Description

映像表示装置および輝度補正方法
 本願明細書に開示される技術は、映像表示技術に関するものである。
 発光ダイオード(Light Emitting Diode、すなわち、LED)を有する映像表示装置は、LEDの技術発展および低コスト化に伴い、屋外または屋内における広告表示などのために使用される機会が増えつつある。
 これまで、LEDを有する映像表示装置は、自然画またはアニメーションなどの動画像(映像)を表示することが主であった。しかしながら、近年、屋内用途のLEDを有する映像表示装置において、画素ピッチの狭ピッチ化が進んでおり、それに伴って、屋内用途の映像表示装置の視認距離が短くなっている。屋内用途では、たとえば、会議室用途または監視用途などのために映像表示装置が使用されている。特に、監視用途の映像表示装置が、たとえば、静止画に近いパソコン画像を表示することが多くなっている。
 映像表示装置が有する複数のLEDの輝度特性には、ばらつきが存在する。そのため、映像表示装置の表示面に輝度ムラなどが発生する。たとえば、特許文献1(特開平11-015437号公報)では、輝度ムラを軽減するための構成(以下、「関連構成A」とも称する)が開示されている。関連構成Aでは、画素としてのそれぞれのLEDの輝度が、補正係数に基づいて補正される。これによって、映像表示面におけるそれぞれのLEDの輝度特性の均一化が実現されている。

 LEDを有する映像表示装置は、複数のLEDが配列されている映像表示面を有する。LEDの発光輝度は温度の影響を受けるため、LEDが高い輝度で発光するとLEDの温度が上昇し、結果としてLEDの輝度が低下することが知られている。
 このため、たとえば特許文献1に例が示されるように、あらかじめ測定されたそれぞれの画素の輝度に基づいて算出された補正係数を用いて、それぞれの画素の輝度を補正する方法が考えられる。しかしながら、この方法では、補正する時点でのそれぞれのLEDの温度差によって生じる輝度差までは補正することができない場合がある。
 本願明細書に開示される技術は、以上に記載されたような問題を鑑みてなされたものであり、映像表示面に配列された複数のLEDの、温度差に起因する輝度ムラを軽減するための技術である。
 本願明細書に開示される技術の第1の態様である映像表示装置は、複数のLEDが配列された表示部を有する映像表示装置であり、複数の前記LEDのうちの1つに対応する映像信号の複数のフレームに基づいて、輝度情報を算出する輝度情報算出部と、前記LEDの輝度と前記LEDの温度との関係を示す第1の関数と、前記輝度情報とに基づいて、前記LEDの温度を算出する画素温度算出部と、前記LEDの温度と前記LEDの温度補正係数との関係を示す第2の関数と、前記画素温度算出部において算出された前記LEDの温度とに基づいて、前記LEDの前記温度補正係数を算出する温度補正係数算出部と、前記LEDの前記温度補正係数に基づいて、対応する前記映像信号を補正する補正部と、補正された前記映像信号に基づいて、前記表示部に配列された対応する前記LEDを駆動する駆動部とを備える。
 本願明細書に開示される技術の少なくとも第1の態様によれば、複数のLEDの、温度差に起因する輝度ムラを軽減することができる。
 また、本願明細書に開示される技術に関連する目的と、特徴と、局面と、利点とは、以下に示される詳細な説明と添付図面とによって、さらに明白となる。

 <映像表示装置の概念的な構成について>
 図7は、本実施の形態に関する映像表示装置の構成(機能部)の例を概念的に示す図である。
 図7に概念的に示される映像表示装置は、複数のLED3001が配列された表示部3002を有する映像表示装置である。
 図7に例示されるように映像表示装置は、輝度情報算出部3003と、画素温度算出部3004と、温度補正係数算出部3005と、補正部3006と、駆動部3007とを備える。
 輝度情報算出部3003は、複数のLED3001のうちの1つに対応する映像信号の複数のフレームに基づいて、輝度情報を算出する。画素温度算出部3004は、LED3001の輝度とLED3001の温度との関係を示す第1の関数と、輝度情報とに基づいて、LED3001の温度を算出する。
 温度補正係数算出部3005は、LED3001の温度とLED3001の温度補正係数との関係を示す第2の関数と、画素温度算出部3004において算出されたLED3001の温度とに基づいて、LED3001の前記温度補正係数を算出する。補正部3006は、LED3001の温度補正係数に基づいて、対応する映像信号を補正する。
 駆動部3007は、補正された映像信号に基づいて、表示部3002に配列された対応するLED3001を駆動する。
 以下の実施の形態において図面などを用いて示されるそれぞれの構成は、上記の図7に示された構成の例をさらに具体的に示すものである。
 <第1の実施の形態>
