Description

光検出器
 本開示は、光検出器に関する。
 宇宙線の検出実験や加速器実験といった高エネルギー物理実験には、シングルフォトンを検出可能な光検出器が用いられている。従来の光検出器としては、光電面と、アバランシェフォトダイオードなどの半導体素子とが真空筐体の内部に配置された、いわゆるハイブリッド光検出器(HPD:Hybrid Photo Detector)が挙げられる。ハイブリッド光検出器では、光電面から放出された電子が半導体素子で直接検出されるが、シングルフォトンを検出するために必要なゲインが高く、そのために半導体素子を高電圧で駆動する必要があった。
 半導体光検出素子をより低電圧で駆動するため、光電面から放出された電子を一旦光に変換し、変換された光を半導体光検出素子で検出する光検出器が検討されている。このような光検出器としては、例えば特許文献1に記載の画素センサが挙げられる。この従来の光検出器では、光電面と、表面に蛍光体層が設けられた半導体光検出素子とが真空筐体の内部に配置されている。

 上述した特許文献1のような光検出器では、光電面から放出された電子の一部が真空筐体の内部で反射して反射電子となり得る。真空筐体内には、光電面から放出された電子が蛍光体層に集束するような電界が形成されている。このため、蛍光体層に向かう軌道から外れた反射電子が再び蛍光体層に向かって進行することが考えられる。反射電子が蛍光体層から反れて半導体光検出素子及び周辺の配線部などに衝突すると、半導体光検出素子にダメージが生じてしまうおそれがある。
 本開示は、上記課題の解決のためになされたものであり、真空筐体の内部で発生した反射電子から半導体光検出素子を保護できる光検出器を提供することを目的とする。
 本開示の要旨は、以下に示すとおりである。
 [1]検出対象となる光を入射させる窓部を有する真空筐体と、前記真空筐体の内部に配置され、前記光の入射に応じて電子を放出する第1の光電変換層と、前記真空筐体の内部に配置され、前記第1の光電変換層から放出された前記電子の入射に応じて光を発生させる第2の光電変換層と、前記真空筐体の内部において前記第2の光電変換層を挟んで前記第1の光電変換層の反対側に配置され、前記第2の光電変換層で発生した光を検出する半導体光検出素子と、を備え、前記半導体光検出素子は、前記第2の光電変換層から離間して配置されている、光検出器。
 この光検出器では、半導体光検出素子が第2の光電変換層から離間して配置されている。これにより、第1の光電変換層から放出された電子の一部が真空筐体の内部で反射して反射電子となった場合に、第2の光電変換層に向かう軌道から外れた反射電子が真空筐体内の電界によって再び蛍光体層に向かって進行したとしても、当該反射電子が半導体光検出素子に衝突する可能性を低減できる。したがって、この光検出器では、真空筐体の内部で発生した反射電子から半導体光検出素子を保護できる。
 [2]前記真空筐体の内部には、前記半導体光検出素子を囲む内部筐体が配置されている、[1]記載の光検出器。この場合、半導体光検出素子に向かう反射電子を内部筐体によって物理的にブロックできる。したがって、反射電子が半導体光検出素子に衝突することをより確実に防止できる。
 [3]前記内部筐体によって前記第2の光電変換層からの前記半導体光検出素子の離間長が規定されている、[2]記載の光検出器。この場合、第2の光電変換層と半導体光検出素子との離間長を設計通りに形成できる。したがって、反射電子が半導体光検出素子に衝突する可能性をより確実に低減できる。
 [4]前記内部筐体は、前記真空筐体の内部空間と内部筐体の内部空間とを連通させる孔部を有している、[2]又は[3]記載の光検出器。この場合、真空筐体の真空引きの際に孔部を介して内部筐体の真空引きを同時に実施できる。これにより、真空筐体及び内部筐体の内部の残留ガスに起因する第1の光電変換層の劣化を抑制できる。
 [5]前記半導体光検出素子は、前記内部筐体の底部に配置されており、前記孔部は、前記底部において前記半導体光検出素子の周囲に配置されている、[4]記載の光検出器。このような構成によれば、内部筐体の孔部と半導体光検出素子とを十分に近接させることができる。したがって、内部筐体が孔部を有する場合であっても、反射電子が孔部を通って半導体光検出素子に衝突することを抑制できる。
