Description

Glazing bead, window or door provided with such glazing bead and method applied thereby for mounting .
The present invention relates to a glazing bead .
In particular, the invention relates to a glazing bead made from aluminium, for clamping the contour edges of a panel in an aluminium frame , for example a frame of a fixed window, a frame of a window leaf or a frame of a door leaf .
The panel is a glass panel , for example , but alternatively can also be an acrylate panel or a panel made from another material .
Traditionally, such frame is composed of profiles provided with an undercut groove on the inner contour of the frame for attaching a glazing bead, in other words on the sides of the profiles facing each other .
After assembly of the panel in the frame the panel is clamped by applying glazing beads in the undercut grooves provided in the frame to this end .
Traditionally, the glazing beads are slid or tilted into the undercut grooves , after which said glazing beads clamp the panel as it were .
Traditionally, a glazing bead is provided with a seal , for example a rubber sealing strip . After assembly, said seal is located between the panel and the glazing bead and makes sure that no water and/or dirt can seep in between the glazing beads and the frame and moreover said seal has a draught-excluding function .
In speci fic cases said glazing beads have a stepped or special design . Stepped design is understood to mean a glazing bead with an inwardly protruding lip on which the aforementioned seal is attached .
A problem in applying such glazing beads with a stepped design is that in case of a square connection of said glazing beads in the corners of the frame , it results in a visible gap between the adj oining glazing beads in the relevant corners .
Solutions already exist to avoid said gaps where the glazing beads meet in the corners of the frame .
A solution is to saw the glazing beads with a mitred cut . However, glazing beads sawn with a mitred cut can no longer be tilted into the undercut grooves of the frame in the traditional way . Indeed, the mitres would touch upon tilting in .
To avoid this problem snap-ins are sometimes applied which are slid into the undercut groove in the frame and subsequently connected with the glazing bead . A disadvantage is that this embodiment with snap-in is not as strong and that furthermore this embodiment cannot be used for aluminium glazing beads .
An alternative is to saw or divide the glazing beads into three pieces , i . e . into two end pieces and a centre piece , before assembly .
After installation of the vertical glazing beads , the two end pieces are placed near the corners of the frame with one end finished with a mitred cut and one end finished with a square cut and subsequently slid into the corners with the end finished with a mitred cut .
Subsequently the centre pieces finished with a square cut at their ends are tilted in .
A disadvantage is that the cuts of the hori zontal glazing beads remain visible and thus look less pleasing aesthetically .
In the event of glazing beads made from synthetic material , for example polyvinyl chloride , the glazing beads are more flexible , such that said glazing beads can be installed in their entirety and this by slightly bending them during assembly . This is not possible with rigid materials such as aluminium .
A third existing solution for avoiding gaps in the corners of glazing beads with a stepped design is eliminating the overlap in the corners by milling . The disadvantage is that a complex milling operation is necessary that requires a longer production time and furthermore cannot be executed on site either . Consequently this method comes with a cost that is considerably higher than the method with the snap- ins or sawing the glazing beads with a mitred cut . Furthermore , a certain play needs to be provided .
The purpose of the present invention is to provide a solution to the aforementioned and other disadvantages .
To this end, the invention relates to a glazing bead made from aluminium for clamping the contour edges of a panel in a frame that is composed of profiles which are provided with an undercut groove for attaching the glazing bead, whereby the glazing bead is formed by a basic profile with a foot that fits in the undercut groove and an auxiliary profile with complementary coupling parts , whereby the glazing bead shows a stepped design with an inwardly protruding lip and whereby the foot of the basic profile is provided with fasteners for attaching in the undercut groove in the frame , whereby the fasteners are exclusively provided on the basic profile and not on the auxiliary profile and whereby the protruding lip is part of the auxiliary profile and whereby the coupling parts are executed such that the coupling is realised by snapping or sliding the auxiliary profile into the basic profile .
This provides the advantage that aluminium glazing beads with a stepped design can be used without loss of strength, without complex milling operations and without noticeably visible seams .
The assembly of such glazing beads according to the invention is very simple and quick, does not require any speci fic tools or prior operations and can be done on site .
Consequently, the cost of such glazing beads and the assembly thereof is considerably cheaper than applying complex milling operations .