 以下、本実施の形態に関する映像表示装置、および、輝度補正方法について説明する。以下の実施の形態では、映像表示装置の一例として、映像表示面に複数のLEDがマトリックス状に配置され、かつ、それぞれのLEDが点滅制御されることによって映像を表示する映像表示装置が説明される。
 <映像表示装置の構成について>
 図1は、本実施の形態に関する映像表示装置の構成の例を概略的に示す図である。図1に例が示されるように、映像表示装置1は、外部から入力された映像信号に応じて映像表示面に映像を表示する。
 映像表示装置1は、入力端子10と、映像信号処理部20と、輝度情報算出部31と、画素温度算出部32と、記憶部33と、温度補正係数算出部34と、記憶部35と、補正部30と、駆動部40と、表示部50とを備える。
 表示部50(映像表示面に相当)は、画素としての複数のLED51で構成される。すなわち、表示部50には、映像を表示するための画素としての複数のLED51が配列されている。複数のLED51は、平面視で行列状に配列されており、3つのサブ画素(RGB)を含む。3つのサブ画素は、それぞれ、LED51sr、LED51sgおよびLED51sbである。駆動部40は、それぞれのLEDに対し発光の制御を行うことによって、表示部50に映像を表示させる。
 表示部50は、LED51が、たとえば、水平方向に1920画素、垂直方向に1080画素の行列状に配置されることによって構成される。すなわち、表示部50の表示面は、1920×1080画素で構成される。
 次に、LEDの特性について説明する。LEDの輝度は、当該LEDの温度の影響を受けて変化する。図2は、LEDの特性の例を示す図である。具体的には、図2は、LEDの温度と相対輝度との関係の例を示す図である。図2において、縦軸は、相対輝度を示し、横軸は、LEDの温度を示す。
 図2に例が示されるように、LEDの温度が低いほどLEDの輝度は高くなる。一方で、LEDの温度が高いほどLEDの輝度は低くなる。
 以下においては、赤、緑および青のそれぞれを「原色」とも称する。また、以下においては、赤、緑および青を、それぞれR、GおよびBとも称する。また、以下においては、赤色光、緑色光および青色光を、それぞれR光、G光およびB光とも称する。
 LED51sr、LED51sgおよびLED51sbは、それぞれ、R光、G光およびB光を射出する。すなわち、サブ画素としてのLED51sr、LED51sgおよびLED51sbのそれぞれは、異なる原色を表現するための素子である。以下においては、R光、G光およびB光のそれぞれを「原色光」とも称する。また、以下においては、R光の輝度、G光の輝度およびB光の輝度を、それぞれ、R輝度、G輝度およびB輝度とも称する。すなわち、R輝度は、LED51srの輝度である。また、G輝度は、LED51sgの輝度である。また、B輝度は、LED51sbの輝度である。
 LED51は、LED51sr、LED51sgおよびLED51sbがそれぞれ射出する赤色光、緑色光および青色光が合成された光(以下、「合成光」とも称する)を射出する。以下においては、LED51が射出する合成光の輝度を、「LED51の輝度」とも称する。
 また、以下においては、LED51の輝度の補正に用いられる係数を、「温度補正係数」または「補正係数」とも称する。
 また、以下においては、表示部50に表示するための映像を、映像信号とも称する。映像信号は、R画像、G画像およびB画像によって表現される。ここで、R画像、G画像およびB画像のそれぞれの解像度は同じである。R画像は、映像信号における赤成分の画像である。G画像は、映像信号における緑成分の画像である。B画像は、映像信号における青成分の画像である。
 駆動部40は、映像信号に基づく映像が表示部50にフレームごとに順次表示されるように、表示部50を駆動させる。駆動部40は、たとえば、パルス幅変調(pulse width modulation、すなわち、PWM)方式によって、表示部50を駆動させる。これによって、表示部50に含まれるそれぞれのLED51のサブ画素(LED51sr、LED51sgおよびLED51sb)の輝度が制御される。
 入力端子10には、外部から映像信号が入力される。映像信号処理部20は、入力された映像信号に対して処理を行って映像信号21を得る。映像信号処理部20において行われる処理は、たとえば、ガンマ補正などである。
 映像信号21は、複数の画素の輝度をそれぞれ示す複数のフレームごとの画素値(階調値)を含む。本実施の形態においては、それぞれの画素の輝度を示す画素値は、サブ画素であるLED51sr、LED51sgおよびLED51sbそれぞれの画素の輝度を示す画素値を含む。画素値は、たとえば、8ビットのビット長を有し、256階調を有する。したがって、画素値がとりうる最大画素値は、255である。また、画素値がとりうる最小画素値は、0である。
