Definitions
- Wheel cover assembly vehicle having a wheel cover assembly and method of operating such a vehicle
- the present invention relates to a wheel cover device for a vehicle according to the preamble of patent claim 1, a vehicle with such a wheel cover device and a method for operating such a vehicle.
- a relatively large cutout is usually required in the wheel housing due to the space required by the steerable wheels for steering and springs, or a relatively large wheel housing with a relatively large gap between the wheel and the wheel housing is required in order to to ensure the necessary clearance between wheel and body.
- the large gap between the wheel and the wheel house has a negative effect on the aerodynamics, in particular the air resistance, and on the visual appearance of the vehicle.
- FR 2571 013 A1 describes a wheelhouse cover for a wheel arranged in a wheelhouse of a vehicle.
- the wheelhouse cover comprises an upper cover element and a lower cover element, which are pivotably connected to one another about a pivot axis extending in the longitudinal direction of the vehicle.
- the upper covering element can be pivoted on a body about a further pivot axis extending in the longitudinal direction of the vehicle of the vehicle stored.
- the bottom cover member is positioned using a four-bar linkage arrangement.
- the four-bar arrangement includes two connecting webs.
- the connecting webs are each rotatably fixed at a first end to the body of the vehicle.
- a first of the connecting webs is non-rotatably connected to the upper cover element at the second end.
- the second connecting bar is rotatably connected to the lower cover member at the second end.
- the upper cover element can be pivoted about the further pivot axis by means of an adjusting device which is connected to the upper cover element, with a position of the lower cover element being able to be controlled by means of the four-bar arrangement.
- the wheelhouse cover from FR 2571 013 A1 therefore requires two connecting webs, which form a four-bar arrangement.
- the four-bar arrangement requires a large amount of space in the wheel house.
- the connecting webs each require a vehicle-fixed or body-fixed connection point.
- the wheelhouse cover known from FR 2571 013 A1 is therefore structurally complex and requires a lot of space in the wheelhouse.
- the object of the present invention is to provide a wheel cover device for a vehicle with a positioning device for positioning a lower flat section relative to an upper flat section, which has a small installation space requirement in the wheelhouse and is designed structurally simple, in particular includes as few connection points on the body. Furthermore, it is an object of the present invention to provide a vehicle with such a wheel cover device and a method for operating such a vehicle
- a wheel cover device for a vehicle which has an upper flat section for at least partially covering the outside of a steerable wheel, which is at least partially arranged in a wheel housing of the vehicle, a lower flat section for at least partially covering the outside of the steerable wheel, an adjustment device for adjusting a position and/or orientation of the upper flat section and a positioning device for positioning the lower flat section.
- the upper flat section can be arranged on a body of the vehicle so as to be pivotable about a first pivot axis extending in the longitudinal direction of the vehicle.
- the upper flat section and the lower flat section are connected to one another such that they can pivot about a second pivot axis extending in the longitudinal direction of the vehicle.
- the upper flat section can be moved relative to the wheel house by means of the adjusting device.
- the positioning device is a traction drive, in particular a belt drive.
- the core idea of the invention is therefore to position the lower flat section relative to the upper flat section and the body by means of the traction mechanism. Due to the use of the traction drive as a positioning device, there is no vehicle connection point in comparison to the four-bar arrangement known from the prior art. In addition, the positioning device of the wheel cover device according to the invention requires little installation space in the wheel house.
- the positioning device comprises a first shaft, a second shaft and a traction mechanism or a drive belt, in particular a toothed belt.
- the first shaft can be mounted on the body of the vehicle in a rotationally fixed or rotationally rigid manner and serves as a guide for the traction mechanism.
- the traction means is arranged on the first shaft and the second shaft or wraps around them.
- the lower flat section is connected to the second shaft in a rotationally fixed or rotationally rigid manner.
- the second shaft When the upper flat section is pivoted about the first pivot axis, the second shaft is thus moved counter to a pivoting direction of the upper flat section Section turned or rotated. Due to the rotation of the second shaft, which is rotationally connected to the lower flat section, the lower flat section is pivoted counter to the pivoting direction of the upper flat section relative to the upper flat section. A position of the lower flat section relative to the upper flat section can thus be precisely controlled by means of the positioning device.
- the second shaft is, for example, rotatably or rotatably mounted or connected to the upper flat section.
- the first shaft and the second shaft have the same diameter.
- the lower flat section is pivoted in the opposite direction by this specific angle.
- the result is a pivoting angle of zero degrees for the lower flat section relative to the vehicle body. This ensures parallel guidance of the lower flat section relative to the body.
- the positioning device comprises a tension roller for tensioning the traction means on the first shaft and the second shaft.
- the tensioning pulley enables vibrations in the traction means to be damped.
- a tension of the traction means on the first shaft, the second shaft and the tensioning roller can thus be kept low without negatively influencing the noise behavior of the positioning device.
- the low tension of the traction device extends its service life.
- the first shaft, the second shaft and the idler pulley span a triangle, for example.
- the tension roller can be rotatably mounted on the upper flat section.
- the upper flat section can be pivotally mounted on the body of the vehicle by means of a connecting web.
