of the second heat source expansion valve 20b and increases the opening degree of the second heat source expansion valve 20b to a degree greater than the previous opening degree of the second heat source expansion valve 20b. Furthermore, when predetermined conditions are satisfied during the second defrost operation, the control unit 90 stops the normal control of the opening degree of the first heat source expansion valve 20a and increases the opening degree of the first heat source expansion valve 20a to a degree greater than the previous opening degree of the first heat source expansion valve 20a.
- the predetermined time T2 is set shorter than the predetermined time T1
- this liquid refrigerant will be more easily discharged outside the second heat source heat exchanger 18b, making it easier to prevent frost from remaining unmelted in the second heat source heat exchanger 18b.
- control unit 90 stores the time required for defrosting the previous time the first defrosting operation/second defrosting operation was performed, and whether the first defrosting operation/second defrosting operation was completed within the maximum time Tmax1/Tmax2. Based on this result, it predicts that the defrosting of the first heat source heat exchanger 18a/second heat source heat exchanger 18b will not be completed within the specified time T1 ( ⁇ maximum Tmax1)/specified time T2 ( ⁇ maximum Tmax2).
- control unit 90 increases the opening degree of the supercooling valve 24 or opens the supercooling valve 24 that was closed.
- control unit 90 measures the time from the start of the first defrost operation, and if it is determined that the first defrost operation has not been completed even after a predetermined time T1' ( ⁇ maximum time Tmax1) has elapsed, or if it measures the time from the start of the second defrost operation, and if it is determined that the second defrost operation has not been completed even after a predetermined time T2' ( ⁇ maximum time Tmax2) has elapsed, it increases the opening of the supercooling valve 24 or opens the supercooling valve 24 that was closed.
- the predetermined time T2' is set shorter than the predetermined time T1', even if liquid refrigerant accumulates in the second heat source heat exchanger 18b, this liquid refrigerant will be more likely to be discharged outside the second heat source heat exchanger 18b, and residual frost in the second heat source heat exchanger 18b will be more likely to be suppressed.
- the air conditioning apparatus 100 includes a refrigerant circuit 40.
- the refrigerant circuit 40 includes a compressor 12, a first heat source heat exchanger 18a, a second heat source heat exchanger 18b, and utilization heat exchangers 52a, 52b.
- the second heat source heat exchanger 18b is disposed below the first heat source heat exchanger 18a and alongside the first heat source heat exchanger 18a.
- the air conditioning apparatus 100 performs a first defrosting operation, which is an example of a first operation, and a second defrosting operation, which is an example of a second operation, in that order to defrost the first heat source heat exchanger 18a and the second heat source heat exchanger 18b.
- the first defrost operation is an operation in which the first heat source heat exchanger 18a functions as a radiator and the second heat source heat exchanger 18b functions as an evaporator to defrost the first heat source heat exchanger 18a.
- the second defrost operation is an operation in which the second heat source heat exchanger 18b functions as a radiator and the first heat source heat exchanger 18a functions as an evaporator to defrost the second heat source heat exchanger 18b.
- the second heat input amount H2 is larger than the first heat input amount H1.
- the first heat input amount H1 is the total heat input amount per unit volume of the heat source heat exchanger supplied to the first heat source heat exchanger 18a during the first defrost operation.
- the second heat input amount H2 is the total heat input amount per unit volume of the heat source heat exchanger supplied to the second heat source heat exchanger 18b during the second defrost operation.
- defrosting is performed in the order of the first heat source heat exchanger 18a located above and the second heat source heat exchanger 18b located below. Therefore, even if water generated by defrosting the first heat source heat exchanger 18a splashes onto the second heat source heat exchanger 18b and causes further frost, this can be removed by the second defrost operation.
- the first rotation speed Ra of the compressor 12 during the second defrost operation is preferably higher than the second rotation speed Rb of the compressor 12 during the first defrost operation.
- the second heat input amount H2 can be made larger than the first heat input amount H1 by adjusting the rotation speed of the compressor 12.
- the air conditioning apparatus 100 includes a first heat source expansion valve 20a as an example of a first valve and a second heat source expansion valve 20b as an example of a second valve.

