- This disclosure relates to a connection structure for a coaxial connector.
- Patent Document 1 discloses a connection structure between a coaxial connector and a mating coaxial connector. When both connectors are connected, the movable housing part is located between the connection part of the center contact and the elastic contact piece part of the outer contact. Also, when both connectors are connected, the insulator faces the movable housing part.
- Patent Document 1 The movable housing part and insulator of Patent Document 1 are thought to function as a dielectric between the inner conductor and the outer conductor.
- Patent Document 1 assumes a configuration in which the insulator approaches the movable housing part in close proximity to the movable housing part, and is thought to be designed in a shape that can obtain the desired communication performance.
- the present disclosure therefore aims to provide stable communication performance even if the connection position of the second coaxial connector relative to the first coaxial connector is misaligned.
- the coaxial connector connection structure disclosed herein is a coaxial connector connection structure in which a first coaxial connector and a second coaxial connector are connected, the first coaxial connector includes a first inner conductor, a first outer conductor surrounding the outer periphery of the first inner conductor, and a first dielectric located between the first inner conductor and the first outer conductor, the second coaxial connector includes a second inner conductor, a second outer conductor surrounding the outer periphery of the second inner conductor, and a second dielectric located between the second inner conductor and the second outer conductor, and when a portion where the first inner conductor and the second inner conductor overlap in the connection direction of the first coaxial connector and the second coaxial connector in a connected state of the first coaxial connector and the second coaxial connector is defined as an inner overlap portion, and a portion where the first outer conductor and the second outer conductor overlap in the connection direction is defined as an outer overlap portion, both the first dielectric and the second dielectric are positioned to avoid both the inner overlap portion and the outer overlap portion

- FIG. 4 is an exploded perspective view showing the above connecting structure.
- FIG. 5 is an enlarged cross-sectional view of FIG.
- FIG. 6 is a partially cutaway perspective view showing a fixing portion of the first inner conductor to the first dielectric.
- FIG. 7 is a perspective view showing another state of the connection structure of the coaxial connector.
- FIG. 8 is a perspective view showing still another state of the connection structure of the coaxial connector.
- connection structure of the coaxial connector disclosed herein is as follows:
- a coaxial connector connection structure in which a first coaxial connector and a second coaxial connector are connected the first coaxial connector includes a first inner conductor, a first outer conductor surrounding the outer periphery of the first inner conductor, and a first dielectric located between the first inner conductor and the first outer conductor
- the second coaxial connector includes a second inner conductor, a second outer conductor surrounding the outer periphery of the second inner conductor, and a second dielectric located between the second inner conductor and the second outer conductor, and when a portion where the first inner conductor and the second inner conductor overlap in the connection direction of the first coaxial connector and the second coaxial connector in a connected state of the first coaxial connector and the second coaxial connector is defined as an inner overlap portion, and a portion where the first outer conductor and the second outer conductor overlap in the connection direction is defined as an outer overlap portion, both the first dielectric and the second dielectric are positioned to avoid both the inner overlap portion and the outer overlap portion in the connection direction.
- both the first and second dielectrics are positioned to avoid both the inner overlapping portion and the outer overlapping portion in the connection direction. Therefore, in the connection structure of the coaxial connectors, the first and second coaxial connectors can be designed so that the desired communication performance is obtained, assuming that air is present between the inner overlapping portion and the outer overlapping portion. In this case, even if the connection position of the second coaxial connector relative to the first coaxial connector is shifted, only the length of the air intervening portion changes in the connection direction. Stable communication performance is obtained compared to when each coaxial connector is designed assuming that a dielectric is present in most parts between the inner overlapping portion and the outer overlapping portion.
- the first dielectric may be located closer to the base end of each of the first inner conductor and the first outer conductor than both the inner overlapping portion and the outer overlapping portion in the connection direction
- the second dielectric may be located closer to the base end of each of the second inner conductor and the second outer conductor than both the inner overlapping portion and the outer overlapping portion in the connection direction.
- the first dielectric can maintain a constant positional relationship between the first inner conductor and the first outer conductor closer to the base end of each of the first inner conductor and the first outer conductor than both the inner overlapping portion and the outer overlapping portion.
- the second dielectric can maintain a constant positional relationship between the second inner conductor and the second outer conductor closer to the base end of each of the second inner conductor and the second outer conductor than both the inner overlapping portion and the outer overlapping portion. This makes it easier to maintain the coaxial state of the coaxial connector while providing an air layer, resulting in stable communication performance.
- a maximum allowable length is set for each of the inner overlap portion and the outer overlap portion in the connection direction, and both the first dielectric and the second dielectric may be positioned to avoid both the inner overlap portion and the outer overlap portion when they reach their respective maximum allowable lengths.