In a preferred embodiment the auxiliary profile is snapped or slid in in a direction perpendicular to the foot of the basic profile or in other words in a direction parallel with the plane of the panel .
Preferably, in assembled condition in the frame , the glazing beads are finished with a square cut at their ends .
Indeed, when applying glazing beads finished with a mitred cut at their ends the mitres could touch during assembly which complicates the assembly or would even make it impossible .
Preferably, the fasteners of the basic profile comprise one or more tongues which by rotating, or tilting the glazing bead can engage in the undercut grooves of the profiles of the frame .
This allows the basic profiles to be connected with the profiles of the frame extremely quickly and simply whereby thanks to the square finish of the ends no problem of interference of adj oining profiles arises either .
In a preferred embodiment the basic profile is provided with a slot that is delimited by two walls , one wall of which is executed with an inwardly oriented tongue for coupling with the auxiliary profile , in other words a tongue facing the opposite wall .
Preferably, the auxiliary profile is executed as a bar with a stepped form to form two parts , i . e . a first part that forms the aforementioned protruding lip and a second part that is part of the coupling parts and to this end is provided with an outwardly oriented tongue .
The inwardly oriented tongue of the basic profile and the outwardly oriented tongue of the auxiliary profile can engage in each other to form the coupling parts .
Preferably, the thickness of the second part of the auxiliary profile is less than the thinnest breadth of the slot for the sake of snapping .
In a preferred embodiment the height of the wall facing the panel is less than the opposite wall of the slot .
This ensures that the wall facing the panel does not interfere with the seal and that the coupling parts are completely concealed behind the opposite wall , where they are invisible as it were . In a preferred embodiment the length of the auxiliary profile is less than the length of the basic profile . In this way, in the case of stepped glazing beads , gaps can be avoided where said glazing beads meet in the corners when the glazing beads are sawed of f squarely .
To form a uni form frame with adj oining glazing beads , without gaps where the glazing beads meet in the corners , the length of an auxiliary profile can be equal to the length of a basic profile minus zero , one or two times the breadth of a basic profile and/or minus zero , one or two times the height of the protruding lip .
As the auxiliary profile can be smaller than the basic profile , the glazing beads according to the invention can be sawn of f squarely before the auxiliary profile is snapped or slid into the basic profile . When the glazing beads are subsequently mounted adj oiningly, no gaps will appear in the corners there where the glazing beads meet .
In this way the glazing beads do not have to be sawn with a mitred cut and complex milling operations can be avoided .
The invention also relates to a window or door provided with a frame that is composed of profiles with an undercut groove , said frame being provided with a panel that is af fixed by means of glazing beads according to the invention .
Hereby, the basic profiles and the auxiliary pro files are finished with a square cut at their ends and the basic profiles on the one hand and the auxiliary profi les on the other hand adj oin squarely, in other words in every corner the square end of a basic profile adj oins against a sidewall of an adj oining basic profile and in every corner the square end of an auxiliary profile adj oins a sidewall of an adj oining auxiliary profile .
The invention also relates to a method for installing a glazing bead according to the invention on a frame with profiles with undercut groove , whereby the method comprises the following steps :
- squarely sawing the basic profiles and auxiliary profiles to length in such a way that the basic profiles on the one hand and the auxiliary profiles on the other hand squarely adj oin in assembled condition;
- installing a panel in the frame ;
- successively applying the basic profiles all around in the undercut grooves of the profiles of the frame by tilting them in;
- successively applying the auxiliary profiles all around by sliding in and snapping the auxiliary profiles with seal in a direction perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the relevant profiles .
Such method results in a frame whereby a panel can be clamped quickly, simply, strongly and cheaply by means of aluminium glazing beads with a stepped design according to the invention without a disturbing visible gap where the glazing beads meet . With the intention of better showing the characteri stics of the invention, a preferred embodiment of a glazing bead according to the invention, a window or door provided therewith and a method for the assembly thereof , is described hereinafter, by way o f an example without any limiting nature , with reference to the accompanying drawings wherein : figure 1 shows a cross-section of a leaf of a window, with a frame equipped with known glazing beads with stepped design; figure 2 shows two of the glazing beads of figure 1 in the event said glazing beads adj oin with a square end resulting in a gap appearing between the two glazing beads ; figure 3 shows a cross-section of a section of a leaf of a window as shown in figure 1 , but for aluminium glazing beads according to the invention; figure 4 shows the part indicated in figure 3 with frame F4 on a larger scale ; figure 5 shows a cross-section of a basic profile and variants of auxiliary profiles possibly cooperating therewith; figures 6A and 6B show an exemplary configuration of a leaf of a window, equipped with glazing beads according to the invention .
