Definitions
- the present invention relates to a high frequency antenna measurement technique for measuring radiation characteristics of an on-chip high frequency antenna in the ultrahigh frequency band.
- Wireless communication devices such as mobile terminals are strongly required to have large capacity, small size, and easy portability.
- RF circuits high frequency electronic circuits
- RF Radio Frequency
- the bandwidth of the RF front end is determined by the operating bandwidth of its components, analog circuits such as amplifiers and frequency converters, and high-frequency components such as high-frequency antennas.
- the operating bandwidth of these high-frequency components is assumed to have a constant ratio (referred to as a specific band) of the operating band to the center frequency (see, for example, Non-Patent Document 1). Therefore, by increasing the carrier frequency, the operating bandwidth of the high-frequency component can be increased. Further, since the wavelength of the radio signal becomes shorter when the carrier frequency is increased, it is possible to reduce the size of components including an impedance element (such as a quarter wavelength line) determined by the wavelength of an analog circuit or a high-frequency antenna. Therefore, increasing the frequency of the carrier wave is an effective method as a means for meeting the needs for increasing the data rate and miniaturization of wireless communication devices.

- AUT Antenna Under Test
- a feeding probe that feeds a high-frequency signal to the AUT is positioned with a microscope. Need to match.
- using a microscope makes it difficult to install a receiving antenna for receiving radiated radio waves from the AUT, and it becomes impossible to properly measure and evaluate the radiated characteristics.
- the receiving antenna can be installed, it is difficult to accurately grasp the distance from the AUT to the receiving antenna on the order of um.
- the present invention is intended to solve such a problem, and to provide a high-frequency antenna measurement technique capable of appropriately measuring radiation characteristics such as gain and radiation pattern of an on-chip high-frequency antenna in the ultra-high frequency band with high accuracy. - the high-frequency antenna measurement system 10 inputs a high-frequency signal to an on-chip high-frequency antenna AUT (Antenna Under Test, hereinafter referred to as AUT) to be measured, such as an on-chip antenna in the ultra-high frequency band, and radiates radio waves (radiated radio waves) radiated from the AUT. It is configured to measure the radiation characteristics of the AUT based on the received signal obtained by receiving the radiofrequency field.
- AUT Antenna Under Test
- the high-frequency antenna measurement system 10 has, as a main component, a stage 11 for holding and adjusting the position of the AUT, and a high-frequency signal output from the analysis system AS to supply power to the AUT.
- Power sensor Power Sensor
- TxProbe feeding probe
- RxANT receiving antenna
- the analysis system AS and the microscope MS are general ones used in the well-known RF circuit measurement system 50 and the like described later in FIG.
- the analysis system AS uses only one port (Port1) of a general network analyzer (Network Analyzer) NA, and after increasing the band of the high-frequency signal output from that port with the multiplier EX1. Power is supplied to the AUT via the power supply probe 12. Further, the microscope MS is used to optically confirm the position of the receiving antenna 14.
- the feeding probe 12 is attached to a pillar portion erected on the stage 11, an arm portion formed so as to project upward from the upper end of the pillar portion, and downward from the arm portion. , It is composed of a plurality of pins that are in electrical contact with the feeding terminal on the surface of the AUT.
- the detection probe (Rx-Probe) 13 is an existing one used in the RF circuit measurement system 50, and is not used for detecting the radiation characteristics of Austria.
- the detection probe 13 may be used as a support portion for supporting the receiving antenna 14. Further, as in the well-known RF circuit measurement system 50 described later in FIG. 2, the detection probe 13 is provided with the same configuration as the feeding probe 12 to detect a high frequency signal propagating in the transmission path on the AUT surface and to detect the AUT. The transmission characteristics of the device may be measured.
- FIG. 2 is a block diagram showing a configuration of an RF circuit measurement system that measures the transmission characteristics of an RF circuit.
- DUT Device Under Test
- the measurement system 50 is used.
