Description

A METHOD FOR THE PRODUCTION OF EMBLEMS OR SIMILAR DECORATIVE ELEMENTS
Technical Field
The invention relates to emblems or decorative elements used to represent symbols or signs applied to the bodies of motor vehicles to identify the manufacturer.
In particular, the invention relates to the method of producing said emblems in a single process within a single mold, which has the function of representing a symbol consisting of multiple parts and containing a commercial name, a graphic image. An innovative manufacturing process is introduced, especially used in the production of emblems where chrome-plated and uncoated plastic components are combined on the same part.
Prior Art
Today, it is known that symbols applied to the bodies of motor vehicles or emblems or decorative elements used to represent signs are used to identify their manufacturers. Emblems generally have the function of representing a symbol containing a brand name, a word, and/or a graphic image. In this sense, emblems are produced in a form that will attract the attention of users and show the manufacturer. Emblems, especially used on the front faces of motor vehicles, consist of a metallic main body on which the outline of the symbol to be displayed is formed as a relief. A 3D design is created by giving the emblem a depth effect with the metallic body that forms the main body of the emblem and the transparent or incisive plastic/glass material that forms the interior.
Emblems made of plastic material used in the applications of the prior art are also known. To make these known emblems, during a molding phase, a body of transparent plastic material is initially created by pressing on the back surface of hollow areas that define the shape of the symbol to be visualized. Then, a colored and opaque layer is applied only to the lower back surface of the emblem, avoiding hollow areas that define the symbol, and then subjected to a metallization process through vacuum aluminum evaporation, including the entire back surface of the emblem, hence the hollow areas of the symbol. Therefore, the emblem obtained by this known method includes a front transparent layer with a glossy outer surface, in which the symbol to be visualized is created as a relief with a metallic appearance, protruding from the opaque background. Although this known method has the advantage of adapting to volumetric production, the emblems produced by this method have weak depth properties and therefore have a flat appearance, which is slightly different from a two-dimensional image. Because the outer glossy surface of the emblem reflects the light on it in a dominant way compared to the lower surface where the decoration comes out.
In addition to state of the art, the European Patent no. EP1927480, which is owned by Zanini SPA, proposes a method to create a more aesthetic emblem for the application of a delicate depth effect. However, in this method, there are many process steps such as applying a transparent layer to the back surface, applying a metallic layer, and applying a pigmented paint layer, and these process steps make the production process both more difficult and costly.
However, in the emblems produced with the production models belonging to the previous technique, the metal parts and plastic areas covered in the emblems are produced in different processes and then combined; therefore, the decomposition of the coated and plastic parts during use causes deformations to occur in these decomposition zones due to environmental conditions. Especially in emblems used in the external environment, deformations caused by water leakage between these two parts are widely known.
The method of the invention, developed to eliminate all the disadvantages of the applications of the known state of the technique described above, is to propose a method that enables the industrial production of emblems with better aesthetic properties than the known ones, suitable for volume production.
When all the technical literature and patent applications, which are given above only as examples and which we use to understand the previous technique, and all the technical literature and patent applications presented together with some applications belonging to the prior art are evaluated together, a production method for obtaining the chrome- plated part and the other plastic component by processing in the same mold was not found. Here, in the case of plastic injection on the chrome-plated part, it is expected that there will be a homogeneous coating on each surface of the chrome-plated material to achieve the desired result. In this sense, the chrome plating processes and the related chrome plating hanger in the patent application numbered W02020106253 of the inventor eliminates the homogeneity problem.
The Objects of the Invention
The purpose of the invention, developed to eliminate all the disadvantages of the applications of the known state of the technique, is to propose a method that enables the industrial production of emblems with better aesthetic properties than the known ones, suitable for volume production.
The object of the invention is to ensure longer-lasting use of emblems. In fact, with the said production method, the metal body (chrome plated part) and the plastic component used in between are processed together in the same mold, resulting in a much more stable product.
The object of the invention is to present a production method that provides lower production costs. Processing the chrome-plated component and the other plastic component together in the same mold eliminates decomposition and assembly workmanship problems.
Another object of the invention is to ensure that the precision or delicate depth effect is applied on emblems.
In order to fulfill the objects mentioned above, the invention is characterized as providing an emblem or a similar decorative element specially adapted to apply to a motor vehicle, which is obtained by placing the chrome-plated body on the injection mold after it comes out of the plating process, and by printing the plastic part on this chrome-plated body by plastic injection method.
In order to accomplish all the advantages mentioned above and to be understood from the following detailed description, the present invention provides many advantages with respect to said features.
Detailed Description of the Invention
In this detailed description, the method of the invention, developed to eliminate all the disadvantages of the applications of the known state of the technique, is explained as proposing a method that enables the industrial production of emblems with better aesthetic properties than the known ones, suitable for volume production. The emblems or decorative elements used, especially in motor vehicles, generally comprise a chrome-plated body and plastic components used to fill the hollow parts of this body. As stated in the sections above where the applications of the prior art are explained, the disadvantages that arise in the emblems obtained by combining the chrome-plated main body and the plastic part to be placed in the gaps with assembly operations have made it necessary to make an improvement in this field regarding the production method.
In the production method of the invention, in products where chrome-plated and plastic components form a visual, such as an emblem or a similar decorative element, the visual part of the part that should be chrome-plated is placed in the injection mold after the coating process and the plastic part is printed on this chrome-plated visual part.
In this sense, the chrome-plated body and the plastic part to be placed in the cavities were prevented from being produced in different processes at first hand and then combined; and this process was provided by plastic injection method on the chrome- plated body in a single mold.
Products that will be produced by the production method of the invention will not be limited to emblems only. The definition of decorative elements expressed in all narratives includes the products that are used in automotive or different sectors (white goods, furniture, etc.) in which chrome-plated and plastic components create visuals together. For example, this method can be used for bumpers and similar chrome-plated parts used in motor vehicles; and it can also be used in the production of products of different sizes and appearances in various sectors. In this sense, the fact that the invention presents a method to be used in many alternative products will eliminate the disadvantages of existing production methods.