 以下においては、表示部50における水平方向の画素の位置を「位置x」とも称する。「x」は、2以上の自然数である。また、以下においては、表示部50における垂直方向の画素の位置を「位置y」とも称する。「y」は、2以上の自然数である。また、以下においては、表示部50における画素の座標(位置)を「座標xy」、「座標(x,y)」または「(x,y)」と表現する。また、以下においては、表示部50において、座標xyで特定される画素(LED51)を、「画素Pxy」または「画素P(x,y)」とも称する。
 以下においては、映像信号における画素Pxy(LED51)のサブ画素であるLED51srの画素値を「画素値ARxy」または「ARxy」とも称する。また、以下においては、画素Pxy(LED51)のサブ画素であるLED51sgの画素値を「画素値AGxy」または「AGxy」とも称する。また、以下においては、画素Pxy(LED51)のサブ画素であるLED51sbの画素値を「画素値ABxy」または「ABxy」とも称する。
 輝度情報算出部31は、映像信号処理部20から入力される映像信号21から輝度情報Aを算出する。Wが通電されてから現在までのフレーム数であり、通電時間に相当するものとすると、輝度情報算出部31が算出する輝度情報A(W)は、現在のフレームに対する輝度情報であり、輝度情報は、映像信号21の複数のフレームに基づいて算出されるものである。たとえば、輝度情報は、それぞれの画素の輝度を示す画素値の現在から連続するNフレーム分前までの連続Nフレーム分の加重平均である。ここで、フレームとは、動画像を構成する個々の静止画像を示すものである。
 画素Pxy(LED51)のサブ画素の輝度情報ARxy(W)、輝度情報AGxy(W)、輝度情報ABxy(W)は、たとえば、以下の式(1)によって算出される。

 式(1)において、ARxy(0)は、サブ画素であるLED51srの現在の画素値を示し、ARxy(W-1)は、LED51srの1フレーム前の輝度情報、すなわち、現在の1フレーム前から連続するNフレーム分前(つまり、現在からはN+1フレーム前のフレーム)までの加重平均の結果である。
 画素Pxy(LED51)のサブ画素であるLED51sgの輝度情報AGxy(W)、および、LED51sbの輝度情報ABxy(W)についても同様に算出される。
 ただし、LEDの温度は通電時間が短い場合は飽和温度に達しないため、通電時間(または、起動後の経過時間)であるWが、Nフレーム分の時間以下である期間、すなわち、W≦Nである期間に関しては、式(1)を用いて加重平均の算出をすることができない。そのため、W≦Nの場合は、以下の式(2)に例が示されるように、Nフレームまでの平均値となるように輝度情報を算出する。

 すなわち、W>Nの場合は式(1)を用いて輝度情報を算出し、W≦Nの場合は式(2)を用いて輝度情報を算出する。
 画素Pxyの輝度情報Axy(W)は、以下の式(3)に示されるように、サブ画素の輝度情報ARxy(W)、輝度情報AGxy(W)および輝度情報ABxy(W)の合計から算出される。

 ここで、動画像のように短い周期で輝度が大きく変化する画像(すなわち、映像)を表示する場合に、頻繁に補正係数(温度補正係数)が変化すると不自然な輝度補正が行われてしまうため、式(1)のNは十分に大きい値を選択する必要がある。たとえば、1フレーム60Hzの表示映像を30分単位での加重平均によって温度補正係数を算出する場合、N=30×60×60 = 108000フレームとすればよい。
 画素温度算出部32は、温度補正係数を演算するために、画素Pxy(LED51)の現在の温度を算出する。具体的には、画素温度算出部32は、輝度情報算出部31で算出された輝度情報Axy(W)を画素値飽和温度関数に適用して、画素Pxyの現在の温度である現在温度Txy(W)を求める。
 図3は、画素値飽和温度関数の例を示す図である。図3において、縦軸が飽和温度[℃]を示し、横軸が画素値を示す。記憶部33には、図3に例が示される画素値飽和温度関数のテーブルなどが格納されている。
 上記の画素値飽和温度関数とは、LED51を画素値hで駆動点灯し続けた場合の最終温度、すなわち、飽和温度T(h)を示す、LEDの輝度と温度との関係を示す関数であり、たとえば、あらかじめ、複数の画素値hで飽和温度T(h)を測定し、それらの近似関数を求めることによって決定される。
 次に、温度補正係数算出部34において、温度補正係数Cを求める方法を説明する。図4は、LED51の温度と温度補正係数との関係を示す温度補正関数の例を示す図である。図4において、縦軸が温度補正係数Cを示し、横軸がLEDの温度[℃]を示す。記憶部35には、図4に例が示される温度補正関数のテーブルなどが格納されている。
 図4には、サブ画素であるLED51sr、LED51sgおよびLED51sbそれぞれの温度に対応する温度補正係数が示されている。具体的には、図4において、LED51srの温度に対応する温度補正係数は点線で示され、LED51sgの温度に対応する温度補正係数は実線で示され、LED51sbの温度に対応する温度補正係数は破線で示される。
