Abstract

In the 10th century, a group of people, the Byzantines, began to use spoons and broke with the tradition of eating with their hands. In time, Europeans also began to use this tool for eating, but only high-ranking people and nobles could use the spoon, while common people behaved the same as before. However, all nobles did not like to use spoons, including Louis XIV and Queen Elizabeth I. These two dignitaries ate with their hands like ordinary people and were not interested in using such tools. Archaeologists found a spoon from the Achaemenid period, made of a copper alloy. This spoon has a special shape and is larger than today's spoons, and its handle has a special pattern with animal shapes. In the book Persian by James Barter there is a reference to it. 1500 years ago, in the Sassanid period, there is also evidence of the existence of spoons and their use. In our country, today's Iran, spoons and forks do not have a long history and date back to the time of Naser al-Din Shah. About one hundred and thirty years ago, when Naser al-Din Shah left the country abroad, and saw these tools, he decided to bring these them to the country, although he also brought other tools, including a horse carriage. Gradually, after Naseruddin Shah used spoons to eat, other officials and great men also decided to use spoons and forks, and gradually spoons and forks were introduced in the market, and all people could get used to using spoons and forks, and considered the fork as one of the most important necessities of their household utensils and even their kitchen utensils, but there were still some people who preferred the old way of eating with their hands.