 [6]前記真空筐体の底部には、前記真空筐体の排気口及び前記第1の光電変換層のアルカリ化に用いるアルカリの導入口となるチップ管が設けられており、前記チップ管は、前記窓部の正面視において、前記内部筐体と重ならない位置に配置されている、[4]又は[5]記載の光検出器。このような構成によれば、内部筐体の孔部とチップ管との間に十分な間隔を形成できる。したがって、内部筐体が孔部を有する場合であっても、チップ管から導入されたアルカリが孔部を通って半導体光検出素子に付着することを抑制できる。このことは、半導体光検出素子へのアルカリの付着に起因するノイズ(暗電流など)の抑制に寄与する。
 [7]前記内部筐体は、導電性材料によって構成されている、[2]~[6]のいずれか記載の光検出器。この場合、内部筐体の内部を無電界環境にでき、反射電子を半導体光検出素子に向かわせるような電界の形成を抑制できる。したがって、反射電子が内部筐体の内部に進行したとしても、反射電子が半導体光検出素子に衝突する可能性を十分に低減できる。
 [8]前記第2の光電変換層において、前記第1の光電変換層側を向く面には、金属層が配置されている、[2]~[7]のいずれか記載の光検出器。この場合、第2の光電変換層で発生した光のうち、第1の光電変換層に向かう成分を金属層で反射させて半導体光検出素子に進行させることができる。したがって、半導体光検出素子での検出光量の向上が図られる。
 [9]前記金属層は、前記内部筐体と電気的に接続されている、[8]記載の光検出器。この場合、内部筐体と共に金属層への給電が可能となる。金属層に給電を行うことで、第1の光電変換層から放出された電子を第2の光電変換層に導く電界を形成する電極として金属層を機能させることができる。
 [10]前記第1の光電変換層の面積は、前記第2の光電変換層の面積よりも大きくなっており、前記第2の光電変換層の面積は、前記半導体光検出素子の面積よりも大きくなっている、[1]~[9]のいずれか記載の光検出器。この場合、半導体光検出素子の面積を小さくすることで、半導体光検出素子の応答特性を向上できる。半導体光検出素子の面積を小さくするにあたっては、光の収集効率の向上のために第1の光電変換層の面積を十分に確保することが必要となるが、第1の光電変換層と半導体光検出素子との間に介在する第2の光電変換層の面積を半導体光検出素子の面積よりも大きくすることで、第1の光電変換層から放出された電子を微小領域に集束させる必要がなくなる。電子軌道の精密制御が不要となることで、光検出器の設計の複雑化を回避できる。
 [11]前記真空筐体は、導電性材料によって構成されており、前記真空筐体の内部には、前記第1の光電変換層から放出された前記電子を前記第2の光電変換層に集束させる集束電極が配置され、前記集束電極は、前記真空筐体と同電位となっている、[1]~[10]のいずれか記載の光検出器。このような構成により、第1の光電変換層から放出された電子を第2の光電変換層に向けて効率良く導くことができる。
 [12]前記第2の光電変換層と前記半導体光検出素子との間には、前記第2の光電変換層で発生した前記光を前記半導体光検出素子に導く導光部材が配置されている、[1]~[11]のいずれか記載の光検出器。この場合、第2の光電変換層で発生した光を半導体光検出素子に向けて効率的に導くことができる。また、真空筐体の内部の残留ガスと電子との衝突によってイオンが生じた場合であっても、第2の光電変換層を通過して半導体光検出素子に向かうイオンを導光部材によって物理的にブロックできる。したがって、イオンの衝突から半導体光検出素子を保護できる。
 本開示によれば、真空筐体の内部で発生した反射電子から半導体光検出素子を保護できる。

 以下、図面を参照しながら、本開示の一側面に係る光検出器の好適な実施形態について詳細に説明する。
 図1は、本開示の一実施形態に係る光検出器の構成を示す模式的な断面図である。図1に示す光検出器1は、例えば宇宙線の検出実験や加速器実験といった高エネルギー物理実験において、シングルフォトンを検出可能な光検出器として構成されている。光検出器1は、図1に示すように、真空筐体2を備えている。真空筐体2の内部には、光電面(第1の光電変換層)3と、蛍光体層(第2の光電変換層)4と、半導体光検出素子5と、内部筐体6と、導光部材7と、集束電極8とが配置されている。
