Definitions
- the present invention relates to a tent and a method of assembling the tent.
- the present invention relates to a small tent including an inflatable frame and an inflatable cushion and a method of assembling a small tent including an inflatable frame and an inflatable cushion.
- Tents generally include a support frame and a canopy.
- Such support frames may be inflatable such that several air struts are combined to provide an inflatable support frame.
- These inflatable frames are inflated to a certain pressure to provide the strength and rigidity needed to support the canopy, thereby providing an interior camping space.
- inflatable support frames may sway and move outward or inward during use due to wind and/or inclement weather.
- Tent pegs can be used to provide a degree of stability and to prevent the lower ends of the air poles from moving toward or away from each other.
- a small tent or tent can provide a relatively small interior space that can be used primarily for sleeping purposes. These tents can generally accommodate one or two people sleeping side by side. This tent does not provide any living space, in which the occupants will be able to sit comfortably on a chair or even stand up.
- camping cots or pads may be provided for each occupant and may occupy interior space. Due to limited interior space, camping cots are typically assembled from the outside, or the air mattress is inflated from the outside and then moved into the tent. This can introduce dirt and debris into your clean living space, especially if it rains.
- the air mattress or camping bed may slide and push against the canopy and/or frame as the camping bed/air mattress is moved within the tent. If the camping cot/air mattress touches and/or rests on the canopy, the integrity of the canopy may be compromised. For example, such contact may cause or at least facilitate water leakage through the canopy.

- the longitudinal length and transverse width of the tent 10 are suitable for one to two persons to lie therein.
- the height of the tent 10 , or the length of each column portion 14 of the support structure 12 is preferably such that a person cannot stand in the tent 10 .
- tent 10 is a small tent, just large enough for one or two people to sleep therein, and does not provide any additional accommodation space or interior living area.
- tent 10 is not suitable for chairs, tables, or any storage units, etc.
- the purpose of this tent is to provide a small compact and portable tent 10 which provides minimal comfortable space for one or two people and is mainly used for sleeping/resting/sheltering purposes.
- the support structure 12 includes a single interconnected channel for air.

- the lower end 15 of each column section 14 is a closed end and forms the lower end or foot 15 of the support structure 12 when the support structure 12 is inflated and erected.
- the pole portions 14 are arranged so that when inflated, the lower ends or feet 15 of the pole portions 14 form or are located at the lower corners of the tent 10 .
- the upper end or upper portion of each column section 14 is connected to and forms a continuous channel with the roof structure of the support structure 12 .
- the overall overall tent structure is conventional in that the support frame 12 supports the canopy 16 to provide a sheltered interior area.
- the present invention provides an integral pad 20 that also reinforces Support frame 12.
- the integrated cushion is an air cushion 20 that engages each of the upright air poles 14 to prevent the air poles 14 from being damaged by external forces (such as physical movement of the canopy 16 and/or wind forces on the walls of the tent 10 ). And move away from each other.
- the air cushion 20 prevents the air rods 14 from moving towards each other again due to external forces.
- the air poles 14 also maintain the desired central placement of the air mattress 20 within the tent 10 and also prevent/inhibit the air mattress 20 from undesirably moving to a position adjacent and abutting the outer walls of the tent 10 that could facilitate water intrusion.
- the air cushion 20 serves as a reinforced base spanning between the lower portions of the upright air struts 14 . Furthermore, because the air mattress 20 is sized to span between the upright air poles 14 , the air mattress 20 substantially fills the interior floor space of the tent 10 .
- the present invention also provides an inflatable device for the air mattress 20 that is accessible from the outside of the tent 10 .
- the air mattress 20 has a valve 30 for inflation and/or deflation, which valve is installed in the side wall 19 of the tent 10 formed by the canopy 16 . Accordingly, this allows the air mattress 20 to be inflated to the required pressure in situ, and this prevents the user from having to attempt to move the fully inflated air mattress 20 into the restricted/tight floor space provided in the tent 10 .
- the present invention provides a small compact tent 10 having an integrated pad 20 that stabilizes and strengthens the air frame 12 of the tent 10 .
- the air mattress 20 can also be easily removed from the tent 10 in the event that the air mattress 20 requires repair or replacement and damage to the air mattress 20 does not render the complete camping assembly or the tent 10 unusable or repairable.
- the replacement air cushion 20 can be attached to the air frame 12 in place.
- the air cushion 20 includes an upper surface 22 and a lower surface 24, which may provide contoured surfaces for comfort purposes and/or to provide desired support.
- the air cushion 20 is generally rectangular and includes four corners 26 .
- Each corner 26 is provided with an aerobar engagement means such that each corner 26 is securely engaged with the corresponding aerobar 14 .
- the air rod engagement device includes an aperture 27 that extends through the air cushion 20 to enable the air rod 14 to fully extend through the air cushion 20 .
- Part of the air cushion 20 is made of This completely surrounds the air struts 14 such that the structure of the air cushion 20 will inhibit and prevent the air struts 14 from moving away from and towards each other.
- Each corner 26 of the air mattress 20 provides an uninflated portion that forms a flap 28 extending from the inflatable section of the air mattress 20 .
- These fins 28 are non-inflatable fins, for example of the plastic material from which the air cushion 20 is made.
- a circular aperture 27 is provided in the wing 28 , which aperture is arranged to receive the outer circumference of the aerobar 14 , in particular the foot 15 of the aerobar 14 .