 これらの温度補正係数は、上記のように、LEDの温度差に起因する輝度差を小さくし、輝度ムラを軽減するための係数であり、たとえば、LEDの温度と相対輝度との関係から求められる。本実施の形態においては、相対輝度の逆数としている。
 画素温度算出部32において求められた画素Pxyの現在温度Txy(W)と、記憶部35に格納されている温度補正関数のテーブルとによって、サブ画素ごとの温度補正係数Cが、CRxy(W)、CGxy(W)およびCBxy(W)として求められる。
 画素Pxyの輝度の補正は、映像信号21の対象画素の画素値(階調値)に、温度補正係数Cを乗じることによって行われる。
 具体的には、補正部30が、たとえば、以下の式(4)を用いることによって、映像信号21の画素Pxy(LED51)のサブ画素であるLED51srの画素値ARxy(0)から、映像信号36の画素Pxy(LED51)のサブ画素であるLED51srの画素値ARxy(C)を算出する。

 同様に、サブ画素であるLED51sgの画素値AGxy(C)、および、サブ画素であるLED51sbの画素値ABxy(C)が算出される。
 映像信号21の1920×1080個の画素値それぞれに対し、式(4)を用いる輝度補正処理が行われ、補正された映像信号36(R画像、G画像、B画像)が得られる。
 そして、駆動部40が、補正された映像信号36にしたがって、表示部50に備えられる1920×1080個のLEDを駆動する。これによって、表示部50には、補正された映像信号36に応じた映像が表示される。
 なお、本実施の形態では、Nフレーム期間で1フレーム前に算出された輝度値と現在の輝度値との加重平均に基づいて飽和温度が算出されたが、連続するNフレーム期間の平均値を用いて飽和温度が算出されてもよい。
 従来の映像表示装置では、LEDが発する光によるLED自体の温度上昇に起因する輝度低下が考慮されていない。そのため、通電後しばらく時間が経過すると、LEDの輝度の違いに起因して生じる温度差に応じて、LED間で輝度ムラが生じていた。当該現象は、特に、静止画像が長時間表示された後、当該静止画像を切り替える際に顕著に表れる。
 本実施の形態に関する映像表示装置によれば、映像信号のそれぞれの画素における現在までの連続Nフレーム分の画素値(階調値)に基づいて輝度情報が演算される。さらに、当該輝度情報に基づいて、それぞれの画素に対応するLEDの現在の温度が算出される。そして、LEDの現在の温度に基づく温度補正係数が算出される。当該温度補正係数を用いてLEDの輝度補正が行われることによって、それぞれのLEDの温度上昇に起因する輝度ムラを軽減することができる。特に、静止画像が長時間表示される場合でも、それぞれのLED単位での温度差に起因する輝度ムラを軽減することができるため、視認性が向上する。
 また、上記の温度補正係数は、連続Nフレーム分の画素値の加重平均(すなわち、輝度情報)に基づいて算出されている。そのため、温度補正係数は、短時間で大きく変化することはない。したがって、表示される映像信号が動画像などのように短い周期で大きく変化する場合にも、不自然な輝度補正が行われることを抑制することができる。また、Nフレーム分の期間で1フレーム前に算出された画素値と現在の画素値との加重平均に基づいて温度補正係数が算出される場合には、計算負荷が小さくなる。そのため、輝度情報算出部31のハードウェア規模を小さくすることができる。
 <第2の実施の形態>
 本実施の形態に関する映像表示装置、および、輝度補正方法について説明する。なお、以下の説明においては、以上に記載された実施の形態で説明された構成要素と同様の構成要素については同じ符号を付して図示し、その詳細な説明については適宜省略するものとする。
 上記の第1の実施の形態では、不自然な輝度補正が行われないように、十分に大きい連続Nフレーム分の画素値の加重平均によって輝度情報が算出された。たとえば、1フレーム60Hzの表示映像を30分単位での加重平均によって温度補正係数を算出する場合、N=30×60×60 = 108000フレームとされる。
 ここで、映像表示装置を起動した直後に高い輝度の映像が表示される場合、または、起動後30分が経過するまでの期間に動画像のように短い周期で輝度が大きく変化する映像を表示される場合には、不自然な輝度補正が行われることがある。
 本実施の形態に関する映像表示装置は、起動した後、Nフレーム分の時間が経過する前であっても、不自然な輝度補正が行われることを抑制する。
 本実施の形態に関する輝度情報算出部は、映像信号処理部20から入力される映像信号21から輝度情報を演算する際、W>Nの場合は、それぞれの画素の輝度を示す画素値の現在から連続Nフレーム分前までの値の加重平均によって輝度情報を算出する。
 すなわち、現時点で、起動した後にWフレーム分の時間が経過したとすると、Wフレーム時間がNフレーム時間よりも長い場合、Wフレーム分の時間が経過した現在の画素Pxy(LED51)のサブ画素の輝度情報ARxy(W)、輝度情報AGxy(W)および輝度情報ABxy(W)は、以下の式(5)によって算出される。