 真空筐体2は、例えば側管11、窓部12、及びステム13によって構成されている。真空筐体2の内部空間S1は、側管11、窓部12、及びステム13によって画成され、真空状態に保たれている。内部空間S1の真空度は、例えば10-6Pa~10-5Pa程度となっている。
 側管11は、真空筐体2のベースとなる部分である。側管11は、例えば軸方向の両端が開口する円筒形状をなしている。側管11の構成材料としては、例えば鉄ニッケル(FeNi)合金、ステンレス(FeCrNi)合金、コバール(FeCoNi)合金、セラミック、ガラスなどが挙げられる。側管11は、導電性材料によって構成されていてもよい。光検出器1が高エネルギー物理実験に用いられる場合において、放射性同位体の存在を排除する必要がある場合には、コバルト(Co)を含まない鉄ニッケル(FeNi)合金を用いることが好ましい。本実施形態では、側管11は、導電性材料である鉄ニッケル(FeNi)合金によって構成されている。
 窓部12は、検出対象となる光L1を真空筐体2内に入射させる部分である。窓部12は、側管11の軸方向の一端を塞ぐように円盤状に設けられている。窓部12の構成材料としては、例えば合成石英などのガラス材料が挙げられる。窓部12と側管11との接合には、例えばアルミニウム(Al)シール或いはロウ材が用いられる。窓部12の構成材料が合成石英である場合、アルミニウム(Al)シールによる熱圧着を行うことが好ましい。
 ステム13は、真空筐体2の底部を構成する部分である。ステム13は、側管11の軸方向の他端を塞ぐように円盤状に設けられている。ステム13の構成材料としては、例えばコバール金属などが挙げられる。ステム13には、複数のステムピン14が挿通している。ステムピン14には、真空筐体2(光電面3)に給電を行う給電ピン14A、半導体光検出素子5に給電を行う給電ピン14B、半導体光検出素子5からの信号を取り出す出力ピン14C、後述の内部筐体6を接地電位とする接地ピン14D、後述の集束電極8に給電を行う給電ピン14Eなどが含まれている。これらのステムピン14とステム13とは、ガラスなどの絶縁材15によって電気的に絶縁されている。
 また、ステム13には、チップ管16が設けられている。チップ管16は、光検出器1の製造工程において、真空筐体2の排気口及び光電面3のアルカリ化に用いるアルカリの導入口として用いられる部分である。チップ管16は、ステムピン14の配置位置よりも外側で側管11寄りの位置に配置されている。これにより、チップ管16は、窓部12の正面視において、内部筐体6と重ならない位置に配置されている。なお、光検出器1のサイズが小さい場合には、チップ管16の配置が省略される場合もある。
 光電面3は、光L1の入射に応じて電子Eを放出する部分である。光電面3は、真空筐体2の内部に配置されている。本実施形態では、光電面3は、窓部12の内面(内部空間S1を臨む面)に円形に設けられている。また、光電面3は、透過型のアルカリ光電面となっている。光電面3に用いられるアルカリとしては、例えばカリウム(K)、セシウム(Cs)、ナトリウム(Na)などが挙げられる。
 蛍光体層4は、光電面3から放出された電子Eの入射に応じて光L2を発生させる部分である。蛍光体層4の形成材料としては、例えばGaNなどの化合物半導体、ZnOなどが挙げられる。蛍光体層4において、光電面3を向く面には、金属層18が配置されている。金属層18の構成材料としては、例えばアルミニウム(Al)が挙げられる。金属層18は、蛍光体層4で発生した光L2のうち、光電面3に向かう成分を金属層18で反射させて半導体光検出素子5に進行させる機能を有している。また、金属層18に給電を行うことで、光電面3から放出された電子Eを蛍光体層4に導く電界を形成する電極としても金属層18を機能させることができる。
 半導体光検出素子5は、蛍光体層4で発生した光L2を検出する部分である。半導体光検出素子5としては、例えばSiPM(Silicon Photomultiplier)、APD(Avalanche Photodiode)、PD(Photodiode)などが挙げられる。半導体光検出素子5は、検出した光L2の光量に応じた信号を出力ピン14Cを介して光検出器1の外部に出力する。