- the RF circuit measurement system 50 feeds the high frequency signal output from the analysis system AS using the feeding probe (TxProbe) 52 to the DUT on the stage 51, and electrically contacts the circuit wiring of the DUT.
- the detection probe (RxProbe) 53 detects the high frequency signal and outputs it to the RF circuit measurement system 50.
- the analysis system AS increases the band of the signal output from one port (Port1) of the network analyzer NA with the extender EX1 and then DUTs via the feeding probe 52 of the RF circuit measurement system 50. Power to. Further, the high frequency signal detected by the detection probe 53 is reduced in band by the extender EX2, and then the signal is analyzed by the other port (Port2) of the network analyzer NA to measure the transmission characteristics of the DUT.
- the RF circuit measurement system 50 it is necessary to adjust the positions of the feeding probe 52 and the detection probe 53 to electrically contact the circuit wiring to be measured formed on the DUT surface.
- the circuit size of the DUT is on the order of mm or less, precise probe operation with a particle size of about um using the stage 51 is required. Therefore, as shown in FIG. 2, it is common to perform measurement by operating a probe using a microscope MS.
- the high frequency antenna measuring system 10 receives the radiated radio wave from the AUT composed of the on-chip antenna by the receiving antenna 14 and measures it by the power sensor 15. Therefore, in the receiving system that receives the radiated radio wave from the AUT, it is necessary to keep the position of the receiving antenna 14 at a position sufficiently high from the AUT. On the other hand, in the feeding system for feeding a high frequency signal to the AUT, as described above, it is necessary to adjust the position of the feeding probe 12 at the stage 11 using the microscope MS. Therefore, there is a need for a mechanism that allows the receiving antenna 14 to appropriately receive the radiated radio waves from the AUT with the microscope MS installed.
- the above problem is solved by using a waveguide antenna integrated with a connector as the receiving antenna 14. That is, the receiving antenna 14 is composed of a general waveguide 14A as a whole, and may be configured in a size suitable for the high frequency band of AUT, like the receiving system including the existing detection probe 13. As a result, the radiated radio wave can be received with a relatively high gain.
- a connector 14B for connecting to the power sensor 15 and outputting the received signal to the power sensor 15 is integrally formed.
- the received signal received by the receiving antenna 14 can be transmitted to the power sensor 15 without changing the transmission form as the waveguide 14A, and the transmission loss to the power sensor 15 can be reduced.
- the position of the receiving antenna 14 can be adjusted in the stage 11 as in the existing detection probe 13, it can be measured with high accuracy with respect to the radiation position of the AUT.
- the present embodiment includes a receiving antenna 14 for receiving the radiated radio wave from the high frequency antenna, and the receiving antenna 14 is integrally formed with a connector 14B for outputting the received signal to the power sensor 15 at the rear end. It is composed of a built-in waveguide.
- a receiving system that receives radiated radio waves from the AUT and measures the radiated characteristics can be constructed on the stage 11 with the microscope MS required for adjusting the position of the feeding probe 12 installed. Therefore, it is possible to appropriately measure the radiation characteristics such as the gain and the radiation pattern of the on-chip high-frequency antenna in the ultra-high frequency band with high accuracy.
- the receiving antenna 14 has a structure with high gain and low loss, it can be sufficiently measured without covering the power supplied from the network analyzer NA with a power amplifier or the like, and a measurement system can be realized at a relatively low cost. can do. Therefore, it is possible to construct an antenna measurement system for measuring the radiation characteristics of the on-chip high-frequency antenna only by changing a part of the receiving side of the conventional RF circuit measurement system. Therefore, it is possible to measure the radiation characteristics of the on-chip high-frequency antenna without constructing the antenna measurement system from scratch in an environment different from the RF circuit measurement system as in the past, and it takes time and effort to measure the RF front-end system. Can be significantly shortened.
- FIG. 3 is an explanatory diagram showing another configuration of the high frequency antenna measurement system according to the first embodiment.
