Definitions
- the invention relates to a tank ventilation device of a motor vehicle.
- tank ventilation valve In gasoline-powered motor vehicles, fuel gases are discharged from the fuel tank via a tank ventilation line, temporarily stored in an adsorption filter and then fed to the gasoline engine for combustion.
- the discharged fuel gases are metered via a tank ventilation valve, which can assume the states of completely open and completely closed.
- the tank ventilation valve can be controlled by means of a PWM signal provided by the engine control of the motor vehicle.
- the frequency of one period of the PWM signal is constant. It is 10 Hz, for example. This corresponds to a period of 100 ms.
- the tank ventilation valve is in the open state during an adjustable portion of this period and in the closed state during the remaining time of this period.
- tank ventilation valves When the tank ventilation valve is activated in a clocked manner, there are disadvantages with regard to the acoustics and an uneven distribution of the tank ventilation gases to the individual cylinders of the motor vehicle. This can lead to a loss of comfort for the occupants of the motor vehicle, for example to uneven engine operation, idle speed fluctuations, vibrations or engine noise. Furthermore, the pressure waves induced by the clocked actuation of the tank ventilation valve make determination more difficult of the gas composition using pressure measurements. Furthermore, if an electric scavenging pump is used, this scavenging pump is exposed to a high thermal load, since there is no cooling effect due to convection when pumping against the closed tank ventilation valve. A complete shutdown of the pump should be avoided in order to shorten response times. Furthermore, tank ventilation valves are subject to manufacturing tolerances. This is reflected in different opening duty cycles. Therefore, the respective opening point must first be determined with the help of an additional control unit function.
- the object of the invention is to specify a tank ventilation device in which the disadvantages mentioned above are reduced.
- the tank ventilation device specified in claim 1 has a scavenging line which is arranged between an activated charcoal canister and an intake tract of the motor vehicle and in which an electrically driven scavenging pump is arranged. Furthermore, an electrically controllable directional control valve is provided in the scavenging line between the activated charcoal canister and the electrically driven scavenging pump.
- Such a tank ventilation device makes it possible to reduce the acoustic problems that occur with known tank ventilation devices and the thermal load on an electrically driven scavenging pump provided in the scavenging line. Furthermore, such a tank ventilation device allows a more robust determination of the composition of the tank ventilation gases compared to known tank ventilation devices.
- the electrically controllable directional valve has a first input and a second input, the first Input is connected to the activated charcoal canister and the second input is connected to a fresh air filter.
- the second input of the electrically controllable directional control valve is connected to the fresh air filter via a shut-off valve.
- a pressure sensor is arranged in the flushing line between the output of the electrically controllable directional control valve and the electrically driven flushing pump.
- a throttle point is arranged in the scavenging line between the electrically driven scavenging pump and the intake tract.
- a pressure sensor is arranged in the scavenging line between the electrically driven scavenging pump and the intake tract.
- the pressure sensor is arranged between the electrically driven scavenging pump and the throttle point.
- the tank ventilation device has a control unit that is designed to control the electrically driven scavenging pump and the electrically controllable directional control valve.
- control unit is designed to receive the output signals of the pressure sensors.
- control unit is designed to activate the shut-off valve.
- electrically controllable directional valve is continuously adjustable.
- the electrically controllable directional valve is formed by two separate digitally switchable valves.
- the invention relates to a method for operating a tank ventilation device, in which tank ventilation gases stored in an activated carbon canister are conveyed into an intake tract of a motor vehicle via a scavenging line in which there is an electrically controllable scavenging pump, the tank ventilation gases being conveyed via a device arranged in the scavenging line , Electrically controllable directional valve are routed.
- the tank ventilation gases are routed via an electrically controllable directional control valve arranged in the scavenging line and mixed with fresh air in the directional control valve.