 式(5)において、ARxy(0)は、サブ画素であるLED51srの現在の画素値を示し、ARxy(W-1)は、LED51srの1フレーム前の輝度情報、すなわち、現在の1フレーム前から連続するNフレーム分前(つまり、現在からはN+1フレーム前のフレーム)までの加重平均の結果である。
 画素Pxy(LED51)のサブ画素であるLED51sgの輝度情報AGxy(W)、および、LED51sbの輝度情報ABxy(W)についても同様に算出される。
 一方で、W≦Nの場合、すなわち、LED51の現在までのフレーム数(W)がしきい値(N)以下である場合には、本実施の形態に関する輝度情報算出部は、まず、映像信号処理部20から入力される映像信号21の、起動後からWフレーム後までの画素値の平均値SRxy(W)、平均値SGxy(W)および平均値SBxy(W)を、以下の式(6)を用いて算出する。

 式(6)において、SRxy(0)は、サブ画素であるLED51srの現在の画素値を示し、SRxy(W-1)は、LED51srの1フレーム前の輝度情報、すなわち、現在の1フレーム前から連続するWフレーム分前(つまり、現在からはW+1フレーム前のフレーム)までの加重平均の結果である。
 画素Pxy(LED51)のサブ画素であるLED51sgの平均値SGxy(W)、および、LED51sbの平均値SBxy(W)についても同様に算出される。
 次に、本実施の形態に関する輝度情報算出部は、輝度情報ARxy(W)、輝度情報AGxy(W)および輝度情報ABxy(W)を、以下の式(7)を用いて算出する。すなわち、現在までのフレーム数(W)としきい値(N)との比率に基づいて、輝度情報ARxy(W)、輝度情報AGxy(W)および輝度情報ABxy(W)を算出する。

 そして、画素Pxyの輝度情報Axy(W)は、以下の式(8)に示されるように、サブ画素の輝度情報ARxy(W)、輝度情報AGxy(W)および輝度情報ABxy(W)の合計から算出される。

 以後、本実施の形態に関する映像表示装置は、第1の実施の形態に示されたものと同様の動作を行い、補正された映像信号36(R画像、G画像、B画像)を得る。そして、本実施の形態に関する映像表示装置は、表示部50に、補正された映像信号36に応じた映像を表示させる。
 映像表示装置を起動した直後に高い輝度の映像が表示される場合、または、起動後30分が経過するまでの期間に動画像のように短い周期で輝度が大きく変化する映像を表示される場合には、不自然な輝度補正が行われることがある。
 これに対し、本実施の形態に関する映像表示装置によれば、Nフレーム時間経過前に高い輝度の映像または動画像のように短い周期で輝度が大きく変化する映像が表示される場合でも、温度補正係数は大きく変化しない。そのため、不自然な輝度補正が行われることが抑制され、それぞれのLEDの温度上昇に起因する輝度ムラを軽減することができる。
 <映像表示装置のハードウェア構成について>
 図5および図6は、図1に例が示される映像表示装置を実際に運用する場合のハードウェア構成を概略的に例示する図である。
 なお、図5および図6に例示されるハードウェア構成は、図1に例示される構成とは数などが整合しない場合があるが、これは図1に例示される構成が概念的な単位を示すものであることに起因する。
 よって、少なくとも、図1に例示される1つの構成が、図5および図6に例示される複数のハードウェア構成から成る場合と、図1に例示される1つの構成が、図5および図6に例示されるハードウェア構成の一部に対応する場合と、さらには、図1に例示される複数の構成が、図5および図6に例示される1つのハードウェア構成に備えられる場合とが想定され得る。
 図5では、図1中の映像信号処理部20、補正部30、輝度情報算出部31、画素温度算出部32、温度補正係数算出部34および駆動部40を実現するためのハードウェア構成として、演算を行う処理回路1102Aと、情報を記憶することができる記憶装置1103とが示される。これらの構成は、他の実施の形態においても同様である。
 図6では、図1中の映像信号処理部20、補正部30、輝度情報算出部31、画素温度算出部32、温度補正係数算出部34および駆動部40を実現するためのハードウェア構成として、演算を行う処理回路1102Bが示される。当該構成は、他の実施の形態においても同様である。
 記憶部33および記憶部35は、記憶装置1103または別の記憶装置(ここでは、図示しない)によって実現される。