Figure 1 shows a partial cross-section of a known leaf 1 of a window 2 with a frame 3 that is composed of profiles 4 with an upright wall 5 on the outer side of the leaf 1 and provided with an outer seal 6 and on the inner contour of the frame 3 an undercut groove 7 for mounting a known glazing bead 8 provided with an inner seal 9 for clamping a panel 10 between the outer seal 6 of the upright wall 5 and the inner seal 9 of the glazing bead 8 .
The panel 10 is clamped in the frame 3 by means of glazing supports 11 that support the panel 10 .
In this known embodiment the glazing beads 8 are made from one piece and are snapped into the aforementioned undercut grooves 7 whereby in cross-section the glazing beads 8 have a stepped form with a substantially rectangular body 12 and an inwardly protruding lip 13 provided thereon for supporting the inner seal 9 .
Figure 2 illustrates that , i f the known glazing beads 8 with a stepped form were to be f inished with a square cut at their ends , said glazing beads 8 would adj oin with a gap 15 in between, which is aesthetically unacceptable , such that in such case a mitred connection would be applied .
Figure 3 shows a similar leaf 1 as figure 1 , whereby this time an aluminium glazing bead 8 according to the invention is applied and whereby the glazing support 11 and the panel 10 are not shown for simplicity .
In this case , the glazing bead 8 i s executed as a two-piece component and is formed here by a basic profile 16 and an auxiliary profile 17 with two complementary coupling parts 18 . The coupling parts 18 are executed such that the coupling is realised by snapping or sliding the auxiliary profile 17 into the basic profile 18 .
The basic profile 18 comprises a foot 19 with a breadth that is such that the foot 19 of the basic profile 16 fits in the undercut groove 7 of the profiles 4 of the frame 3 .
In the embodiment shown, the auxiliary profile 17 is snapped or slid into the basic profile 16 in a direction perpendicular to the foot 19 of the basic profile 16 .
Some things are shown in more detail in figure 4 .
Figure 4 clearly shows that fasteners 20 of the basic profile 16 comprise a tongue 21 which by rotating, or tilting the glazing bead 8 can engage in the undercut grooves 7 of the profiles 4 of the frame 3 .
The fasteners 20 for attaching to the frame 3 are hereby exclusively provided on the basic profile 16 and not on the auxiliary profile 17 .
The basic profile 16 is provided with a slot 22 that is delimited by two walls 23 , one wall 23A of which is executed with an inwardly oriented tongue 24 for coupling with the auxiliary profile 17 .
As is clearly visible in figure 4 , the auxiliary profile 17 in this embodiment is executed as a bar 25 with a stepped form to form two parts 26 , i . e . a first part 26A that forms the aforementioned protruding lip 13 and a second part 26B that is part of the coupling parts 18 and to this end is provided with an outwardly oriented tongue 27 , in other words a tongue 27 facing away from the auxiliary profile 17 .
In this case , the protruding lip 13 is provided with a detail 28 for attaching the inner seal 9 .
This detail 28 is not necessarily present , the space between the protruding lip 13 and the panel 10 can indeed also be filled with silicone paste , for example .
In this shown variant the thickness of the second part 26B of the auxiliary profile 17 is less than the thinnest breadth of the slot 22 . This is to facilitate snapping in the auxiliary profile 17 and the basic profile 16 .
In already assembled condition, as shown in figure 4 , the inwardly oriented tongue 24 of the basic profile 16 and the outwardly oriented tongue 27 of the auxiliary profile 17 hook into each other, such that the auxiliary profile 17 is coupled with the basic profile 16 .
After coupling the basic profile 16 and the auxiliary profile 17 , the basic profile 16 can no longer be unintentionally removed from the undercut grooves 7 of the profiles 4 of the frame 3 . Indeed, the basic profile 16 can no longer be tilted as the protruding lip 13 of the auxiliary profile 17 is now pressing against the panel 10 . In this embodiment , the height of the wall 23A facing the panel 10 is less than the height of the opposite wall 23B of the slot 22 , for creating suf ficient space for the inner seal 9 and also for making the coupling parts 18 invisible . Indeed, said coupling parts 18 are concealed by the opposite wall 23B of the slot 22 .
