<実施の形態の構成>
まず、図1を参照して、本実施の形態に係るLEO衛星システムの全体構成例について説明する。図1に示されるように、本実施の形態に係るLEO衛星システムは、LEO衛星コンステレーションを構成するLEO衛星10-1~10-5を備えている。なお、図1において、LEO衛星10-1~10-4は、同一の軌道面を移動し、LEO衛星10-5は、LEO衛星10-1~10-4とは異なる軌道面を移動しているとする。
また、図1では、5つのLEO衛星10-1~10-5が設けられているが、LEO衛星10の数は2つ以上であれば良い。
光フェーズドアレイ13は、LEO衛星10-1とは異なる軌道面の他のLEO衛星10を捕捉するために使用される。
制御部16は、投光素子11及び受光素子14を制御すると共に、光学望遠鏡12又は光フェーズドアレイ13を使用して、他のLEO衛星10を捕捉する。
なお、光学望遠鏡12、光フェーズドアレイ13、及び制御部16の詳細については後述する。
続いて、本実施の形態に係るLEO衛星システムの動作について説明する。
まず、測距部15における測距方式の例について説明する。測距部15は、以下で述べる測距方式の中から任意の測距方式を用いて、距離を測定すれば良い。以下では、LEO衛星10-1の測距部15が、同一軌道面のLEO衛星10-2までの距離を測定する場合を例に挙げて説明する。ただし、以下で述べる測距方式は、LEO衛星10-1の測距部15が、異なる軌道面のLEO衛星10-5までの距離を測定する場合にも適用可能である。
まず、反射式の測距方式について説明する。
反射式の測距方式では、図3に示されるように、LEO衛星10-1は、LEO衛星10-2に出射光を出射し、その出射光がLEO衛星10-2にて反射した反射光を受光する。そして、LEO衛星10-1の測距部15は、出射光及び反射光の少なくとも1つに基づいて、LEO衛星10-1からLEO衛星10-2までの距離を測定する。
まず、図4を参照して、パルス伝播方式について説明する。
図4に示されるように、パルス伝播方式では、出射光を一定のパルス幅を持つ矩形波とする。LEO衛星10-1の測距部15は、パルスが出射光として出射されてから、そのパルスが反射光として受光されるまので時間tを計測する。そして、LEO衛星10-1の測距部15は、光速cを用いて、LEO衛星10-1からLEO衛星10-2までの距離Lを、以下の数式により計算する。

続いて、図5を参照して、位相差距離方式について説明する。
図5に示されるように、位相差距離方式では、出射光を正弦波とする。出射光と反射光との位相差は、LEO衛星10-1からLEO衛星10-2までの距離Lに応じて、変化する。そのため、LEO衛星10-1の測距部15は、出射光と反射光との位相差に基づいて、距離Lを計算する。
続いて、図6を参照して、三角測距方式について説明する。
図6に示されるように、LEO衛星10-2にて反射した反射光は、LEO衛星10-1の受光素子14にて受光される。このとき、反射光が受光された受光素子14上の位置は、LEO衛星10-1からLEO衛星10-2までの距離Lに応じて、変化する。図5の例では、LEO衛星10-2が位置Aにいるときと、位置Bにいるときと、で、距離Lが異なり、その結果、反射光が受光された受光素子14上の位置も変化している。そのため、LEO衛星10-1の測距部15は、反射光が受光された受光素子14上の位置に基づいて、距離Lを計算する。
続いて、双方向送受信式の測距方式について説明する。
双方向送受信式の測距方式では、図7に示されるように、LEO衛星10-1の投光素子11が出射光を出射し、その出射光をLEO衛星10-2の受光素子14が受光する。また、LEO衛星10-2の投光素子11も出射光を出射し、その出射光をLEO衛星10-1の受光素子14が受光する。
また、光フェーズドアレイ13は、シリコンの微細加工技術に基づく光導波路を用いて実現することが好適である。
上述したように、本実施の形態によれば、制御部16は、投光素子11から出射された出射光を走査することによって、他のLEO衛星10を捕捉し、他のLEO衛星10からの入射光を受光素子14に受光させる。このとき、制御部16は、他のLEO衛星10が同一軌道面のLEO衛星10である場合は、光学望遠鏡12を用いて捕捉を行い、他のLEO衛星10が異なる軌道面のLEO衛星10である場合は、光フェーズドアレイ13を用いて捕捉を行う。そして、測距部15は、出射光及び入射光の少なくとも1つに基づいて、他のLEO衛星10までの距離を測定する。
続いて、図11を参照して、上述した実施の形態に係るLEO衛星10の一部又は全部の処理を実現するコンピュータ90のハードウェア構成例について説明する。図11に示されるコンピュータ90は、プロセッサ91及びメモリ92を備えている。

受光素子により、前記他のLEO衛星からのレーザ光を入射光として受光するステップと、
前記出射光及び前記入射光の少なくとも1つに基づいて、前記LEO衛星から前記他のLEO衛星までの距離を測定するステップと、
前記投光素子及び前記受光素子を制御する制御ステップと、を含み、
前記制御ステップでは、
前記LEO衛星と同一軌道面の前記他のLEO衛星については、光学望遠鏡を用いて、前記投光素子から出射された前記出射光を走査することによって、前記他のLEO衛星を捕捉して、前記他のLEO衛星からの前記入射光を前記受光素子に受光させ、
前記LEO衛星とは異なる軌道面の前記他のLEO衛星については、光フェーズドアレイを用いて、前記投光素子から出射された前記出射光を走査することによって、前記他のLEO衛星を捕捉して、前記他のLEO衛星からの前記入射光を前記受光素子に受光させる、
