[043] According to another aspect of the invention, Figure 1 illustrates a method of formation of chewable gummy for improved skin, in accordance with the present invention. It will be understood to a skilled addressee, that the weights and other parameters are not to be considered in a strict sense and only exemplary sense for the sake of explanation. As shown in figure 1 , the method may involve the following steps: STEP 1: Paw Materials Acceptance and Storage
[044] The new suppliers are sourced, and information regarding the raw materials is collected and documented. Along with the ingredient specific Certificate of Analysis (CoA) from the suppliers by the purchasing department.
[045] The quality of the raw materials is checked as per the standards led by the authority by the Quality Assurance department, adhering to the Indian Standards of specific raw materials.
[046] After the raw materials pass the sampling test by the Quality Assurance department, it is labelled as OK-RM and passed further to the storage room. The raw materials are stored in cool and dry place in order to avoid moisture being entrapped and away from direct sunlight and heat.
[047] The acceptance of the raw materials acts as Critical Control Point 1 (CCP 1) for the process as any kind of defect in quality of raw materials can lead to unacceptance of the materials thus preventing any kind of hazard entering in the process.
STEP 2: Weighing materials
[048] The raw materials are accurately weighed according to formula requirements
[049] For 100 kg of making the gummies, the accurate weighing of raw materials is taken in account, avoiding any kind of spillage that may occur during the processing.
[050] The formulation of the gummy is calculated based on amount per serving, one gummy weighing 2.5 g, keeping the Recommended Dietary Allowance (%RDA) in consideration and not exceeding the range provided.
[051] If the %RDA is not provided for specific ingredient, example: certain natural extracts and polyols (inositol, choline), the limit is decided based on its impact on the overall composition and its impact on the body (not exceeding the tolerable upper limit even at high dosage). The excipients are then added to the list of formulation based on the specific product requirement and weighed accordingly. The raw materials are then calculated and weighed for bulk preparation as per 100 kg.
[052] The weighing of the raw materials acts as Critical Control Point 2 (CCP 2) for the process. This prevents overweighing and under weighing of the materials which may result in hazard during the process, as it may affect the end product weight.
STEP 3: Melting Pectin
[053] The pectin and glycerin are melted in the container known as Pectin Mixing Tank with High Speed Mixer.
[054] The Pectin (2.1 kg/100 kg) and Glycerin (2 kg/ 100 kg) are fully dispersed in water and stirred with high speed. The °Brix of the pectin is determined and should range between 75-80 °Brix, the value is determined with a refractometer.
It provides the gelling property to the gummies.
STEP 4: Boiling
[055] The boiling of pectin is achieved This process is time-temperature dependent.
The pectin is boiled at, but not limited to, 120°C for 45 min.
Boiling facilitates proper mixing of pectin in the water.
[056] The Sugar Solution - Sugar (37 kg/ 100 kg), Glucose (5 kg/ 100 kg) and Glucose syrup (47.672 kg/ 100 kg) is boiled in the similar way as pectin and then filtered.
STEP 5: Filtration
[057] To remove any kind of impurity that may be present in the solution (pectin solution and sugar solution), the solutions are filtered.
The filtration is done by a filter which has a sieve attached, that can be single or in a row. [058] The mesh size of the sieve varies in order to ensure that each impurity of varying size is removed from the solution.
The boiled sugar-pectin solution can also be filtered through a filter bag.
[059] The solution is then sent for aerated revolving, where it is stirred with high speed using aerodynamic aerated pump, that infuses air in the barter. Making it fluffy.
The mixing in aerodynamic aerated pump acts as Critical Control Point (CCP) as it determines the consistency of the batter.
STEP 6: Temporary storing
[060] The filtered sugar-pectin solution is pumped into the buffer tank for use.
The temporary storing allows the solution to hold.
STEP 7 Nutrient Pre-treatment
[061] The nutrients are weighed prior to mixing for adequate quantity as per the formulation prepared and adhering to the weight of the nutrients.
[062] The nutrients are pre-treated by mixing and dispersed in advance for further use. Nutrients which are temperature sensitive are mixed while keeping the temperature on note, for the vitamins which are temperature sensitive like vitamin C and vitamin B6, they are added in the process at 80°C.
[063] Nutrient pre-treatment acts as Critical Control Point 3 (CCP 3) for the process. The time-temperature treatment of the nutrients prevents the hazards from entering the process. As the degradation of even one vitamin due to high temperature might cause affect to the end product.
