Furthermore, the sample TiO 2 -air-H-air obtained by heating this TiO 2 -air-H again in air was white and exhibited a spectrum similar to that of TiO 2 -air, and did not exhibit absorption in the visible to near-infrared region. . Therefore, it was suggested that the peculiar absorption observed in the absorption spectra of TiO 2 --H and 1Cu--TiO 2 --H was caused by hydrogen being incorporated into the lattice near the TiO 2 surface.
- FIG. 11 shows the results of C 1s XPS measurements of xCu--TiO 2 -air and xCu--TiO 2 -H for the purpose of detecting carbon from the organotitanium source that may be doped in the TiO 2 lattice.
- Doped carbon exhibits a peak attributed to carbon ions at about 281.8 eV, which is different from the main peak of impurity-derived C1s with a binding energy of 284.6 eV (CC). As shown in FIG.
- xCu--TiO 2 -air and xCu--TiO 2 -H did not have a carbon ion peak (281.8 eV), and no significant difference was observed between the catalysts. Therefore, it was confirmed that the absorption in the visible region observed in the ultraviolet/visible absorption spectrum of xCu—TiO 2 —H is not due to doped carbon.

- the horizontal axis of FIG. 15 indicates current density (mAcm ⁇ 2 ), the first vertical axis indicates Faraday efficiency (%), and the second vertical axis indicates IR free voltage (V vs. RHE).

(hνα)1/n=A(hν-Eg) (1)
(hνF(R∞))1/n=A(hν-Eg) (2)

E(vs.RHE)=E(vs.Hg/HgO)+0.098V+0.0591V×pH
