In some embodiments, the aerosol-generating material may comprise an “amorphous solid”, which may alternatively be referred to as a “monolithic solid” (i.e. non-fibrous). In some embodiments, the amorphous solid may be a dried gel. The amorphous solid is a solid material that may retain some fluid, such as liquid, within it.
  • the aerosol-generating material may for example comprise from about 50wt%, 6owt% or 70wt% of amorphous solid, to about 90wt%, 95wt% or ioowt% of amorphous solid.

  • an issue with adding such aerosol-former materials to the aerosol generating material 2 within an article 1 for use in a non-combustible aerosol provision system can be that, when the aerosol-generating material 2 is aerosolised upon heating, it can increase the mass of aerosol which is delivered by the article 1.
  • the mouth end section 3 comprises a ventilation area 5 through which air is drawn into the mouth end section 3. Air drawn into the mouth end section 3 through the ventilation region 5 acts to cool and reduce the temperature of the mouth end segment 3.
  • the ventilation area 5 is configured such that when the mouth end section 3 is placed between a user’s lips, and an aerosol generated by the aerosol-generating material 2 is drawn into the user’s mouth through the tubular element 4 and mouth end section 3, air is drawn into the mouth end section 3 through the ventilation area 5 to cool the mouth end section 3.
  • the ventilation area 5 comprises a porous wrapper 6 wrapped around the mouth end section 3.
  • the porous wrapper 6 allows air to enter the mouth end section 3 to cool the mouth end section 3.
  • the porous wrapper 6 is configured to be partially blocked by a user’s lips to control the amount of air entering the mouth end section 3 through the ventilation area 5. Therefore, the further the user’s lips are positioned along the mouth end section 3 from the proximal end of the article 1, the less air is able to enter the mouth end section 3 through the porous wrapper 6 of the ventilation area 5.
  • the wrapped mouth end section 3 and the tubular element 4 are joined by a porous wrapper 7, such as a porous plug wrap.
  • the porous wrapper 7 connects the components together and allows air to enter the mouth end section 3 through the ventilation area 5.
  • the aerosol-generating material 2 is joined to the wrapped tubular element 4 and mouth end section 3 by a wrapper 8, such as a tipping paper.
  • the tipping paper 8 covers the tubular element 4 and extends over a portion of the aerosol-generating material 2 and a portion of the mouth end section 3.   • the wrappers 6, 7 may be regular non-porous wrappers and the ventilation area 5 may comprise a perforation pattern in the wrappers 6, 7 to allow air to enter the mouth end section 3 through the ventilation area 5.
  • the perforation pattern may comprise at least one hole configured to allow air to enter the mouth end section 3.
  • the perforation pattern could comprise a plurality of holes equally spaced around the circumference of the mouth end section 3.
  • the at least one hole could also be a slot extending in a direction along the length of the mouth end section 3 such.
  • the slot may be configured to be partially blocked by a user’s lips during use of the article 1 to control the amount of air entering the mouth end section 3 through the ventilation region 5. Therefore, the further the user’s lips are positioned along the mouth end section 3 from the proximal end of the article 1, the less air is able to enter the mouth end section 3 through the ventilation area 5.
  • the tubular element 4 comprises a ventilation area 9 configured such that the aerosol flowing through the tubular element 4 from the aerosol-generating material 2 mixes with air drawn into the tubular element 4 via the ventilation area 10. Therefore, the aerosol flowing through the article 1 is first cooled in the tubular element 4 by mixing with air drawn into the tubular element 4 via the ventilation area 9 prior to entering the mouth end section 3. This reduces the temperature of the mouth end section 3 which is further cooled by air drawn into the mouth end section 3 via the ventilation area 5. It is to be appreciated that the tubular element 4 may not comprise a ventilation area 9 and that the ventilation area 5 in the mouth end section 3 may be enough alone to cool the mouth end section 3.
  • FIG. 2 illustrates an article 1 according to another embodiment of the invention.
  • the tipping paper 8 covers the tubular element 4 and mouth end section 3 and extends over a portion of the aerosol-generating material and the ventilation area 5 comprises a perforation pattern 10 in the tipping paper 8.
  • the ventilation area 5 comprises at least one hole configured to allow air to enter the mouth end section 3.
  • the ventilation area 5 comprises a plurality of holes equally spaced around the circumference of the mouth end section 3.
  • the at least one hole may be a slot.
  • the major dimension of the slot extends in a direction along the length of the mouth end section 3 such that the slot is configured to be partially blocked by a user’s lips during use of the article 1 to control the amount of air entering the mouth end section 3 through the ventilation region 5.
  • the perforation pattern 10 may be a split 10 in the wrapper 8 which exposes the porous wrapper 7. Therefore, the porous wrapper 7 is exposed at a proximal end of the article 1 to facilitate air entering the mouth end section 3 through the porous wrapper 6 of the ventilation area 5.
  • the wrappers 6, 7 may be regular non-porous wrappers and the perforation pattern or split 10 in the wrapper 8 may extend through the wrappers 6, 7 as well.
  • the article may comprise a filtration section located between the tubular element 4 and the mouth end section 3.

  • the wrappers 6,7 and 8 are regular non-porous wrappers.
  • the wrapper 8 is a tipping paper which extends over the entire length of the mouth end section.
  • the wrappers 6, 7 and 8 are pre-perforated with a perforation pattern 10 to allow air to enter the mouth end section 3 through the ventilation area 5.
  • the wrappers 6, 7 and 8 maybe electro-perforated to create the perforation pattern 10 in the wrappers 6, 7 and 8.
  • the wrappers 6 and 7 may be porous and only the wrapper 8 is non- porous and comprises the perforation pattern 10.
