Description

END INTEGRATED ADVANCE GUARDRAIL FOR SCAFFOLDING SYSTEMS
FIELD OF THE DISCLOSURE
The present disclosure relates generally to scaffolding systems, and more specifically to a guardrails adapted to be erected in advance of walking platforms for workers on the scaffolding system.
BACKGROUND
Modular scaffold support systems are commonly used to provide vertical support for structures as well as for use in defining a raised work platform adjacent a structure. Scaffold systems are also used for providing temporary structures such as work platforms or removable bleacher-type seating.
One of the most common scaffolding system is modular and is designed to allow convenient connection of horizontal members to tubular steel upright members. The tubular steel upright members have a series of connecting members positioned in the length of the vertical upright and the horizontal members include at the ends thereof a component designed to connect with any of a series of connecting nodes provided on vertical upright scaffold members. This type of modular connection of scaffold components is convenient and requires less expertise in the assembly of support structures or raised platforms.
SUMMARY
The present disclosure may comprise one or more of the following features and combinations thereof.
A scaffolding system includes a scaffolding assembly configured to support a worker above ground adjacent a structure and an end guardrail for integration with the scaffolding assembly. The scaffolding assembly includes a plurality of vertical scaffold posts, a plurality of ledgers that extend between the scaffold posts, and horizontal work platforms supported by the ledges so that workers to walk on the scaffolding assembly. The plurality of vertical scaffold posts includes a first vertical scaffold post and a second vertical scaffold post spaced apart from the first vertical scaffold post. The end guardrail is coupled with the first and second vertical scaffold posts to block the user from passing through a space between the first vertical post and the second vertical post.

The second ledger head connector 20 has a second support member 64, a second ledger head 66, and a second wedge 69. The second support member 64 extends away from the lower terminal end 40 of the second vertical guardrail post 26. The second ledger head 66 is coupled with the second support member 64 and removably coupled with the fourth rosette 118D of the second vertical scaffold post 112B. The second wedge 69 extends through the second ledger head 66 and the fourth rosette 118D to couple the end guardrail 10 to the second vertical scaffold post 112B. The second ledger head connector 20 is substantially the same as the first ledger head connector 18 and features described for the first ledger head connector 18 are applicable to the second ledger head connector 20.
The first support member 60 of the first ledger head connector 18 extends downwardly and distally away from the first vertical guardrail post 24 toward the first vertical scaffold post 112A at a second angle 58 relative to the first rail 28 as shown in Fig. 8. In the illustrative embodiment, the first angle 56 is different than the second angle 58. In some embodiments, the second angle 58 is between about 15 degrees and about 60 degrees. In some embodiments, the second angle 58 is between about 20 degrees and about 55 degrees. Illustratively, the second angle is about 45 degrees. The second angle 58 is selected based on a length of the first support member 60, among other possible factors, so that the first ledger head 62 receives the second rosette 118B and aligns with one of the holes 132 in the second rosette 118B as shown in Fig. 11.
The  ledger head connectors  18, 20 are at a different angle compared to the locating  pin arms  14, 16 so that each of the  ledger head connectors  18, 20 align with a hole 132, while each of the locating  pin arms  14, 16 align with a hole 130 as shown in Figs. 10 and 11. The  holes alternate circumferentially around the rosette 118 such that the pattern goes hole 130, hole 132, hole 130, hole 132, etc. as shown in Figs. 10 and 11. The second angle 58 is different from the first angle 56 so that the  ledger head connectors  18, 20 will align with and extend into the holes 132 instead of the holes 130.
Each of the first and  second support members  60, 64 includes a bracket 65 and a support body 67 as shown in Figs. 7 and 8. The bracket 65 of the first support member 60 has a horizontal segment 68 coupled with the first vertical guardrail post 24 and a vertical segment 70 coupled with the first ledger head 62. The bracket 65 may further include a joining segment 72 that extends between and interconnects the horizontal segment 68 and the vertical segment 70. The illustrative embodiment of the bracket 65 does include such a joining segment 72 that extends at an angle between the horizontal segment 68 and the vertical segment 70.
The support body 67 extends between and interconnects the horizontal segment 68 and the vertical segment 70 as shown in Fig. 7. In the illustrative embodiment, the support body 67 is a flat plate as shown in Fig. 7. The support body 67 is formed to define a cutout that extends into the support body at the end adjacent the horizontal segment 68 of the bracket 65. The support body 67 is spaced apart from the joining segment 72. In the illustrative embodiment, the support body 67 is welded with the bracket 65. The bracket and support body of the second support member 64 are substantially similar to the bracket 65 and support body 67.
In the illustrative embodiment, the rail assembly 12, first extension member 46, and the second extension member 50 are all formed of metallic tubes that are welded together. The brackets 65 and flat plate 67 are made of flat metal stock. The first ledger head 62 and the second ledger head 66 are conventional ring lock style ledger heads that include an upper body and a lower body that are formed with a horizontal slot therebetween for receiving the rosettes 118.
The support body 67 of the first support members 60 extends at an angle 74 relative to the first vertical guard post 24 as shown in Fig. 7. In some embodiments, the angle 74 is between about 10 degrees and about 40 degrees. In some embodiments, the angle 74 is between about 20 degrees and about 30 degrees. In the illustrative embodiment, the angle 74 is about 30 degrees. The angle 74 is selected based on a position of the rosette 118B relative to the other rosette 118A, among other possible factors, so that the first wedge 63 is aligned with and received by one of the holes 132 in the rosette 118B as shown in Fig. 10.
A method of assembling the scaffolding system 110 includes providing the scaffolding assembly 111 and the end guardrail 10. The method includes moving the end guardrail 10 relative to the scaffolding assembly 111 so that the first locating pin arm 14 is aligned vertically with the first scaffold rosette 118A and the second locating pin arm 16 is  aligned vertically with the third scaffold rosette 118C. The method includes lowering the end guardrail 10 so that a portion, first locating pin 48, of the first locating pin arm 14 is received in the first scaffold rosette 118A and a portion, second locating pin 52, of the second locating pin arm 16 is received in the third scaffold rosette 118C.
The end guardrail 10 is then pivoted about the pivot points at the first scaffold rosette 118A and the third scaffold rosette 118C so that the first terminal end 36 of the first guardrail post 24 and the second terminal end 40 of the second guardrail post 26 are rotated toward the scaffolding assembly 111. The end guardrail 10 is pivoted until a first wedge 63 aligns with one of the holes 132 of the second scaffold rosette 118B and a second wedge 69 aligns with one of the holes 132 of the fourth scaffold rosette 118D.
