Abstract

The idea consists of a two levels floating sustainable energy deck (platform). The first deck (bottom) is dedicated for Biomass production due to the availability of irrigation water, which will ensure a sustainable renewable supply of biofuel. The second deck (upper) is dedicated for the photovoltaic/CSP panels, which will be responsible for supplying energy for the main grid, the floating deck and providing shade for the biomass.

Description

Description
Title of Invention : Floating Bio-Solar Platform
[0001] [Maximizing the energy output of floating renewable energy platforms
Technical Field
[0002] Renewable Energy
Summary of Invention
[0003] The invention consists of a double decker floating platform.
[0004] The first deck (Bottom) is dedicated for Biomass production due to the availability of irrigation water, which will ensure a sustainable renewable supply of biofuel.
[0005] The second deck (Upper) is dedicated for the photovoltaic/CSP panels, which will be responsible for supplying energy for the main grid, the floating platform and providing shade for the biomass.
Technical Problem
[0006] Generating energy from hydro dams is not sustainable as it depends on the level of water in the reservoirs.
[0007] Photovoltaic/CSP panels depends on solar radiation and they are inefficient in poor weather.
Solution to Problem
[0008] This invention provides a solution that will maximize the generated energy from any floating platform, by building two levels floating platform.
[0009] The first level (Bottom) will be dedicated for hydroponic and biomass cultivation, which will be used to produce biofuel (e.g. Algae)
[0010] The second level (Upper) will be dedicated for photovoltaic/CSP panels, which will feed the electricity grid, provide the platform with the needed energy, and provide shade for the biomass. Advantageous Effects of Invention
[0011] Land Limitation: The floating biomass platform will occupy the same area of the PV/CSP panels, and will avoid extra land occupancy, especially in land scarce countries.
[0012] Installation and Maintenance: floating biomass plants are easy to maintain and irrigate as the source of water is beneath the platform.
[0013] Evaporation and shading: the platform will prevent the evaporation of the water from the reservoir and will prevent overheating for the biomass. The saved water will be used to irrigate the biomass, which will be turned into biofuel.
[0014] Environment control: Reducing algae bloom and using biomass like algae for water filtration.
[0015] Efficiency: Significant improvement in the platform efficiency and productivity. The production of biomass will compensate the inefficiency solar panels during poor weather.
Brief Description of Drawings
[0016] Below is a figure of one Bio-Solar unit. It consists of two-level floating unit, Bottom level to produce biomass (e.g. Algae) and upper level to produce solar energy. One floating platform will consist of hundreds of the Bio-Solar units.