- the second coaxial connector is overconnected within the tolerance range relative to the first coaxial connector, it is expected that the inner overlap portion and the outer overlap portion will each reach their maximum allowable length. Even in this case, stable communication performance is obtained because air is present between the inner overlap portion and the outer overlap portion.

- the first dielectric is likely to be positioned to avoid both the inner overlapping portion and the outer overlapping portion.
- a connection structure of a coaxial connector according to any one of (1) to (4), wherein the second inner conductor includes a second inner conductor tube portion and a second inner conductor extension tube portion, the second outer conductor includes a second outer conductor tube portion and a second outer conductor extension tube portion, the second inner conductor tube portion is a portion connected to the first inner conductor, the second outer conductor tube portion is a portion connected to the first outer conductor, the second outer conductor tube portion is arranged coaxially around the second inner conductor tube portion, and the second dielectric may be arranged between the second inner conductor extension tube portion and the second outer conductor extension tube portion in the connection direction, avoiding a gap between the second inner conductor tube portion and the second outer conductor tube portion.
- a connection structure of a coaxial connector according to any one of (1) to (4), wherein the first inner conductor includes a first inner conductor tube portion and a first inner conductor elastic piece protruding from a tip of the first inner conductor tube portion, the first outer conductor includes a first outer conductor tube portion and a first outer conductor elastic piece protruding from a tip of the first outer conductor tube portion, the second inner conductor includes a second inner conductor tube portion with which the first inner conductor elastic piece is in elastic contact, the second outer conductor includes a second outer conductor tube portion with which the first outer conductor elastic piece is in elastic contact, the first inner conductor elastic piece is in elastic contact with an inner peripheral surface of the second inner conductor tube portion, and the first outer conductor elastic piece may be in elastic contact with an outer peripheral surface of the second outer conductor tube portion.
- a connection structure of a coaxial connector according to any one of (1) to (6), wherein the first inner conductor includes a positioning piece that protrudes outward from the outer peripheral surface of the base end of the first inner conductor and extends along the central axis of the first inner conductor, and the first dielectric is formed with an insertion hole into which the base end of the first inner conductor is inserted and a positioning groove into which the positioning piece is fitted, and the first inner conductor is fixed in an inserted state in the first dielectric by fitting the positioning piece into the positioning groove with the base end of the first inner conductor inserted into the insertion hole.
- the protruding end of the positioning piece may be formed with a stopper protrusion that hooks onto the first dielectric inside the positioning groove.
- the anti-slip projection on the protruding end of the positioning piece catches on the first dielectric inside the positioning groove, making it difficult for the first inner conductor to come out of the first dielectric.
- a retaining annular protrusion that protrudes annularly toward the tip side of the first inner conductor may be formed on the portion of the first dielectric that surrounds the insertion hole.
- the first inner conductor can also be held by the retaining annular protrusion, so the first inner conductor is held more firmly.
- connection structure of a coaxial connector according to any one of (7) to (9), wherein an outer peripheral portion of the first dielectric on the side of the first outer conductor may be formed with an outer peripheral annular protrusion that protrudes in an annular shape toward the tip side of the first inner conductor.
- the outer peripheral annular convex portion comes into contact with the first outer conductor, which tends to stabilize the position of the first outer conductor relative to the first dielectric. This stabilizes the positional relationship between the first inner conductor and the first outer conductor, which tends to stabilize communication performance.

- the second outer conductor 90 is disposed on the outer periphery of the second dielectric 72.
- the second outer conductor 90 is formed from a conductive material such as metal, and surrounds the second dielectric 72.
- the second outer conductor 90 is formed, for example, by pressing a metal plate.
- the second outer conductor 90 comprises a second outer conductor tube portion 92 and a second outer conductor extension tube portion 96.
- the second outer conductor tube portion 92 is formed in a tubular shape, more specifically, in a cylindrical shape.
- the open end of the second outer conductor tube portion 92 faces the first coaxial connector 40.
- the second outer conductor tube portion 92 is the portion that is connected to the first outer conductor 60.
- the second outer conductor tube portion 92 is positioned on the outer periphery side of the second inner conductor tube portion 82 with a gap therebetween.
- the outer diameter of the second outer conductor tube portion 92 is larger than the outer diameter of an imaginary circle connecting the tops of the multiple first outer conductor elastic pieces 66.
- the multiple first outer conductor elastic pieces 66 can elastically contact the outer periphery surface of the second outer conductor tube portion 92 while elastically deforming outward.
- the second outer conductor tube portion 92 is longer than the first outer conductor elastic piece 66.
- the first outer conductor 60 and the second outer conductor 90 can be connected by the top of the curved portion 66b of the first outer conductor elastic piece 66 contacting any position on the outer circumferential surface of the second outer conductor tube portion 92. This makes it possible to accommodate misalignment between the first outer conductor 60 and the second outer conductor 90 in the direction of the central axis X.