 本実施形態では、光電面3の面積は、蛍光体層4の面積よりも大きくなっており、蛍光体層4の面積は、半導体光検出素子5の面積よりも大きくなっている。すなわち、光電面3の面積をP1、蛍光体層4の面積をP2、半導体光検出素子5の面積をP3とした場合に、P1>P2>P3の関係を満たしている。半導体光検出素子5の面積P3を小さくすることで、半導体光検出素子5の応答特性を向上できる。半導体光検出素子5の面積P3を小さくするにあたっては、光L1の収集効率の向上のために光電面3の面積P1を十分に確保することが必要となるが、光電面3と半導体光検出素子5との間に介在する蛍光体層4の面積P2を半導体光検出素子5の面積P3よりも大きくすることで、光電面3から放出された電子Eを微小領域に集束させる必要がなくなる。電子軌道の精密制御が不要となることで、光検出器1の設計の複雑化を回避できる。
 内部筐体6は、真空筐体2の内部において、半導体光検出素子5を囲むように設けられた筐体である。内部筐体6は、真空筐体2の内部空間S1において、側管11の軸方向の中心部分にステム13寄りに配置されている。内部筐体6の内部空間S2は、当該内部筐体6によって真空筐体2の内部空間S1に対して隔てられている。内部筐体6は、例えば導電性材料によって構成されている。導電性材料としては、真空筐体2の側管11と同様、例えば(FeNi)合金などが挙げられる。光検出器1が高エネルギー物理実験に用いられる場合において、放射性同位体の存在を排除する必要がある場合には、コバルト(Co)を含まない鉄ニッケル(FeNi)合金を用いることが好ましい。
 内部筐体6は、例えば側管21、窓部22、底部23によって構成されている。側管21は、例えば半導体光検出素子5に対して一回り大きな径を有する円筒形状をなしている。窓部22は、側管21の一端(光電面3を向く端)に設けられている。窓部22の中央部分には、側管21の内部に向かって突出する内向きの筒状部24が設けられている。筒状部24は、例えば側管21の内部に向かうにつれて徐々に径が小さくなるように形成されている。筒状部24の一端(光電面3を向く端)及び他端(半導体光検出素子5を向く端)はいずれも開口している。筒状部24の一端側の開口のサイズは、例えば半導体光検出素子5のサイズと同程度となっている。筒状部24を光電面3側から見た場合に、筒状部24を通して半導体光検出素子5が見えるようになっている。
 上述した蛍光体層4は、筒状部24の一端の開口を塞ぐように、内部筐体6の窓部22の外面に接合されている。また、蛍光体層4に設けられた金属層18は、蛍光体層4の縁よりも外側に張り出し、内部筐体6の窓部22に接合されている。蛍光体層4と窓部22との接合及び金属層18と窓部22との接合には、例えば導電性接着剤を用いることができる。したがって、蛍光体層4と内部筐体6とは互いに電気的に接続されており、金属層18と内部筐体6とは互いに電気的に接続されている。
 底部23は、側管21の他端(ステム13を向く端)を塞ぐように円盤状に設けられている。底部23には、上述した給電ピン14B、出力ピン14Cが挿通している。これらのステムピン14と底部23とは、ガラスなどの絶縁材25によって電気的に絶縁されている。また、底部23には、上述した接地ピン14Dが電気的に接続されている。底部23の内面には、蛍光体層4と側管11の軸方向に離間した状態で、上述した半導体光検出素子5が配置されている。半導体光検出素子5は、筒状部24を介して蛍光体層4と対向するように、底部23の内面の中央部分に接合されている。半導体光検出素子5は、底部23に挿通された給電ピン14B及び出力ピン14Cに電気的に接続されている。
