Definitions

  • the present invention relates to a heat sink equipped with a base portion thermally connected to a heat generating element and heat dissipation fins, and in particular to a heat sink in which a heat transfer member housed in the base portion is covered with a cover portion.
  • Heat sinks with heat dissipation fins on the base to which the heat source is thermally connected are sometimes used as a means of cooling heat-generating elements such as electronic components installed in a given space. Furthermore, as various devices become more sophisticated, the amount of heat generated by the electronic components and other heat-generating elements installed in the devices increases, making it increasingly important to improve the cooling performance of heat sinks.
  • heat pipes are provided in the planar direction of the base of the heat sink, and the heat transport function of the heat pipes is used to transport heat from the heat-generating element to the entire area of the base where the heat dissipation fins are provided.
  • Patent Document 1 claims that by embedding a heat pipe in the base, which is formed integrally with the heat dissipation fins, and mounting heat-generating electronic components on the base, heat diffusion from the heat-generating electronic components is promoted throughout the base, preventing localized heat concentration on the base, and enabling effective heat dissipation by the heat dissipation fins, which are formed integrally with the base.
  • shielding sections which are recesses corresponding to the position and shape of the electronic components, are sometimes formed on the heat-receiving surface of the base of the heat sink, and the electronic components are housed in the shielding sections, thereby shielding the electronic components mounted on the board.
  • a shielding section is provided on the heat-receiving surface of the base of the heat sink, when a heat transfer component, such as a heat pipe, is installed on the base member, the heat transfer component must be positioned so as to avoid the shielding section along the surface direction of the base member.
  • Patent Document 1 in which heat pipes are embedded along grooves formed on the heat-receiving surface of the base and heat-generating elements are thermally connected to these heat pipes, the provision of a shield on the heat-receiving surface of the base reduces the degree of freedom in arranging heat transfer components such as heat pipes, making it impossible to uniformly heat the entire base, which is thermally connected to a large number of heat-generating elements arranged in a complex manner. Therefore, Patent Document 1 is unable to uniformly distribute the thermal load across the entire heat dissipation fin, resulting in problems in improving the heat dissipation characteristics of the heat sink.
  • the present invention aims to provide a heat sink that reduces the thickness of the base portion, increases the fin area of the heat dissipation fins, and provides excellent temperature uniformity throughout the base portion by allowing for excellent freedom in the placement of the heat transfer member.
  • the gist of the configuration of the present invention is as follows. • this aspect of the heat sink of the present invention allows the fin area of the heat dissipation fins to be increased even when the heat sink is installed in a small space, and is excellent at uniformly heating the entire base portion. Description
