Description
A DEVICE DEVELOPED FOR BOARD GAMES
Technical Field
The invention relates to a device developed to be used in particular in board games in entertainment/game industry.
Prior Art
Board games are the types of games which have a certain playability limit by using rules defined by the developer of the game, a set of cards required for the game, and dices with a wide variety of faces when necessary. In such games, the progress is recorded manually by the users, and the game is played in accordance with the scenario in the game booklet. Therefore, different scenarios for these games stops emerging after some time, and they turn into games repeating themselves. Briefly, board games are a type of games offering a completely off-line gaming experience. There are more than 70.000 types of board games in total with a very high market share.
There exist dice devices developed for an electronic simulation of the dices used in roleplaying (RPG) type board games in the state of the art. With the devices in the present art, only an action of rolling a dice in the games which requires to roll the dice is performed, and no data about the game played can be recorded. In addition, users still have to manually keep their progress about the game and thus perform the mathematical and repetitive processes by themselves.
There exists a static game experience in RPG board games in the state of the art. This is because said games have a configuration which can only reflect the subject of the game with the pictures drawn on a hard cardboard, but cannot provide a feeling of reality. In addition, the scenarios are formed only according to the designer of the game in such games, and thus non-dynamic games with a limited capacity can be played. Electronic dice devices developed for such games, on the other hand, do not allow the designer of the game to use an algorithm which may apply any complexity, as they only perform the function of rolling the dice. Therefore, the board games created have limits for their playability.
Due to the above-mentioned reasons, there is a need for developing devices to eliminate said disadvantages.
Brief Description of the Invention
An object of the invention is to develop a device which increases the gaming experience by digitalizing the dices of the conventional board games and provides board games having an ability to be renewed consistently by providing said board games with a dynamic structure.
Another object of the invention is to develop a device which allows the experiences offered by the off-line board games to be presented to the users in a digital environment so as to be on-line and the board games to be produced by the developers by the desired algorithms.
Another object of the invention is to develop a device which provides a complete board game experience by increasing the gaming experience of the users by the sensors and a vibration motor contained therein, and thus provides a sense of reality without losing the essence of the board game industry. With said device, the pictures in the known board games are animated on the screens, and thus the quality of the game experience is increased.

Detailed Description of the Invention
The invention relates to a device 1 which enables the manual operations of the users in the board games to be performed in a digital environment, the board game makers to create the game scenarios more freely by using the desired algorithm/algorithms as compared to the off-line board games, wherein the device allows the games to be kept constantly updated as they are digital. Said device 1 is a cube in shape in a preferred embodiment of the invention, and also meets the need for a dice used in the physical board games in the present art.
The terms “desired” and “more freely” are used based on the limitation of off-line board games and for comparison purposes. As the off-line board games are physical, the scenario of the game and the number of the materials to be used accordingly are limited. With the device 1 of the invention, which enables the digitalization of the board games, said limits are eliminated, and it is possible for a game developer to develop the game with more options.
The device 1 comprises at least a first control unit 11 enabling the background processes of the software and the mathematical calculations to be performed, at least a second control unit 12 performing the programming and wireless communication processes, at least one display unit 13 allowing a user to display and control an interface (not enumerated), at least one body 14 allowing the display unit 13 to be installed in the device 1 , and at least one power storage unit 15 storing the power needed by the device 1. The device 1 of the invention has preferably six display units 13. The body 14 has a configuration which provides the device 1 with a cube shape. Said body 14 is made of ABS plastic in order for the device 1 to be durable, solid and rigid.
The first control unit 11 comprises at least one storage unit 111 in which the data of a game and/or a user is recorded, at least one detecting unit 112 detecting the sounds from a sound emitting unit 121 and/or the shaking of the device 1 caused by a user, and at least a first processing unit 113 performing the background processes of the software and the mathematical calculations. The detecting units 112 enable the users to feel the feeling of the situations which develop during the game, and thus increase the user experience. Said detecting units 112 are a gyroscope and an accelerometer, and it should not be considered limited thereto in practice. The gyroscope and accelerometer measure the inclination, angular velocity and change in its movement speed of the device 1. The first processing unit 113 is preferably a microprocessor.