 蛍光体層4と半導体光検出素子5との離間長Tは、内部筐体6によって規定されている。図1の例では、離間長Tは、蛍光体層4における半導体光検出素子5側の面と半導体光検出素子5における蛍光体層4側の面との間の距離であり、主として側管11の軸方向の長さを調整することで規定されている。半導体光検出素子5と底部23との接合には、例えば無機系の接着剤を用いることができる。接着剤は、導電性接着剤及び非導電性接着剤のいずれであってもよい。接着剤の一例としては、例えばナノ銀ペーストといったナノ金属ペーストが挙げられる。ナノ金属ペーストを接合領域に塗布して焼成することで、溶剤が揮発して金属ナノ粒子が残り、金属ナノ粒子同士が凝集・溶融することで、被接合材同士を接合できる。
 内部筐体6は、真空筐体2の内部空間S1と内部筐体6の内部空間S2とを連通させる孔部26を有している。孔部26により、内部筐体6の内部空間S2の真空度は、真空筐体2の内部空間S1の真空度と同程度となっている。本実施形態では、孔部26は、底部23において半導体光検出素子5の周囲に配置されている。孔部26の配置数に特に制限はないが、半導体光検出素子5の周囲に所定の位相角をもって複数の孔部26が配置されていてもよい。孔部26の位置は、例えば給電ピン14B及び出力ピン14Cの挿通位置よりも中央側となっている。これにより、孔部26の位置は、窓部12の正面視において、給電ピン14B及び出力ピン14Cの挿通位置よりも半導体光検出素子5に近接した状態となっている。
 導光部材7は、蛍光体層4で発生した光L2を半導体光検出素子5に導く部分である。導光部材7は、蛍光体層4と半導体光検出素子5との間に配置されている。本実施形態では、導光部材7は、内部筐体6の筒状部24内に配置されている。導光部材7には、種々の構成を適用し得る。導光部材7は、例えば表面にアルミニウム(Al)膜などの光反射膜が蒸着された合成石英によって構成されていてもよく、筒状部24の内壁面に形成された金属反射板によって構成されていてもよい。蛍光体層4からの光L2が十分な光量で半導体光検出素子5に進行する場合には、導光部材7の配置を省略してもよい。この場合、筒状部24を省略し、窓部22に単純な開口を設ける構成としてもよい。
 集束電極8は、光電面3から放出された電子Eを蛍光体層4に集束させるための電界を形成する部分である。集束電極8は、例えば円形の枠状をなしており、窓部12の蛍光体層4よりも僅かに光電面3に近い位置で蛍光体層4を囲むように配置されている。集束電極8には、上述した給電ピン14Eが電気的に接続されている。集束電極8の構成材料としては、例えば鉄ニッケル(FeNi)合金、ステンレス(FeCrNi)合金、コバール(FeCoNi)合金などが挙げられる。光電面3のサイズが蛍光体層4のサイズに対してそれほど大きくない場合には、集束電極8の配置を省略してもよい。この場合は、給電ピン14Eも併せて省略可能である。
 上記光検出器1において光L1の検出を行う場合、給電ピン14Aを介して真空筐体2(光電面3)に負の高電圧(例えば-3kV程度)を印加し、給電ピン14Bを介して半導体光検出素子5に駆動電圧(例えば数十~数百kV程度)を印加する。また、給電ピン14Eを介して集束電極8に真空筐体2(光電面3)と同程度の負の高電圧を印加する。接地ピン14Dに電気的に接続されている内部筐体6、蛍光体層4、金属層18は、いずれも接地電位となる。
 この状態で光検出器1の窓部12に検出対象となる光L1が入射すると、当該光L1の入射に応じて光電面3から電子Eが放出される。光電面3から放出された電子Eは、集束電極8及び金属層18の協働によって形成される電界によって蛍光体層4に導かれる。蛍光体層4に電子Eが入射すると、当該電子Eの入射に応じて蛍光体層4で光L2が発生する。蛍光体層4で発生した光L2は、導光部材7によって導かれ、半導体光検出素子5に入射する。半導体光検出素子5では、検出した光L2の光量に応じた信号が生成される。当該信号は、出力ピン14Cを介して光検出器1の外部に出力される。なお、光検出器1に印加する電圧の極性はこの限りではなく、光電面3から放出された電子Eが蛍光体層4に向かう関係が成立するものであればよい。例えば蛍光体層4の電位が光電面3に対して相対的に正の電位となっていればよい。
 光検出器1の動作において、光電面3から放出された電子Eの一部は、真空筐体2の内部(例えば蛍光体層4の表面など)で反射して反射電子Erとなり得る。真空筐体2内には、集束電極8及び金属層18の協働により、光電面3から放出された電子が蛍光体層に集束するような電界が形成されている。このため、蛍光体層4に向かう軌道から外れた反射電子Erが再び蛍光体層4に向かって進行することが考えられる。反射電子Erが蛍光体層4から反れて半導体光検出素子5及び周辺の配線部などに衝突すると、半導体光検出素子5にダメージが生じてしまうおそれがある。