Figure 5 shows a separate cross- section of a basic profile 16 and a number of cross-sections of possible variants of auxiliary profiles 17 that can be snapped into the basic profile 16 to form the protruding lip 13 of the stepped form .
The most left variant of the auxiliary profile 17 only comprises a detail 28 for attaching the inner seal 9 whereas the other variants of auxiliary profiles 17 comprise a C-shaped protrusion 29 in which the inner seal 9 can be clamped . The distance between the C-shaped protrusion 29 and the bar 25 of the auxiliary profile 17 is hereby di f ferent and in this way the di f ferent auxiliary profiles 17 can be applied to a diversity of panel thicknesses .
A possible configuration of a frame 3 that is composed of profiles 4 and glazing beads 8 according to the invention, as shown in figure 6A, makes it clear that in this case the length of the auxiliary profiles 17 is less than the length of the basic profiles 16 .
In this embodiment the length of the auxiliary profiles 17 equals : a ) the length of the basic profiles 16 minus twice the breadth w of a basic profile 16 , or ; b ) the length of the basic profiles 16 minus twice the height h of a protruding lip 13 .
In figure 6A situation a is applicable to the vertical auxiliary profiles 17 , whereas situation b is applicable to the hori zontal auxiliary profiles 17 .
To the left and/or right next to the auxiliary prof iles 17 , a clearance is created for receiving another auxiliary profile 17 that is mounted squarely against it . Said clearance is thus always filled by another auxiliary profile 17 such that in this way gaps are avoided in case of stepped glazing beads 8 .
It is understood that i f figure 6A is rotated a quarter turn, an alternative variant is created whereby situation a applies to the hori zontal auxiliary profiles 17 and situation b applies to the vertical auxiliary profiles 17 .
It is furthermore understood that when comparing the length between a basic profile 16 and an auxiliary profile 17 , a comparison is always made between basic profiles 16 and auxiliary profiles 17 coupled to each other . In other words the length of an auxiliary profile 17 is defined relative to the basic profile 16 into which it is snapped or slid .
It is also understood that the breadth w of the basic profile 16 is defined as being the dimension of the visible wall section of the basic profile 16 that extends parallel to the panel 10 . The height h of the protruding lip 13 is defined as being the dimension of the visible section of the auxiliary profile 17 that extends parallel with the panel , in other words the distance measured from the basic profile 16 to the free end of the auxiliary profile 17 , which is intended for attachment with the inner seal 9 . Said dimensions w and h are also shown in figure 4 for the sake of clarity .
Figure 6B shows an alternative configuration whereby in the case of the hori zontal glazing beads 8 , the basic profiles 16 have the same length as the auxiliary profiles . In the case of the vertical glazing beads 8 , the auxiliary profiles 17 are equal to the length of the basic profiles 16 minus twice the breadth w of a basic profile 16 and minus twice the height h of a protruding lip 13 .
Here too it is understood that an alternative variant can be obtained when figure 6B is rotated a quarter turn .
For a person skilled in the art it is understood that alternative configurations are still possible by rotating the figures 6A and 6B or by making combinations of the figures 6A and 6B .
The invention also relates to a method for mounting glazing beads 8 according to the invention on a frame 3 with profiles 4 with undercut groove 7 , whereby the method comprises the following steps :
- squarely sawing the basic profiles 16 and auxiliary profiles 17 to length in such a way that the basic profiles 16 on the one hand and the auxiliary profiles 17 on the other hand squarely adj oin in assembled condition;
- installing a panel 10 in the frame 3 ;
- successively applying the basic profiles 16 all around in the undercut grooves 7 of the profiles 4 of the frame 3 by tilting them in;
- successively applying the auxiliary profiles 17 all around by sliding in and snapping the auxiliary profiles 17 with inner seal 9 in a direction perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the relevant profiles 4 .
The present invention is by no means limited to the embodiments described as an example and shown in the figures , but a glazing bead according to the invention and a window or door provided therewith and a method for mounting can be realised in all kinds of variants without departing from the scope of the invention .