In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the first control unit 11 , in addition to the foregoing, comprises at least one connector (not enumerated) in order to mount the power storage unit 15 and prevent the same from being disconnected in case of sudden impact, preferably three display connectors (not enumerated) for mounting the display units 13 to the device 1 , at least one debug connector (not enumerated) for debugging in the first processing unit 113 and providing programming, and at least one FFC (Flat Flex Cable) connector (not enumerated) for transmitting the power and signals needed for the first control unit 11.
The second control unit 12 comprises at least one sound emitting unit 121 for transmitting the sounds of any application executed on the device 1 to a user, at least one vibrating unit 122 increasing the user's sensation by vibrating the device 1 during shaking thereof and/or sound emission, at least one communication unit 123 increasing a wireless coverage area of the second processing unit 124, and at least a second processing unit 124 performing the programming and wireless communication processes. The communication unit 123 is an antenna in the preferred embodiment of the invention, but is not limited thereto in practice. The second processing unit 124 is a microprocessor. The second processing unit 124 is also a unit in which all software operations for on-line communication operations are controlled and thus data from a user's phone is transmitted to the first control unit 11 .
In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the second control unit 12, in addition to the foregoing, comprises at least one programming connector (not enumerated) in order to perform the programming, three display connectors (not enumerated) for mounting the
display units 13 to the device 1 , at least one debug connector (not enumerated) for debugging in the first processing unit 124 and providing programming, and at least one FFC (Flat Flex Cable) connector (not enumerated) for transmitting the power and signals needed for the first control unit 12.
The first processing unit 113 sends the data obtained from the detecting unit 112 to the second processing unit 124 to send it to the user's phone. Thus, all communication between the device 1 and the user phone is provided.
By the first control unit 1 , players/users are made free from manual and repetitive processes such as mathematical processes and statistics, and all these operations are controlled by the device 1 . In board games, especially in role-playing (RPG) type games, it is possible to play the scenario prepared by the game moderator in a more realistic way using the device 1 of the invention. The device 1 increases the user experience via detecting units 112, sound emitting unit 121 and vibration unit 122 contained therein and offers the user a feeling of being in the game like never before in board games. The second control unit 12 enables the user to interact with the users from all over the world and thus to play games from anywhere.
Owing to the programmable structure thereof, the game developers are able to develop their games and constantly update their games. A game library is defined in an interface which is provided to the user as preloaded. The users may buy games and make updates therefrom. Thus, the static structure of the board games has been changed and made dynamic.
Due to the Bluetooth technology positioned on the second control unit 12, the device 1 may be integrated with the other Internet-enabled items in the environment and allows the use of background music, visuals and effects. For example, the lamp may be turned on and off by the device 1 of the invention by connecting to a smart lamp. Users may view the statistical data of the game over the phone by the connections made via the phone. In addition, the device 1 of the invention may be connected to the means such as smart home systems, audio systems, video systems and projections. In addition, the device 1 reacts according to the data from the detecting units 112, thereby providing the user with the feeling of being in the game.
In the completely off-line board game industry, data on board games may also be recorded and big data can be obtained for such games, as the device 1 has become online.
By allowing the game designer to use algorithms of any complexity, the limitations in board games are eliminated. While doing this, the game designer may compile the game algorithms prepared by him/her thanks to the pre-prepared software infrastructure, such that the device 1 may understand, before sending them to the device 1 , and send them to the device 1.
In an exemplary embodiment of the invention, when the game starts, an order is determined on the mobile phone, notifications are sent over the dice of the people on the dice, and the decision is made on whose turn it is. Then the selected dice vibrates to indicate to be rolled. From the moment it is rolled, the sensors in the device 1 calculate the angle and speed thereof, and after providing results by showing random numbers, characters and action patterns according to how fast it is rolled, they provide notification by vibrating and giving a sound to the outside. It should not be considered that the invention is limited thereto in practice.