- the second outer conductor extension tube portion 96 is located on the opposite side of the second outer conductor tube portion 92 from the first coaxial connector 40. In this embodiment, the second outer conductor extension tube portion 96 is thinner than the second outer conductor tube portion 92.
- the second outer conductor extension tube portion 96 is connected to the second outer conductor tube portion 92 via a tapered portion 91.
- the tapered portion 91 is a tapered portion that gradually becomes thinner from the second outer conductor tube portion 92 toward the second outer conductor extension tube portion 96.
- the second outer conductor extension tube portion may be connected to the second outer conductor tube portion via a step portion.
- the second outer conductor extension tube portion 96 may have an elastic piece 97 that protrudes toward the tip side.
- the elastic piece 97 is configured to be elastically deformable in the inward and outward directions.
- the external connection outer conductor 36 is fitted onto the outer periphery of the multiple elastic pieces 97 from the tip side of the multiple elastic pieces 97.
- the multiple elastic pieces 97 are elastically pressed against the inner peripheral surface of the external connection outer conductor 36, thereby connecting the second outer conductor 90 to the external connection outer conductor 36.
- the second outer conductor extension tube portion 96 may be formed with a partial locking piece 96a that can be locked to the second dielectric 72.
- connection direction between the first coaxial connector 40 and the second coaxial connector 70 is along the central axis X of the first coaxial connector 40 and the second coaxial connector 70.
- the portion where the first inner conductor 50 and the second inner conductor 80 overlap is the inner overlap portion E1 (see FIG. 5).
- the portion where the first outer conductor 60 and the second outer conductor 90 overlap is the outer overlap portion E2 (see FIG. 5).
- the first dielectric 42 and the second dielectric 72 are both positioned in the connection direction, avoiding both the inner overlapping portion E1 and the outer overlapping portion E2.
- the first dielectric 42 is positioned closer to the base end of each of the first inner conductor 50 and the first outer conductor 60 than both the inner overlapping portion E1 and the outer overlapping portion E2.
- the second dielectric 72 is positioned closer to the base end of each of the second inner conductor 80 and the second outer conductor 90 than both the inner overlapping portion E1 and the outer overlapping portion E2.
- the conductor located on the outermost side is the second inner conductor tube portion 82 of the second inner conductor 80.
- the conductor located on the innermost side is the second outer conductor tube portion 92 of the second outer conductor 90.
- the first dielectric 42 and the second dielectric 72 are not interposed, but an air layer is interposed.
- the inner overlapping portion E1 and the outer overlapping portion E2 can be designed so that the desired communication performance is obtained, assuming the interposition of an air layer.
- the first inner conductor 50 having the first inner conductor elastic piece 56 is located inside the second inner conductor tube portion 82, and the first outer conductor 60 having the first outer conductor elastic piece 66 is located outside the second outer conductor tube portion 92. Therefore, when designing the connection structure 28 of the coaxial connector, the inner overlapping portion E1 and the outer overlapping portion E2 can be designed so as to obtain the desired communication performance, assuming the outer diameter of the second inner conductor tube portion 82 with a continuous uniform diameter portion and the outer diameter of the second outer conductor tube portion 92 with a continuous uniform diameter portion. This makes the design easier than when designing based on the assumption of the presence of a complex elastic piece shape.
- the distance L1 between the first coaxial connector 40 and the coaxial connector for external connection 30 may vary within the tolerance range.
- Figure 7 shows a cross-sectional view of the case where the distance between the first coaxial connector 40 and the external coaxial connector 30 is the largest within the tolerance range, at distance Lmax.
- the distance between the second inner conductor 80 and the first dielectric 42 increases, and the distance between the second outer conductor 90 and the first dielectric 42 also increases.
- the area in which an air layer is present between the inner and outer conductors in the connection structure 28 increases.
- the first coaxial connector 40 and the second coaxial connector 70 are designed on the premise that an air layer is present between the inner overlapping portion E1 and the outer overlapping portion E2. Therefore, even if the air layer increases proportionally, it is unlikely to affect communication performance.
- each connector would be designed to obtain the desired communication performance assuming the presence of the dielectric.
- the design is based on the assumption that an air layer is present between the inner overlap portion E1 and the outer overlap portion E2, so even if the air layer increases, it is unlikely to affect communication performance.
- the diameters of each part are designed to obtain appropriate communication performance based on the dielectric constants of the first dielectric 42 and the second dielectric 72.
- Figure 8 shows a cross-sectional view of the case where the distance between the first coaxial connector 40 and the external coaxial connector 30 is the smallest within the tolerance range, distance Lmin.
- the length of the inner overlapping portion E1 is the maximum allowable length LE1max
- the length of the outer overlapping portion E2 is the maximum allowable length LE2max.