 これに対し、光検出器1では、半導体光検出素子5が蛍光体層4から離間して配置されている。これにより、光電面3から放出された電子Eの一部が真空筐体2の内部で反射して反射電子Erとなった場合に、蛍光体層4に向かう軌道から外れた反射電子Erが真空筐体2内の電界によって再び蛍光体層4に向かって進行したとしても、当該反射電子Erが半導体光検出素子5に衝突する可能性を低減できる。したがって、光検出器1では、真空筐体2の内部で発生した反射電子Erから半導体光検出素子5を保護できる。
 本実施形態では、真空筐体2の内部には、半導体光検出素子5を囲む内部筐体6が配置されている。これにより、半導体光検出素子5に向かう反射電子Erを内部筐体6によって物理的にブロックできる。したがって、反射電子Erが半導体光検出素子5に衝突することをより確実に防止できる。
 本実施形態では、内部筐体6によって蛍光体層4からの半導体光検出素子5の離間長Tが規定されている。このような構成によれば、蛍光体層4と半導体光検出素子5との離間長を設計通りに形成できる。したがって、反射電子Erが半導体光検出素子5に衝突する可能性をより確実に低減できる。
 本実施形態では、内部筐体6は、真空筐体2の内部空間S1と内部筐体6の内部空間S2とを連通させる孔部26を有している。これにより、真空筐体2の真空引きの際に孔部26を介して内部筐体6の真空引きを同時に実施できる。これにより、真空筐体2及び内部筐体6の内部の残留ガスに起因する光電面3の劣化を抑制できる。
 本実施形態では、半導体光検出素子5は、内部筐体6の底部23に配置されており、孔部26は、底部23において半導体光検出素子5の周囲に配置されている。このような構成によれば、内部筐体6の孔部26と半導体光検出素子5とを十分に近接させることができる。したがって、内部筐体6が孔部26を有する場合であっても、反射電子Erが孔部26を通って半導体光検出素子5に衝突することを抑制できる。
 本実施形態では、真空筐体2の底部23には、真空筐体2の排気口及び光電面3のアルカリ化に用いるアルカリの導入口となるチップ管16が設けられている。そして、チップ管16は、窓部12の正面視において、内部筐体6と重ならない位置に配置されている。このような構成によれば、内部筐体6の孔部26とチップ管16との間に十分な間隔を形成できる。したがって、内部筐体6が孔部26を有する場合であっても、チップ管16から導入されたアルカリが孔部26を通って半導体光検出素子5に付着することを抑制できる。このことは、半導体光検出素子5へのアルカリの付着に起因するノイズ(暗電流など)の抑制に寄与する。
 本実施形態では、内部筐体6は、導電性材料によって構成されている。これにより、内部筐体6の内部を無電界環境にでき、反射電子Erを半導体光検出素子5に向かわせるような電界の形成を抑制できる。したがって、反射電子Erが内部筐体6の内部に進行したとしても、反射電子Erが半導体光検出素子5に衝突する可能性を十分に低減できる。
 本実施形態では、蛍光体層4において、光電面3側を向く面には、金属層18が配置されている。これにより、蛍光体層4で発生した光のうち、光電面3に向かう成分を金属層18で反射させて半導体光検出素子5に進行させることができる。したがって、半導体光検出素子5での検出光量の向上が図られる。
 本実施形態では、金属層18は、内部筐体6と電気的に接続されている。これにより、内部筐体6と共に金属層18への給電が可能となる。金属層18に給電を行うことで、光電面3から放出された電子Eを蛍光体層4に導く電界を形成する電極として金属層18を機能させることができる。