 記憶装置1103は、たとえば、ハードディスクドライブ(Hard disk drive、すなわち、HDD)、ランダムアクセスメモリ(random access memory、すなわち、RAM)、リードオンリーメモリ(read only memory、すなわち、ROM)、フラッシュメモリ、erasable programmable read only memory(EPROM)およびelectrically erasable programmable read-only memory(EEPROM)などの、揮発性または不揮発性の半導体メモリ、磁気ディスク、フレキシブルディスク、光ディスク、コンパクトディスク、ミニディスクまたはDVDなどを含むメモリ(記録媒体)、または、今後使用されるあらゆる記録媒体であってもよい。
 処理回路1102Aは、記憶装置1103、外部のCD-ROM、外部のDVD-ROM、または、外部のフラッシュメモリなどに格納されたプログラムを実行するものであってもよい。すなわち、たとえば、中央演算処理装置(central processing unit、すなわち、CPU)、マイクロプロセッサ、マイクロコンピュータ、デジタルシグナルプロセッサ(digital signal processor、すなわち、DSP)であってもよい。
 処理回路1102Aが記憶装置1103、外部のCD-ROM、外部のDVD-ROM、または、外部のフラッシュメモリなどに格納されたプログラムを実行するものである場合、映像信号処理部20、補正部30、輝度情報算出部31、画素温度算出部32、温度補正係数算出部34および駆動部40は、記憶装置1103に格納されたプログラムが処理回路1102Aによって実行されるソフトウェア、ファームウェアまたはソフトウェアとファームウェアとの組み合わせにより実現される。なお、映像信号処理部20、補正部30、輝度情報算出部31、画素温度算出部32、温度補正係数算出部34および駆動部40の機能は、たとえば、複数の処理回路が連携することによって実現されてもよい。
 ソフトウェアおよびファームウェアはプログラムとして記述され、記憶装置1103に記憶されるものであってもよい。その場合、処理回路1102Aは、記憶装置1103に格納されたプログラムを読み出して実行することによって、上記の機能を実現する。すなわち、記憶装置1103は、処理回路1102Aに実行されることによって、上記の機能が結果的に実現されるプログラムを記憶するものであってもよい。
 また、処理回路1102Bは、専用のハードウェアであってもよい。すなわち、たとえば、単一回路、複合回路、プログラム化されたプロセッサ、並列プログラム化されたプロセッサ、集積回路(application specific integrated circuit、すなわち、ASIC)、field-programmable gate array(FPGA)またはこれらを組み合わせた回路であってもよい。
 処理回路1102Bが専用のハードウェアである場合、映像信号処理部20、補正部30、輝度情報算出部31、画素温度算出部32、温度補正係数算出部34および駆動部40は、処理回路1102Bが動作することにより実現される。なお、映像信号処理部20、補正部30、輝度情報算出部31、画素温度算出部32、温度補正係数算出部34および駆動部40の機能は、別々の回路で実現されてもよいし、単一の回路で実現されてもよい。
 なお、映像信号処理部20、補正部30、輝度情報算出部31、画素温度算出部32、温度補正係数算出部34および駆動部40の機能は、一部が記憶装置1103に格納されたプログラムを実行するものである処理回路1102Aにおいて実現され、一部が専用のハードウェアである処理回路1102Bにおいて実現されてもよい。
 <以上に記載された実施の形態によって生じる効果について>
 次に、以上に記載された実施の形態によって生じる効果の例を示す。なお、以下の説明においては、以上に記載された実施の形態に例が示された具体的な構成に基づいて当該効果が記載されるが、同様の効果が生じる範囲で、本願明細書に例が示される他の具体的な構成と置き換えられてもよい。すなわち、以下では便宜上、対応づけられる具体的な構成のうちのいずれか1つのみが代表して記載される場合があるが、代表して記載された具体的な構成が対応づけられる他の具体的な構成に置き換えられてもよい。
 また、当該置き換えは、複数の実施の形態に跨ってなされてもよい。すなわち、異なる実施の形態において例が示されたそれぞれの構成が組み合わされて、同様の効果が生じる場合であってもよい。
 以上に記載された実施の形態によれば、映像表示装置は、輝度情報算出部31と、画素温度算出部32と、温度補正係数算出部34と、補正部30と、駆動部40とを備える。輝度情報算出部31は、複数のLED51のうちの1つに対応する映像信号21の複数のフレームに基づいて、輝度情報を算出する。画素温度算出部32は、LED51の輝度とLED51の温度との関係を示す第1の関数と、輝度情報とに基づいて、LED51の温度を算出する。ここで、第1の関数は、たとえば、画素値飽和温度関数などに対応するものである。温度補正係数算出部34は、LED51の温度とLED51の温度補正係数との関係を示す第2の関数と、画素温度算出部32において算出されたLED51の温度とに基づいて、LED51の温度補正係数を算出する。ここで、第2の関数は、たとえば、温度補正関数などに対応するものである。補正部30は、LED51の温度補正係数に基づいて、対応する映像信号を補正する。駆動部40は、補正された映像信号に基づいて、表示部50に配列された対応するLED51を駆動する。