- the gas strut 14 may be located primarily within a sleeve section 17 formed integrally with the canopy 16 .
- the foot portion 15 is exposed so that the foot 15 can be placed on the corresponding tab 28 through the engagement aperture 27 . It can be seen that once the foot 15 extends through the aperture 27, accidental disengagement is prevented. Because the fins 28 extend around the middle or central location of the inflated air mattress 20 , the fins 28 are naturally positioned above the actual ground surface, i.e., the lower inflated portion of the air mattress 20 extends downward to the ground and lifts or holds the fins 28 above the ground. . This prevents the lower surface of foot 15 from simply sliding out of aperture 27 .
- the air cushion 20 By engaging all four corner upright air struts 14 within corresponding apertures 27 , the air cushion 20 effectively forms a reinforced base such that spacing between the air struts 14 is maintained and movement and deformation of the air frame 12 is prevented. Roof struts similarly provide structural reinforcement to the roof 18 and the present invention effectively provides a complete cage structure.
- the air cushion 20 also includes a duct at one longitudinal end thereof.
- the catheter provides an inflation (or deflation) tube 32 .
- a valve 30 is mounted on the lower surface of the pipe 32 .
- the tube 32 is flexible and is arranged to extend from the air mattress 20 and project upwardly such that the underside of the tube 32 is adjacent the side wall 19 of the tent 10 provided by the canopy 16 . In this position, the valve 30 is located on the tube 32 facing outward.
- the canopy 16 provides mounting apertures so that the valve 30 is accessible from outside the tent 10 .
- the valve 30 is arranged to be mounted/fastened within the orifice such that the valve 30 remains accessible from the outside at all times and does not need to be positioned and moved into position.
- the valve arrangement may have two flanges that are relatively movable towards each other.
- the outer flange 34 may be removable from the valve assembly and the valve 30 may be moved to protrude through the aperture/wall 19 . In this position, the outer flange 34 can then be screwed back onto the valve arrangement to capture the canopy 16 around the orifice. This thereby secures the valve 30 to the wall 19 of the tent 10 .
- Canopy 16 may be provided with a shield 36 to protect valve 30 .
- the shield 36 includes flexible flaps, which may be of textile material. This flap may be fastened (eg, stitched) around three sides (or a single upper curved side), with a lower free edge providing access to the end of the valve 30 . Accordingly, the user is able to access the valve 30 from outside the tent 10, which allows an external pump 32 to be connected and also allows the valve 30 to be used for deflation purposes.
- the externally accessible valve 30 enables the air cushion 20 to be inflated to the required pressure to stabilize the air frame 12 in place. With such pressure, the air mattress 20 can be relatively stiff/rigid, which makes introducing it into the tent 10 and engaging each foot 15 of the air pole 14 problematic for a person. Additionally, this valve arrangement also allows the user to quickly and easily replenish and re-pressurize the air cushion 20 if the pressure decreases over time or with use. Reinflation can be performed without disassembling and removing the air mattress 20 and without disturbing any of the contents of the tent 10 .
- the frame 12 includes a single network provided by air struts 14 (inflatable support members), wherein a single valve 42 is used to inflate and deflate the entire network. Again, the valve 42 is accessible from a location outside the tent 10 for the aforementioned advantageous reasons. In addition, the valve 42 is provided with a shroud 40 to protect and conceal the valve 42.
- the inflatable network of the frame 12 is separate and independent from the air cushion 20 . This enables the air cushion 20 to be inflated to one pressure and the frame 12 to another pressure. Furthermore, failure of one inflatable volume will not affect the other and facilitates any subsequent necessary repairs and/or replacements.
- Tents 10 include small tents designed for one person (as shown in Figures 8 and 9) or two people (as shown in Figures 10 and 11). These small tents 10 have an integrated pad 20, either a single pad (for one person) or two pads (for two people). Each of the four corners 26 of the pad 20 has an engagement aperture 27 for completely surrounding the foot portion 15 of the corresponding corner air pole 14 of the tent 10 .
- the tent 10 may be provided with a main access door 50 positioned along one lateral side of the tent 10 to provide an enlarged doorway. This doorway can also be provided with a canopy. Each longitudinal end of the tent may have a window which may also provide additional ventilation to the tent.
- the tent 10 is very compact and structurally strong due to the compact engagement of the air mattress 20 with the structural air frame 12 .
- Regular tent pegs can also be used to secure the tent 10 to the ground and can be
- the upper portion of the canopy 16 and the air strut 14 are stabilized with guy wires or tie bars. Accordingly, the air rod 14 is fastened separately at the upper part and the lower part.
- the present invention relates to the integration of air cushion and tent.
- the air mattress is fastened to the tent via:
- the present invention provides a product with advantageous package size and build/pack time.
- camping sleeping bags rely on foam padding. This is heavy and bulky in terms of weight and packaging size.
- these problems will be solved and the opportunity will be provided for storage and travel with a small backpack that will provide dry and warm comfort in the harshest conditions.
- the pad 20 By integrating the pad 20 with the tent 10, it is convenient for the user to always have the pad 20 and the tent 10. However, the pad 20 is removable, so if any repairs are needed, it can be easily replaced. Additionally, the pad 20 can be inflated using the same pump as the tent 10, which means less labor and less gear for the user. Overall, the invention is lightweight, minimizes set-up and packing time and requires minimal storage space.