 本実施形態では、光電面3の面積P1は、蛍光体層4の面積P2よりも大きくなっており、蛍光体層4の面積P2は、半導体光検出素子5の面積P3よりも大きくなっている。この場合、半導体光検出素子5の面積P3を小さくすることで、半導体光検出素子5の応答特性を向上できる。半導体光検出素子5の面積P3を小さくするにあたっては、光L1の収集効率の向上のために光電面3の面積P1を十分に確保することが必要となるが、光電面3と半導体光検出素子5との間に介在する蛍光体層4の面積P2を半導体光検出素子5の面積P3よりも大きくすることで、光電面3から放出された電子Eを微小領域に集束させる必要がなくなる。電子軌道の精密制御が不要となることで、光検出器1の設計の複雑化を回避できる。
 本実施形態では、真空筐体2は、導電性材料によって構成されている。真空筐体2の内部には、光電面3から放出された電子Eを蛍光体層4に集束させる集束電極8が配置され、集束電極8は、真空筐体2と同電位となっている。このような構成により、光電面3から放出された電子Eを蛍光体層4に向けて効率良く導くことができる。また、簡易な構成でこのような技術的効果を実現できる。なお、集束電極8と真空筐体2とは、必ずしも同電位である必要は無く、互いに異なる電位が付与されていてもよい。この場合、より精密な電子軌道の制御が可能となる。
 本実施形態では、蛍光体層4と半導体光検出素子5との間には、蛍光体層4で発生した光L2を半導体光検出素子5に導く導光部材7が配置されている。導光部材7を用いることで、蛍光体層4で発生した光L2を半導体光検出素子5に向けて効率的に導くことができる。また、真空筐体2の内部の残留ガスと電子Eとの衝突によってイオンが生じた場合であっても、蛍光体層4を通過して半導体光検出素子5に向かうイオンを導光部材7によって物理的にブロックできる。したがって、イオンの衝突から半導体光検出素子5を保護できる。
 残留ガスと電子Eとの衝突によって発生するイオンは、光検出器1における不具合の要因となり得る。例えば負に帯電したイオン(負イオン)が発生した場合、光電面3から放出された電子Eが蛍光体層4に向かう軌道と同じ軌道で半導体光検出素子5に衝突することが考えられる。この場合、蛍光体層4或いは半導体光検出素子5がダメージを受け、特性が低下してしまうおそれがある。イオン化しないものであっても、残留ガスとして水や炭化水素等が半導体光検出素子5に付着すると、特性が低下することが生じ得る。したがって、導光部材7によって半導体光検出素子5を物理的に保護することで、半導体光検出素子5の特性の劣化を抑制できる。
 続いて、本開示の実施例について説明する。
 図2(a)、図2(b)、図3(a)、図3(b)は、光電面から蛍光体層に向かう電子軌道のシミュレーション結果を示す図である。図2(a)及び図2(b)では、上述した光検出器1と同等の構成を有する光検出器において、光電面の直径を3インチとし、蛍光体層の直径を変化させた場合に、光電面から放出された電子が蛍光体層に入射する確率を算出した。ここでは、光電面及び集束電極に印加する電圧を-2kVとし、蛍光体層を接地電位とした。その結果、蛍光体層の直径が6mmの場合は、蛍光体層への電子の入射確率が75%未満であったが、蛍光体層の直径が8mm以上の場合は、蛍光体層への電子の入射確率がいずれも90%を超えていた。図3(a)及び図3(b)では、光電面及び集束電極に印加する電圧を-3kVとし、その他の条件は、図2(a)及び図2(b)と同じとした。その結果、蛍光体層の直径が6mmの場合は、蛍光体層への電子の入射確率が75%未満であったが、蛍光体層の直径が8mm以上の場合は、蛍光体層への電子の入射確率がいずれも90%を超えていた。
 これらの結果から、光電面から放出された電子を蛍光体層で一旦光に変換する場合には、-2kV~-3kV程度の印加電圧で蛍光体層に電子を高い効率で入射させることができることが分かる。電子を半導体光検出素子の微細領域に直接集束させる場合では、シングルの電子を検出するために必要なゲインが1×10程度であり、半導体検出素子に印加する電圧も10kV程度必要となるが、本開示のように光電面と半導体光検出素子との間に蛍光体層を介在させる構成では、より低電圧での駆動が可能となる。
 図4(a)及び図4(b)は、蛍光体層の表面で生じた反射電子の軌道のシミュレーション結果を示す図である。このシミュレーションでは、蛍光体層の半分部分(図4(a)における右半分部分)で生じた反射電子の軌道を算出した。ここでは、反射電子の初期軌道として、図4(a)に示すように、蛍光体層4の表面から垂直に進行するもの(反射電子A)、蛍光体層4の表面に垂直な方向から30°傾斜して進行するもの(反射電子B)、蛍光体層4の表面に垂直な方向から60°傾斜して進行するもの(反射電子C)を設定した。
