一実施形態に係るUSBインタフェース回路は、USB(Universal Serial Bus)Type-Cのソースとなる機器に搭載される。USBインタフェース回路は、コネクタのCCピンに電流を供給する可変電流源を含むプルアップ回路と、CCピンの電圧を測定する電圧検出回路と、可変電流源を制御するとともに、電圧検出回路の出力にもとづいて、CCピンに付着する水分を検出する処理部と、を備える。

これらの構成によると、CCピンに供給する電流を、複数の電流量で変化させ、電流量ごとのCCピンの電圧を検出する。これにより、CCピンに接続される物体のインピーダンスを測定でき、水分の付着を検出できる。
一実施形態に係るUSBインタフェース回路は、コネクタのCCピンをプルアップする可変抵抗を含むプルアップ回路と、CCピンの電圧を測定する電圧検出回路と、可変抵抗を制御するとともに、電圧検出回路の出力にもとづいて、CCピンに付着する水分を検出する処理部と、を備える。
一実施形態に係る電子機器は、VBUSピン、CCピンを有するコネクタと、CCピンと接続される可変抵抗を含むプルアップ回路と、CCピンの電圧を測定する電圧検出回路と、可変抵抗を制御するとともに、電圧検出回路の出力にもとづいて、CCピンに付着する水分を検出する処理部と、を備える。
これら構成によると、CCピンに接続されるプルアップ抵抗の抵抗値を、複数の値で変化させ、抵抗値ごとのCCピンの電圧を検出する。これにより、CCピンに接続される物体のインピーダンスを測定でき、水分の付着を検出できる。
一実施形態において、インタフェース回路は、オン状態とオフ状態が切りかえ可能であり、オン状態においてコネクタのVBUSピンを放電する放電回路をさらに備えてもよい。放電回路がオンの状態で、処理部は、水分の付着を検出してもよい。これにより、VBUSピンとCCピンの間の水分の付着を検出できる。
一実施形態において、処理部による水分の検出を時分割で行ってもよい。

電源回路110の出力は、コネクタ102のVBUSピンと接続される。電源回路110は、バス電圧VBUSを生成する。
USBインタフェース回路200は、コネクタ102のCC1ピンおよびCC2ピンと接続される。CC1ピンおよびCC2ピンをCCピンと総称する。USBインタフェース回路200は、プルアップ回路210、電圧検出回路220、処理部230、放電回路240を備える。USBインタフェース回路200は、ひとつの半導体基板に集積化された機能IC(Integrated Circuit)であってもよい。このようなICは、ポートコントローラと称される。
プルアップ回路210は、コネクタ102のCC1ピンに電流を供給する可変電流源CS1と、CC2ピンに電流を供給する可変電流源CS2と、を含む。電流源CS1,CS2が生成する電流は、複数の電流量I0~Inの(n+1)段階で切り換え可能である。I0は、シンクとなる電子機器を検出する際に使用される標準値であり、たとえば80μAである。
電流量I1~Inは、水分を検出するために使用される。たとえばn=3であり、I1=1μA、I2=10μA、I3=100μAとしてもよい。
プルアップ回路210は、スイッチSW1,SW2をさらに含む。スイッチSW1は、電流源CS1の電流の経路上に設けられ、スイッチSW2は、電流源CS2の電流の経路上に設けられる。スイッチSW1,SW2がオフとなると、電流源CS1,CS2がオフ状態となる。
電圧検出回路220は、CC1ピンの電圧V1およびCC2ピンの電圧V2を測定する。たとえば電圧検出回路220は、マルチプレクサ222およびA/Dコンバータ224を含む。マルチプレクサ222は、電圧V1、V2を受け、一方を選択する。A/Dコンバータ224は、マルチプレクサ222が選択した電圧をデジタル信号に変換する。
処理部230は、可変電流源CS1,CS2を制御する。また処理部230は、電圧検出回路220の出力にもとづいて、CC1ピン、CC2ピンに付着する水分を検出する。
放電回路240は、VBUSピンに接続されるキャパシタC1の放電のために設けられる。放電回路240は、放電抵抗Rdisおよび放電スイッチSW3を含み、オン状態とオフ状態が切り換え可能となっている。
以上がUSBインタフェース回路200および電子機器100の構成である。続いてUSBインタフェース回路200の動作を説明する。
USBインタフェース回路200は、シンクとなる機器を検出する第1モードと、水滴などの水分の付着を検出する第2モードが切りかえ可能である。第1モードおよび第2モードにおいて、プルアップ回路210のスイッチSW1,SW2はオン状態である。たとえばUSBインタフェース回路200は、第1モードと第2モードを周期的に、時分割で切り換えてもよい。
第1モードにおいて、電流源CS1,CS2が生成する電流量I0は、80μAとされる。このとき、CC1ピンに、シンクとなる機器のプルダウンRd(5.1kΩ)が接続されたとすると、CC1ピンの電圧V1は、V1=Rd×I0=0.4Vが発生する。この状態が、電圧検出回路220あるいは図示しないコンパレータによって検出されると、シンクが接続されたものと判定される。CC2ピン側についても同様である。
第2モードでは、電流源CS1が生成する電流量が、I0以外の電流量I1,I2,I3に設定される。CC1ピンにシンクとなるデバイスが接続されておらず、また水分が付着していない場合、電流量I1,I2,I3のいずれの場合も、CC1ピンの電圧V1は、電源電圧VDD=5Vとなる。CC2ピンについても同様である。
図3は、図2の電子機器100におけるCCピンとGNDピンの間の水分の検出を説明する等価回路図である。ここでは水分の影響で、CC2ピンとGNDピンの間が電気的に接続されているとする。水分の抵抗成分をRwで示す。