- the first dielectric 42 and the second dielectric 72 are positioned to avoid both the inner overlapping portion E1 and the outer overlapping portion E2, which have the maximum allowable lengths LE1max and LE2max.
- the first dielectric 42 is positioned at a distance from the tip of the first inner conductor tube portion 52 to its base end side, at least half the protruding length N of the first inner conductor elastic piece 56 in the direction of the central axis X.
- both the first dielectric 42 and the second dielectric 72 are positioned to avoid both the inner overlapping portion E1 and the outer overlapping portion E2. Therefore, the first coaxial connector 40 and the second coaxial connector 70 can be designed so as to obtain desired communication performance on the premise that air is interposed between the inner overlapping portion E1 and the outer overlapping portion E2. In this case, even if the connection position of the second coaxial connector 70 relative to the first coaxial connector 40 deviates from a predetermined position, only the length of the air interposed portion in the connection direction varies. Compared to the case where each coaxial connector is designed on the assumption that a dielectric is interposed in most parts between the inner overlapping portion E1 and the outer overlapping portion E2, stable communication performance can be obtained.
- the first dielectric 42 can maintain a constant positional relationship between the first inner conductor 50 and the first outer conductor 60 at a position closer to the base end of each of the first inner conductor 50 and the first outer conductor 60 than both the inner overlapping portion E1 and the outer overlapping portion E2.
- the second dielectric 72 can maintain a constant positional relationship between the second inner conductor 80 and the second outer conductor 90 at a position closer to the base end of each of the second inner conductor 80 and the second outer conductor 90 than both the inner overlapping portion E1 and the outer overlapping portion E2. This makes it easier to obtain stable communication performance while maintaining a coaxial structure in the connection structure.
- the first dielectric 42 is positioned from the tip of the first inner conductor tube portion 52 toward its base end, at a distance of more than half the protruding length N of the first inner conductor elastic piece 56 in the direction of the central axis X, the first dielectric 42 is likely to be positioned avoiding the inner overlapping portion E1 and the outer overlapping portion E2.
- the second dielectric 72 is positioned between the second inner conductor tube portion 82 and the second outer conductor tube portion 92 and between the second inner conductor extension tube portion 86 and the second outer conductor extension tube portion 96, it is easy to position air between the inner overlap portion E1 and the outer overlap portion E2.
- the first inner conductor elastic piece 56 elastically contacts the inner peripheral surface of the second inner conductor tube portion 82
- the first outer conductor elastic piece 66 elastically contacts the outer peripheral surface of the second outer conductor tube portion 92. Therefore, the elastic pieces 56, 66 are prevented from being interposed between the second inner conductor tube portion 82 and the second outer conductor tube portion 92.
- the second inner conductor tube portion 82 and the second outer conductor tube portion 92 can be made cylindrical in their entirety.
- the second inner conductor tube portion 82 and the second outer conductor tube portion 92 are components of the second coaxial connector 70, it is easy to maintain a constant positional relationship between the second inner conductor tube portion 82 and the second outer conductor tube portion 92. This results in more stable communication performance.
- the positioning piece 53 is fitted into the positioning groove 44, thereby fixing the first inner conductor 50 in an inserted state in the first dielectric 42.
- the first inner conductor tube portion 52 is firmly fixed to the first dielectric 42.
- the first inner conductor 50 is formed by pressing a metal plate, the first inner conductor 50 is easily held firmly by the first dielectric 42. If the first inner conductor 50 is formed by pressing, costs can be reduced compared to when it is formed by cutting.
- the anti-slip projection 53p at the protruding end of the positioning piece 53 hooks onto the bottom of the positioning groove 44, making it difficult for the first inner conductor 50 to come out of the first dielectric 42.
- a retaining annular protrusion 45 is formed in the portion of the first dielectric 42 that surrounds the insertion hole 43, so that even if the first dielectric 42 is formed away from the overlapping portions E1 and E2, resulting in a thinned portion, it is easy to firmly retain the first inner conductor 50.
- the outer peripheral annular convex portion 46 of the first dielectric 42 comes into contact with the first outer conductor 60, which makes it easier to stabilize the position of the first outer conductor 60 relative to the first dielectric 42. This makes the positional relationship between the first inner conductor 50 and the first outer conductor 60 stable, which makes it easier to stabilize communication performance.
- the first coaxial connector 40 is a board-side coaxial connector
- the second coaxial connector 70 is a relay coaxial connector that relays between the first coaxial connector 40 as a board-side coaxial connector and the coaxial connector for external connection 30.
- the position of the second coaxial connector 70 relative to the first coaxial connector 40 may vary due to misalignment of the circuit board 21 relative to the coaxial connector for external connection 30. In such a case, stable communication performance can be obtained between the first coaxial connector 40 and the second coaxial connector 70.

Description

<効果等>