- the compressor 11 arranged in the intake tract 10 is part of an exhaust gas turbocharger, which also includes a turbine (not shown).
- the control unit 12 is supplied with the output signals of the two pressure sensors 3 and 4 and other sensor signals, for example sensor signals which are from a speed sensor, a crankshaft sensor, a camshaft sensor, an accelerator pedal sensor and one or more temperature sensors.
- the control unit 12 is designed to evaluate the sensor signals supplied to it, which include the output signals of the pressure sensors 3 and 4, on the basis of a stored work program and to provide control signals for the shut-off valve 7, the directional control valve 8 and the scavenging pump 2.
- control unit 12 is designed to control onboard diagnostic algorithms in order to carry out a legally prescribed onboard diagnosis.
- a flow can be directed from the fresh air filter 9b through the shut-off valve 7 and the directional valve 8 via the scavenging pump 2 and the throttle point 5 into the intake tract 10 during the scavenging phase of the activated charcoal canister 1, or a flow can be directed from the activated charcoal filter 1 via the directional control valve 8, the scavenging pump 2 and the throttle point 5 into the intake tract 10.
- the hydrocarbon gases can be metered into the intake tract by using intermediate positions of the directional control valve.
- such a regulation of the amount of hydrocarbon introduced into the intake tract 10 is primarily based on a hydrocarbon concentration of the purge gas determined by the control unit 12 and not, as in known tank ventilation systems, on the total mass flow of the tank ventilation gas. This corresponds to a qualitative regulation instead of a quantitative regulation, as is the case with known tank ventilation systems.
- the control signals required to implement the above-mentioned qualitative regulation of the shut-off valve 7, the directional control valve 8 and the scavenging pump 2 are provided by the engine control 12, in whose software the necessary functionality is implemented.
- this functionality includes, among other things, determining the composition, the density and the required quantity of the flushing gas using the output signals from the pressure sensors 3 and 4, determining a required speed of the flushing pump 2 and determining the required position of the Directional valve 8.
- the functionality mentioned also includes also a generation of said control signals in such a way that a temperature protection of the scavenging pump is provided.
- the density of the scavenging gas can be determined from the differential pressure measured across the scavenging pump and the pump speed. In a good approximation, the density is directly proportional to the measured differential pressure.
- the hydrocarbon concentration of the flushing gas can be determined from this gas density and the ambient temperature and ambient pressure that are also measured.
- the flow through the throttle point 5 can be determined as follows:
- T 3 temperature in front of throttle 5 [K] p cr .
- Critical pressure ratio [-], defined as p cr The target hydrocarbon concentration of the scavenging gas can be determined with a known total mass flow through the throttle point and a target hydrocarbon mass flow predetermined by the engine operating point into the intake tract of the internal combustion engine.
- the hydrocarbon concentration of the purge gas is regulated by the position of the directional control valve.
- the engine control unit sets the required hydrocarbon concentration using a control circuit, such as a PID controller. The procedure described is run through iteratively.
- the directional control valve is controlled in such a way that the flushing pump delivers clean air into the intake tract of the combustion engine. In this way, thermally critical operating points, at which the scavenging pump delivers against a closed valve, can be avoided.
- the pump is cooled by convection at every operating point at which the scavenging pump is operated.
- the qualitative regulation described above simplifies the tank ventilation system that has an electrically driven scavenging pump 2, reduces acoustic problems that occur in known tank ventilation systems that have a clock valve, and reduces thermal problems of the electrically driven scavenging pump 2. Furthermore, the tank ventilation system according to the invention allows a more robust determination of the composition of the tank ventilation gases due to smoother pressure curves without induced pressure waves of clocking. Furthermore, the signal filtering can be simplified or implemented with less attenuation. The consequence of this is that the determination of the composition of the tank ventilation gases is accelerated.
- a further advantage of the invention consists in minimizing the centrifuge effect and the backflow effects, since there is no delivery against a closed valve.
- FIG. 2 shows a sketch to explain a second exemplary embodiment of a tank ventilation device according to the invention.

- One port of the valve 13 is connected to the fresh air filter 9a.
- the other connection of the valve 13 is connected to the flushing line 15 upstream of the pressure sensor 4 .
- the control unit 12 also applies control signals to the valve 14 .
- a connection of the valve 14 is connected to the activated carbon filter 1 .
- the other connection of the valve 14 is also connected to the flushing line 15 upstream of the pressure sensor 4 .
- the control unit 12 controls the valves 13 and 14 in such a way that a respectively desired mixture of fresh air with the tank ventilation gas is conducted into the intake tract, so that a desired hydrocarbon gas concentration reaches the intake tract 10 .
- the other components of the device shown in FIG. 2 correspond to the correspondingly numbered components of FIG.
- the exemplary embodiments of the invention described above differ from known tank ventilation devices in that they do not have a clock valve.
- advantages in terms of vehicle acoustics equal distribution of the scavenging gases to the cylinders of the vehicle, which has positive effects on smooth running and raw emissions of the vehicle, and an increase in the scavenging throughput due to the elimination of the need for a strong throttle point can be achieved.
- the invention enables an increase in accuracy and robustness when determining the composition of the scavenging gas and determining the flow through the throttle point 5.
- the thermal load on the electrically controllable scavenging pump 2 arranged in the scavenging line 15 is reduced, thereby extending its service life.
- the delivery of the tank ventilation gases into the intake tract of the motor vehicle is regulated as a function of the hydrocarbon concentration.

Description
Beschreibung