STEP 8: Preparation
[064] The chronology of adding ingredients is fixed and is strictly maintained during the preparation of the gummies. The pre-treated nutrients are prepared along with the mixing of flavour (Lemon), colour (titanium dioxide and purple carrot juice) and acidity regulator (citric acid and sodium citrate)
[065] Nutrients weighing Vitamin C (as Ascorbic Acid) (1 .051 kg/ 100 kg), Vitamin E (as DL-Alpha-Tocopheryl Acetate) (672 g/ 100 kg), Biotin (as D- Biotin) (1 g/ 100 kg)
[066] Extract weighing Grape Seed Extract (800 g/ 100 kg), Evening Primrose oil (400g 1 100kg), Glutathione (from Yeast Extract) (4 g/ 100 kg), Sea Buckthorn Powder (800 g/ 100 kg).
Flavour - Natural Lemon Flavour (400 g/ 100 kg)
[067] Pigments/Colours - Titanium Dioxide (200 g/ 100 kg) and Purple Carrot Juice (100 g/ 100 kg)
Acidity regulator - Citric Acid (600 g/ 100 kg) and Sodium Citrate (500 g/ 100 kg)
[068] Other constituents: Sucrose Fatty Acid Ester (300 g/ 100 kg), Cyclodextrin (200 g/ 100 kg) are done prior for their treatment as per the formulation prepared.
[069] The above ingredients can be mixed as per the requirements of the formula, in the chronological order such as Vitamin E, Sea Buckthorn Fruit Powder, Grape Seed Extract, Evening Primrose Oil, Glutathione, D-Biotin, Vitamin C and Flavours are then added along with colour, along with acidity regulator at 90°C. At the end of the stage the final Titanium Dioxide is added to give the cloudy appearance to the gummies, while maintaining the texture.
The batter is cooked in an electromagnetic cooker.
STEP 9: Drying and Pouring
[070] The starch is made into the mold by drying, in the shape of rabbit.
[071] The pouring of batter is done into the starch mold for molding, through a loop pump. [072] The loop pump sucks the batter from the cooker and transfers it to the molding machine.
STEP 10: Cooling and Shaping
[073] The gummies which have been molded are cooled and shaped under the required environments.
The gummies are cooled to 16°C (60.8°F) and allowed to sit for 22 minutes to allow them to cool and set. The gummies in the mold are transferred through the cooling tunnel for 22 minutes, this allows the gummies to cool and dry.
STEP 11: Drying
[074] The cooled product is simultaneously dried in the cooling tunnel through a dry cold air.
[075] The unmolding of the product is done after drying, the gummies that are removed from the mold through an ejector which automatically ejects the gummies from the mold with the help of buttons which are pressed from the above through a flat platform, making the gummies to fall on the surface. STEP 12: Picking and sorting
[076] The products that do not meet the requirements are removed from the lot, when they are demolded from the mold and then sent for oil coating machine.
[077] This ensures that the quality of the product is maintained and product of same size and quality passes the parameter.
STEP 13: Surface Oil Coating
[078] The gummies travel through a conveyor belt and then sent to surface oil coating machine.
[079] The gummies in the machine are rotated clockwise for about 25 minutes for drying, simultaneously they are coated with vegetable oil (Palm oil) and Carnauba Wax in the ratio of 2:1 (200 g/ 100 kg) to avoid sticking of the gummies with each other and giving them a unique appearance.
STEP 14: Packaging
[080] The inner packing materials (primary packing) are disinfected by gamma radiations in advance to prevent any hazard which may lead from the packing material.
[081] Those primary packing materials are approved which conforms to the Indian Standard.
For any traces of metal, the primary packing is tested with metal detector.
[082] After the metal detection, products are sent for outer packing (secondary packing) as per the requirements.
STEP 15: Storing
[083] Products which are packed with secondary packing are placed in the warehouse with the required environments (stored in cool, dry place with a temperature below 30° or temperature ranging from 25-30°C).
Although, the gummies have shown resistance to 40°C when kept for less than 6 hours.
[084] The chewable gummy of the present invention is required to be consumed by a user orally. The user has to put the chewable gummy inside mouth and chew it properly. After chewable gummy is chewed properly by the individual, nutrients of the compositions are mixed with saliva and get inside the body of the user.