処理部230は、電圧V2[1]~V2[3]にもとづいて、水分の付着を検出することができる。CC1ピンとGNDピンの間の水分の付着は、CC1ピンについて同様の判定を行うことで検出できる。
続いて、CCピンと電源ラインVBUSの間の水分の付着の検出を説明する。図4は、図2の電子機器100におけるCCピンとVBUSピンの間の水分の検出を説明する等価回路図である。ここでは水分の影響で、CC1ピンとVBUSピンの間が電気的に接続されているとする。CC1ピンとVBUSピン間の水分の検出のために、放電スイッチSW3がオン状態となる。これにより、VBUS端子と接地が、放電抵抗Rdisを介して接続される。
この状態において、電流源CS2の電流量をI1,I2,I3と切りかえると、CC1ピンの電圧V1は、

処理部230は、水分を検出すると、スイッチSW1,SW2をオフとしてもよい。これにより、水分を介して流れる電流を遮断できるため、腐食を防止できる。
水分が検出された場合、スイッチSW1,SW2をオフすることに代えて、もしくはそれに加えて、電子機器100のユーザに、コネクタ102に水分の付着が付着してることを通知してもよい。具体的には、処理部230は、水分が検出されると、それを図示しないホストコントローラ(アプリケーションプロセッサ)に通知する。ホストコントローラは、この通知に応答して、ディスプレイに、水分の付着を示すメッセージを表示してもよい。

図5は、実施形態2に係る電子機器100Aの回路図である。プルアップ回路210Aは、電流源CS1,CS2に代えて、可変のプルアップ抵抗Rp1,Rp2を含む。

プルアップ抵抗Rp1,Rp2は、複数の抵抗値R0~Rnの(n+1)段階で切り換え可能である。R0は、シンクとなる電子機器を検出する際に使用される標準値であり、電流供給能力に応じて、56kΩ、22kΩ、10kΩのいずれかに設定される。

- USB(Universal Serial Bus)Type-Cのソースとなる機器に搭載されるUSBインタフェース回路であって、
コネクタのCCピンに電流を供給する可変電流源を含むプルアップ回路と、
前記CCピンの電圧を測定する電圧検出回路と、
前記可変電流源を制御するとともに、前記電圧検出回路の出力にもとづいて、前記CCピンに付着する水分を検出する処理部と、
を備える、USBインタフェース回路。 - USB(Universal Serial Bus)Type-Cのソースとなる機器に搭載されるUSBインタフェース回路であって、
コネクタのCCピンをプルアップする可変抵抗を含むプルアップ回路と、
前記CCピンの電圧を測定する電圧検出回路と、
前記可変抵抗を制御するとともに、前記電圧検出回路の出力にもとづいて、前記CCピンに付着する水分を検出する処理部と、
を備える、USBインタフェース回路。 - オン状態とオフ状態が切りかえ可能であり、前記オン状態において前記コネクタのVBUSピンを放電する放電回路をさらに備え、
前記放電回路がオンの状態で、前記処理部は、前記VBUSピンと前記CCピンの間の前記水分の付着を検出する、請求項1または2に記載のUSBインタフェース回路。 - 前記処理部による前記水分の検出を時分割で行う、請求項1または2に記載のUSBインタフェース回路。
- 前記処理部により前記水分が検出されると、前記プルアップ回路をオフする、請求項1または2に記載のUSBインタフェース回路。
- 前記電圧検出回路は、前記CCピンの電圧をデジタル値に変換するA/Dコンバータを含む、請求項1または2に記載のUSBインタフェース回路。
- ひとつの半導体基板に一体集積化される、請求項1または2に記載のUSBインタフェース回路。
- USB(Universal Serial Bus)Type-Cのソースとなる電子機器であって、
VBUSピン、CCピンを有するコネクタと、
前記CCピンに電流を供給する可変電流源を含むプルアップ回路と、
前記CCピンの電圧を測定する電圧検出回路と、
前記可変電流源を制御するとともに、前記電圧検出回路の出力にもとづいて、前記CCピンに付着する水分を検出する処理部と、

- 前記水分が検出されると、前記電子機器のユーザに通知する、請求項8または9に記載の電子機器。