- the receiving antenna 14 for example, an S-shaped curved portion 14D is formed in the vicinity of the waveguide-coaxial conversion adapter 14C, and the waveguide 16 forms the waveguide-.
- the position for receiving the radiated radio wave may be freely changed around the central axis O of the coaxial conversion adapter 14C.
- the position where the radiated radio wave is received by the receiving antenna 14 can be three-dimensionally changed (rotated) around the central axis O of the waveguide-coaxial adapter 13C, and the spatial radiation pattern of the AUT can be measured. can do. Further, by tilting the arrangement of the feeding system including the AUT by 90 degrees, it is possible to measure the other radiation surface (the E surface or the H surface, whichever is not measured).
- FIG. 4 is an explanatory diagram showing the configuration of the high frequency antenna measurement system according to the second embodiment.
- the position of the receiving antenna 14 can be adjusted in the two-dimensional direction along the substrate plane of the AUT, but when measuring the distance (height) X from the AUT to the receiving antenna 14. , It is difficult to reduce the measurement error of the distance X because it is necessary to use a measuring tool such as a caliper or a measure and finally rely on visual confirmation.
- the optical fiber 17 is connected to the distance sensor 18 using infrared rays, visible light, or the like, and the tip of the optical fiber 17 is arranged at the tip of the receiving antenna 14, thereby forming an AUTO. It is configured to measure the distance X between the surface and the tip of the receiving antenna 14.
- Other configurations of the high-frequency antenna measurement system 10 according to the present embodiment are the same as those in FIG. 1 or FIG. 3, and detailed description thereof will be omitted here.
- an optical signal emitted from the vicinity of the tip of the receiving antenna 14 toward the surface of the AUT via the optical fiber 17 and an optical signal reflected from the substrate of the AUT and returned are received via the optical fiber 17.
- the time difference between the transmission / reception timings of these optical signals is detected by the distance sensor 18, and the distance X between the tip of the receiving antenna and the surface of the AUT is calculated based on this time difference.
- the distance is measured with the receiving antenna 14 in contact with the reference surface, and the height is flexibly adjusted according to the difference in the substrate thickness and measurement environment by calibrating to 0 um (or mm). It can be carried out.
- the distance X can be measured by an objective method in which measurement errors such as visual inspection are significantly reduced. Further, by visually displaying the measured distance X value on the display, it is expected that the convenience at the time of measurement will be improved.
- a significant loss due to distance attenuation occurs due to a change in the distance between transmission and reception on the order of um.
- an objective and high-resolution measurement method of um order or less as in the present embodiment, it is possible to measure an appropriate antenna gain. Therefore, it is possible to appropriately measure the radiation characteristics such as the gain and the radiation pattern of the on-chip high-frequency antenna in the ultra-high frequency band with high accuracy.
- FIG. 5 is an explanatory diagram showing the configuration of the high frequency antenna measurement system according to the third embodiment.
- the position of the receiving antenna 14 in the two-dimensional direction along the substrate plane of the AUT is confirmed by the microscope MS in the same manner as the feeding probe 12. It is configured to adjust the position.
- the distance in the height direction from the feeding probe 12 is generated on the order of mm, the microscope MS is out of focus, and there is a concern that the position information between the AUTO and the receiving antenna 14 cannot be obtained accurately. Therefore, as a practical means, it is visually estimated from the position of the shadow of the receiving antenna 14 in a state of focusing on the substrate of the AUT.
- a laser pointer 19 is installed near the tip of the receiving antenna 14, and the laser beam 19A is emitted from the laser pointer 19 toward the AUT.
- the laser beam 19A emitted from the laser pointer 19 and reflected by the AUT substrate can be confirmed by the microscope MS, and the position of the receiving antenna 14 along the AUT substrate plane in the two-dimensional direction can be confirmed with high accuracy. Can be estimated.
- Other configurations of the high-frequency antenna measurement system 10 according to the present embodiment are the same as those in FIGS. 1, 3, or 4, and detailed description thereof will be omitted here.