- the opening degree of the second heat source expansion valve 20b is increased.
- the opening degree of the first heat source expansion valve 20a is increased.
- the predetermined time T2 is shorter than the predetermined time T1.
- first defrost operation if defrosting of the first heat source heat exchanger 18a is not completed within a predetermined time T1 ( ⁇ maximum time Tmax1) (if not completed here, this includes cases where it is expected that it will not be completed), the opening degree of the second heat source expansion valve 20b is increased once the predetermined time T1 has elapsed.
- second defrost operation if defrosting of the first heat source heat exchanger 18a is not completed within a predetermined time T2 ( ⁇ maximum time Tmax2) (if not completed here, this includes cases where it is expected that it will not be completed), the opening degree of the first heat source expansion valve 20a is increased once the predetermined time T2 has elapsed.
- the predetermined time T2 is shorter than the predetermined time T1.
- this air conditioning unit 100 by increasing the opening of the valve corresponding to the heat source heat exchanger that functions as an evaporator, refrigerant flows more easily through the heat source heat exchanger where defrosting is performed, which facilitates the discharge of liquid refrigerant that has accumulated in the heat source heat exchanger where defrosting is performed out of the heat source heat exchanger. As a result, the air conditioning unit 100 can shorten the time required to defrost the heat source heat exchanger and reduce the occurrence of unmelted frost.
- the air conditioning apparatus 100 when defrosting the second heat source heat exchanger 18b, which tends to take a long time to defrost, the first heat source expansion valve 20a is opened earlier (compared to the timing at which the second heat source expansion valve 20b is opened during the first defrost operation), so defrosting of the second heat source heat exchanger 18b can be completed in a relatively short time while minimizing the amount of frost remaining unmelted.

- the subcooling valve 24 that was closed is opened, or the opening degree of the subcooling valve 24 that was open is increased.
- T1' which is an example of a third time
- T2' which is an example of a fourth time
- first defrost operation if defrosting of the first heat source heat exchanger 18a is not completed within a predetermined time T1' ( ⁇ maximum time Tmax1) (if "not completed” here includes cases where it is expected that it will not be completed), the opening degree of the second heat source expansion valve 20b is increased once the predetermined time T1' has elapsed.
- second defrost operation if defrosting of the first heat source heat exchanger 18a is not completed within a predetermined time T2' ( ⁇ maximum time Tmax2) (if "not completed” here includes cases where it is expected that it will not be completed), the opening degree of the first heat source expansion valve 20a is increased once the predetermined time T2' has elapsed.
- the predetermined time T2' is shorter than the predetermined time T1'.
- this air conditioning device 100 In this air conditioning device 100, increasing the opening of the subcooling valve 24 makes it easier for refrigerant to flow through the heat source heat exchanger where defrosting is performed, which tends to promote the discharge of liquid refrigerant that has accumulated in the heat source heat exchanger where defrosting is performed out of the heat source heat exchanger. As a result, this air conditioning device 100 can shorten the time required to defrost the heat source heat exchanger and reduce the occurrence of unmelted frost.
- this air conditioning device 100 when defrosting the second heat source heat exchanger 18b, which tends to take a long time to defrost, the subcooling valve 24 is opened earlier (compared to the timing at which the subcooling valve 24 is opened during the first defrost operation), so defrosting of the second heat source heat exchanger 18b can be completed in a relatively short time while minimizing the amount of unmelted frost.
- the time period for the second defrosting operation may be longer than the time period for the first defrosting operation.

- the maximum time Tmax2 is longer than the first maximum time Tmax1.
- the maximum time Tmax2 can be set longer than the maximum time Tmax1, and the second heat input amount H2 can be set greater than the first heat input amount H1.

Description

(6-9)変形例I