 また、以上に記載された実施の形態によれば、映像表示装置は、表示部50およびLED51を備える。
 また、映像表示装置は、プログラムを実行する処理回路1102Aと、実行されるプログラムを記憶する記憶装置1103とを備える。そして、処理回路1102Aがプログラムを実行することによって、以下の動作が実現される。
 すなわち、複数のLED51のうちの1つに対応する映像信号21の複数のフレームに基づいて、輝度情報が算出される。そして、LED51の輝度とLED51の温度との関係を示す画素値飽和温度関数と、輝度情報とに基づいて、LED51の温度が算出される。そして、LED51の温度とLED51の温度補正係数との関係を示す温度補正関数と、算出されたLED51の温度とに基づいて、LED51の温度補正係数が算出される。そして、LED51の温度補正係数に基づいて、対応する映像信号が補正される。そして、補正された映像信号に基づいて、表示部50に配列された対応するLED51が駆動される。
 また、以上に記載された実施の形態によれば、映像表示装置は、表示部50およびLED51を備える。また、映像表示装置は、専用のハードウェアである処理回路1102Bを備える。そして、専用のハードウェアである処理回路1102Bは、以下の動作を行う。
 すなわち、専用のハードウェアである処理回路1102Bは、複数のLED51のうちの1つに対応する映像信号21の複数のフレームに基づいて、輝度情報を算出する。そして、LED51の輝度とLED51の温度との関係を示す画素値飽和温度関数と、輝度情報とに基づいて、LED51の温度を算出する。そして、LED51の温度とLED51の温度補正係数との関係を示す温度補正関数と、算出されたLED51の温度とに基づいて、LED51の温度補正係数を算出する。そして、LED51の温度補正係数に基づいて、対応する映像信号を補正する。そして、補正された映像信号に基づいて、表示部50に配列された対応するLED51を駆動する。
 このような構成によれば、複数のLED51の、温度差に起因する輝度ムラを軽減することができる。具体的には、LED51の発する光によるLED51自体の温度上昇に起因する輝度低下を補正することができる。特に、複数のLED51が配列されている表示部50に表示される映像が切り替わった際に、異なる輝度の画素で表示されていた直前の映像の影響を受けて生じ得る輝度ムラを、効果的に軽減することができる。
 なお、上記の構成に本願明細書に例が示された他の構成を適宜追加した場合、すなわち、上記の構成としては言及されなかった本願明細書中の他の構成が適宜追加された場合であっても、同様の効果を生じさせることができる。
 また、以上に記載された実施の形態によれば、輝度情報算出部31は、映像信号の現在までの複数のフレームにおけるLED51の画素値の加重平均に基づいて、輝度情報を算出する。このような構成によれば、現在までの通電時間分の画素値の加重平均に対応する輝度情報に基づいて、温度補正係数が算出されることとなるため、温度補正係数は、短時間で大きく変化することがない。よって、表示される映像信号が動画像などのように短い周期で大きく変化する場合にも、不自然な輝度補正が行われることを抑制することができる。
 また、以上に記載された実施の形態によれば、画素値飽和温度関数は、LED51に設定された複数の画素値と、それぞれの画素値に設定されたLED51で測定された飽和温度との関係を示す関数である。このような構成によれば、あらかじめ測定された複数の画素値におけるLED51の飽和温度を示す画素値飽和温度関数を用いることによって、LED51の温度を直接測定せずとも、LED51の画素値に基づいてLED51の飽和温度を算出することができる。
 また、以上に記載された実施の形態によれば、温度補正関数は、複数の温度下におけるLED51の相対輝度に基づいて算出される関数である。このような構成によれば、LED51の相対輝度に基づく温度補正関数を用いて温度補正係数を算出することによって、異なる温度下におけるLED51の相対輝度を反映して映像信号の補正がなされることとなるため、LED51の温度の違いに起因する輝度ムラを軽減することができる。
 また、以上に記載された実施の形態によれば、輝度情報算出部は、LED51の現在までのフレーム数(実施の形態におけるW)がしきい値(実施の形態におけるN)以下である場合に、現在までのフレーム数としきい値との比にも基づいて、輝度情報を算出する。このような構成によれば、映像表示装置を起動した直後に高い輝度の映像が表示される場合、または、起動後に所定の時間が経過するまでの期間に動画像のように短い周期で輝度が大きく変化する映像を表示される場合であっても、不自然な輝度補正が行われることを抑制することができる。
