  • Steel slag is the industrial waste resulting from the steel refining process in a conversion furnace. It is estimated that Indian steel production capacity will rise to 300 Mt by 2030 from the current capacity of about 140 Mt. The production of blast furnace slag and Linz Donawitz slag (LD slag) would raise to 27 Mt and 12 Mt, respectively according to FICCI report, 2019.
  • Linz- Donawitz slag is one of the major industrial by-products generated during steel making.
  • This LD slag is highly basic in nature as it is rich in calcium bearing mineral phases like mono, di and tri calcium silicates along with free lime and some metallic iron.
  • This metallic iron is recovered from a waste recycling plant (WRP) through a series of sequential steps such as water quenching, solidification and by using a series of magnetic separators.
