Definitions
- the present disclosure relates to a battery cell.
- the present disclosure relates to a battery cell having an openable vent hole.
- the pressure inside the battery cell may increase. If the pressure inside the battery cell increases, the vent plate of the battery cell may break, causing the gas inside the battery cell to be released. This can prevent an explosion of the battery cell.
- vent plate is mainly formed of a metal plate, it may be difficult for the vent plate to return to its original shape when the vent plate is broken. In other words, when the vent plate is broken, the battery cell may remain open.
- the vent hole can be resealed after it has been opened.
- an extinguishing agent can be provided inside the case when the vent hole is resealed.
- the vent plate can be fractured into a pointed shape.
- a battery cell includes an electrode assembly, a case that accommodates the electrode assembly and forms a vent hole in an upper portion, and a venting portion coupled to the vent hole, wherein the venting portion includes a cap coupled to the case that opens and closes an upper portion of the vent hole and a vent plate coupled to the case that seals a lower portion of the vent hole, wherein when the case is in a first state, the vent plate opens a lower portion of the vent hole and the cap opens an upper portion of the vent hole, and when the case is in a second state, the cap can seal an upper portion of the vent hole.
- a cap may be provided that re-seals the vent hole after the vent hole has been opened.
- an extinguishing agent can be provided inside the case when the vent hole is resealed.