- the wheel cover device can be adapted to the installation space conditions of the vehicle, in particular the wheel house, by means of the connecting web.
- the connecting web can be pivotably connected to the body at a first end.
- the second shaft is rotatably or rotatably arranged at a second end of the connecting web.
- the adjusting device can be rotatably connected to the connecting web.
- an adjustment movement generated by the adjustment device can be transmitted to the upper flat section via the connecting web.
- the tension roller is rotatably mounted, for example, on the connecting web, in particular on a side of the connecting web facing away from the upper flat section.
- a vehicle comprising a wheel cover as described above, which at least partially covers a wheel outside of a steerable wheel that is at least partially arranged in a wheel house of the vehicle.
- a method for operating a vehicle described above comprising the following steps: detecting an operating state of the vehicle; determining whether pivoting of the upper planar portion of the wheel cover device about the first pivot axis is required based on the sensed operational state of the vehicle; and if it is determined that pivoting of the upper sheet portion of the wheel cover device is required, pivoting the upper sheet portion by the adjustment device.
- FIG. 1 is a perspective view of a wheel cover device according to FIG.
- FIG. 2 is a rear view of the wheel cover assembly and steerable wheels of FIG. 1 ;
- FIG. 3 shows another perspective view of the wheel covering device and the steerable wheels from FIG. 1 , with the wheel covering device being pivoted and the steerable wheels being turned;
- FIG. 4 shows a side view of the wheel covering device from FIG. 1 ;
- FIG. 5 shows a rear view of the wheel cover device from FIG. 1 without an adjustment device, the wheel cover device being pivoted
- Fig. 6 is a sectional view along line VI-VI in Fig. 4.
- a wheel covering device 2 according to the invention is shown together with two steerable wheels 12 of a vehicle, not shown.
- the wheel cover device 2 includes a left wheel cover device area, a right wheel cover device area, and an adjusting device 22.
- the adjusting device 22 extends in the vehicle transverse direction and connects the left wheel cover assembly area with the right wheel cover assembly area.
- the adjusting device 22 comprises a rotary actuator 24, a drive rod 26 and two driven rods 28.
- the drive rod 26 is arranged on the rotary actuator 24 in such a way that it is non-rotatable or rotationally rigid such that it intersects a rotary axis or axis of rotation of the rotary actuator 24.
- a first of the output rods 28 is rotatably connected at a first end to a first end of the drive rod 26 .
- the second output rod 28 is rotatably connected at a first end to the second end of the drive rod 26 . Consequently, the driven rods 28 are acted upon by the drive rod 26 with forces acting in opposite directions in the transverse direction of the vehicle.
- the output rods 28 are connected to a connecting web 14 of the left wheel cover device area and the right wheel cover device area.
- the left wheel cover device area and the right wheel cover device area are mirror-symmetrical to one another.
- the plane of symmetry extends in the longitudinal direction of the vehicle and in the vertical direction of the vehicle.
- the left wheel cover device area and the right wheel cover device area each comprise an upper flat section 4, a lower flat section 6, the connecting web 14 and a positioning device 8.
- the upper flat section 4 is mounted on a body 30 of the vehicle via the connecting web 14 such that it can be pivoted about a first pivot axis extending in the longitudinal direction of the vehicle.
- the upper flat section 4 and the lower flat section 6 are connected to one another via hinges 10 such that they can be pivoted relative to one another about a second pivot axis.
- the positioning device 8 comprises a first shaft 16, a second shaft 18 and a traction mechanism 20.
- the first shaft 16 is mounted on the body 30 so as to prevent it from rotating.
- the second shaft 18 is rotatably mounted on the upper planar section 4 and is rotationally connected to the lower planar section 6 .
- the traction means 20 is arranged or clamped on the first shaft 16 and the second shaft 18 .
- the upper flat sections 4 each experience a force acting in the transverse direction of the vehicle via the connecting webs 14, which causes the connecting web 14 and the upper flat section 4 to pivot about the first pivot axis.
- the force acting on the top sheet portion 4 of the left wheel cover assembly area acts in the opposite direction to the force acting on the top sheet portion 4 of the right wheel cover assembly portion. That is, the upper sheet portion 4 of the left wheel cover assembly portion is pivoted in a pivoting direction opposite to the pivoting direction of the upper sheet portion 4 of the right wheel cover assembly portion.
- the pivoting of the upper flat sections 4 and the connecting webs 14, on each of which a second shaft 18 is rotatably arranged causes, together with the first shafts 16, which are arranged in a rotationally fixed manner on the body, and the traction means 20, which are each on a respective of the first shafts 16 and a respective one of the second shafts 18 are tensioned, rotation of the second shafts 18.
- the second shafts 18 are each rotated in a rotational direction opposite to the pivoting direction of the respective upper planar portion 4.
- the diameter of the first shafts 16 corresponds to the diameter of the second shafts 18.
- the pivoting angle of the upper flat sections 4 is the same the negative pivoting angle of a relevant one of the lower flat sections 6. In total, therefore, a resulting pivoting angle of zero degrees arises for the lower flat sections 6 in each case relative to the body.