 図4(b)に示すように、反射電子Aは、光電面の中央付近に向かって進行した後、蛍光体層に向けて反転し、主に蛍光体層の左半分部分に向かう軌道となった。反射電子Bは、光電面の縁部付近に向かって進行した後、蛍光体層に向けて反転し、主に蛍光体層の右半分部分に向かう軌道となった。反射電子Cのうち蛍光体層4の表面に垂直な方向から60°右側に傾斜して進行した電子は、光電面に向かって凸となるようなカーブを描いて蛍光体層に戻り、主に蛍光体層の右半分部分及び内部筐体の右側面部分に向かう軌道となった。反射電子Cのうち蛍光体層4の表面に垂直な方向から60°左側に傾斜して進行した電子は、主に内部筐体の左半分部分及び裏面に向かう軌道となった。
 これらの結果から、半導体光検出素子を第2の光電変換層から離間して配置する構成により、反射電子が半導体光検出素子に衝突する可能性を低減できることが確認できた。また、半導体光検出素子を囲む内部筐体を真空筐体内に配置する構成により、半導体光検出素子に向かう反射電子を内部筐体によって物理的にブロックでき、半導体光検出素子を好適に保護できることが確認できた。

Claims (12)

  1.  検出対象となる光を入射させる窓部を有する真空筐体と、
     前記真空筐体の内部に配置され、前記光の入射に応じて電子を放出する第1の光電変換層と、
     前記真空筐体の内部に配置され、前記第1の光電変換層から放出された前記電子の入射に応じて光を発生させる第2の光電変換層と、
     前記真空筐体の内部において前記第2の光電変換層を挟んで前記第1の光電変換層の反対側に配置され、前記第2の光電変換層で発生した光を検出する半導体光検出素子と、を備え、
     前記半導体光検出素子は、前記第2の光電変換層から離間して配置されている、光検出器。
  2.  前記真空筐体の内部には、前記半導体光検出素子を囲む内部筐体が配置されている、請求項1記載の光検出器。
  3.  前記内部筐体によって前記第2の光電変換層からの前記半導体光検出素子の離間長が規定されている、請求項2記載の光検出器。
  4.  前記内部筐体は、前記真空筐体の内部空間と内部筐体の内部空間とを連通させる孔部を有している、請求項2又は3記載の光検出器。
  5.  前記半導体光検出素子は、前記内部筐体の底部に配置されており、
     前記孔部は、前記底部において前記半導体光検出素子の周囲に配置されている、請求項4記載の光検出器。
  6.  前記真空筐体の底部には、前記真空筐体の排気口及び前記第1の光電変換層のアルカリ化に用いるアルカリの導入口となるチップ管が設けられており、
     前記チップ管は、前記窓部の正面視において、前記内部筐体と重ならない位置に配置されている、請求項4又は5記載の光検出器。
  7.  前記内部筐体は、導電性材料によって構成されている、請求項2~6のいずれか一項記載の光検出器。
  8.  前記第2の光電変換層において、前記第1の光電変換層を向く面には、金属層が配置されている、請求項2~7のいずれか一項記載の光検出器。
  9.  前記金属層は、前記内部筐体と電気的に接続されている、請求項8記載の光検出器。
  10.  前記第1の光電変換層の面積は、前記第2の光電変換層の面積よりも大きくなっており、
     前記第2の光電変換層の面積は、前記半導体光検出素子の面積よりも大きくなっている、請求項1~9のいずれか一項記載の光検出器。
  11.  前記真空筐体は、導電性材料によって構成されており、
     前記真空筐体の内部には、前記第1の光電変換層から放出された前記電子を前記第2の光電変換層に集束させる集束電極が配置され、
     前記集束電極は、前記真空筐体と同電位となっている、請求項1~10のいずれか一項記載の光検出器。
  12.  前記第2の光電変換層と前記半導体光検出素子との間には、前記第2の光電変換層で発生した前記光を前記半導体光検出素子に導く導光部材が配置されている、請求項1~11のいずれか一項記載の光検出器。