 以上に記載された実施の形態によれば、輝度補正方法において、複数のLED51のうちの1つに対応する映像信号21の複数のフレームに基づいて、輝度情報を算出する。そして、LED51の輝度とLED51の温度との関係を示す画素値飽和温度関数と、輝度情報とに基づいて、LED51の温度を算出する。そして、LED51の温度とLED51の温度補正係数との関係を示す温度補正関数と、算出されたLED51の温度とに基づいて、LED51の温度補正係数を算出する。そして、LED51の温度補正係数に基づいて、対応する映像信号を補正する。そして、補正された映像信号に基づいて、表示部50に配列された対応するLED51を駆動する。
 このような構成によれば、複数のLED51の、温度差に起因する輝度ムラを軽減することができる。具体的には、LED51の発する光によるLED51自体の温度上昇に起因する輝度低下を補正することができる。特に、複数のLED51が配列されている表示部50に表示される映像が切り替わった際に、異なる輝度の画素で表示されていた直前の映像の影響を受けて生じ得る輝度ムラを、効果的に軽減することができる。
 なお、特段の制限がない場合には、それぞれの処理が行われる順序は変更することができる。
 また、上記の構成に本願明細書に例が示された他の構成を適宜追加した場合、すなわち、上記の構成としては言及されなかった本願明細書中の他の構成が適宜追加された場合であっても、同様の効果を生じさせることができる。
 <以上に記載された実施の形態の変形例について>
 以上に記載された実施の形態では、それぞれの構成要素の寸法、形状、相対的配置関係または実施の条件などについても記載する場合があるが、これらはすべての局面においてひとつの例であって、限定的なものではないものとする。
 したがって、例が示されていない無数の変形例、および、均等物が、本願明細書に開示される技術の範囲内において想定される。たとえば、少なくとも1つの構成要素を変形する場合、追加する場合または省略する場合が含まれるものとする。
 また、矛盾が生じない限り、以上に記載された実施の形態において「1つ」備えられるものとして記載された構成要素は、「1つ以上」備えられていてもよいものとする。

 たとえば、記憶部33および記憶部35は、図1においては映像表示装置内に搭載されるものとして示されたが、これらのうちの少なくとも1つは外部の機能部であってもよいものとする。その場合、映像表示装置内の他の機能部と外部の機能部とが互いに作用しあうことによって、全体として映像表示装置の機能を果たすものであればよい。

  1.  複数のLEDが配列された表示部を有する映像表示装置であり、
     複数の前記LEDのうちの1つに対応する映像信号の複数のフレームに基づいて、輝度情報を算出する輝度情報算出部と、
     前記LEDの輝度と前記LEDの温度との関係を示す第1の関数と、前記輝度情報とに基づいて、前記LEDの温度を算出する画素温度算出部と、
     前記LEDの温度と前記LEDの温度補正係数との関係を示す第2の関数と、前記画素温度算出部において算出された前記LEDの温度とに基づいて、前記LEDの前記温度補正係数を算出する温度補正係数算出部と、
     前記LEDの前記温度補正係数に基づいて、対応する前記映像信号を補正する補正部と、
     補正された前記映像信号に基づいて、前記表示部に配列された対応する前記LEDを駆動する駆動部とを備える、
     映像表示装置。

  5.  請求項1から4のうちのいずれか1つに記載の映像表示装置であり、
     前記輝度情報算出部は、前記LEDの現在までのフレーム数がしきい値以下である場合に、現在までの前記フレーム数と前記しきい値との比にも基づいて、前記輝度情報を算出する、
     映像表示装置。
  6.  表示部に配列された複数のLEDの輝度を補正する輝度補正方法であり、
     複数の前記LEDのうちの1つに対応する映像信号の複数のフレームに基づいて、輝度情報を算出し、
     前記LEDの輝度と前記LEDの温度との関係を示す第1の関数と、前記輝度情報とに基づいて、前記LEDの温度を算出し、
     前記LEDの温度と前記LEDの温度補正係数との関係を示す第2の関数と、算出された前記LEDの温度とに基づいて、前記LEDの温度補正係数を算出し、
     前記LEDの前記温度補正係数に基づいて、対応する前記映像信号を補正し、
     補正された前記映像信号に基づいて、前記表示部に配列された対応する前記LEDを駆動する、
     輝度補正方法。
  7.  請求項6に記載の輝度補正方法であり、
     前記輝度情報を算出することは、前記映像信号の現在までの複数のフレームにおける前記LEDの画素値の加重平均に基づいて、前記輝度情報を算出することである、
     輝度補正方法。
