Definitions
- the present invention relates to one for illuminating a target area, in particular in the form of an object.
- the invention also relates to a method for illuminating a target area.
- time-of-flight measurements are of great importance for various applications, including in the automotive sector.
- an object or a scene with a light for example from a laser briefly illuminated or illuminated and the period of time required for the pulse to return to a sensor is recorded.
- a relative speed of the object to the sensor can also be detected on the basis of a frequency shift.
- applications with so-called laser scanners should also be mentioned, in which the shape of an object is recorded.
- a depth can be inferred from a phase difference between different positions on the object. Phase information thus makes it possible to obtain depth information.
- the shape of the object plays a certain role in time-of-flight applications, as a result of which unspecific illumination means that the sensor can only insufficiently detect a signal.
- the signal can be falsified by additional reflections and thus the measurement can be impaired. Accordingly, one goes over to not completely illuminating an object, but to subdividing the object as a target area into partial areas and measuring them individually. This means that the illumination can be actively adapted to a specially designed sensor or to the object geometry can be achieved.
- moiré effects can be avoided and so-called speckle noise can be reduced by selectively illuminating an object.
- additional energy-saving measures can be implemented and thus the power consumption of the sensor and of the lighting instrument can be reduced.
- a double-sided radiation optics can be used, which bundles light on the one hand or collimated and on the other hand guides a defined light distribution to a part of the target area.
- each target field i . H .
- Each channel is divided into sub-areas that can be controlled by a light source and downstream optics.
- an assignment of the individual optics to the sub-areas of each channel is selected depending on a desired target distribution and light distribution of the light source.
- a number of optics are arranged between the light source and the sub-areas in such a way that each optic illuminates a sub-area of the target field.
- no direct assignment has to be made, i . H . the illumination can and should be crossed depending on the desired illumination of the target field and the intensity distribution of the light source.
- the position of an optic within the various optics for each channel does not necessarily correspond to the particular position of the illuminated sub-area within the channel.
- a channel, d. H . to subdivide a section of the target area into several sub-areas.
- Each of these sub-areas, arranged in a matrix form, is now assigned an optic.
- the optics form part of the device and serve to direct light from a light source onto this sub-area of the target area.
- the optics are designed in such a way that crossed light transmission also takes place or can take place.
- the sub-areas of a channel of a target area are thus not illuminated with light rays that are essentially parallel between run the individual sub-areas, but the main beam direction of the light for a sub-area crosses with the main beam direction for light in a second sub-area.
- an allocation of the channels to the areas of the target field can be mixed, i . H .
- the channels can be cross-illuminated.
- a device for illuminating a target area in particular in the form of an object, the target area being divided into channels to be illuminated, and each channel being divided into sub-areas, with each sub-area being assigned a position in a first matrix.
- the device comprises a light source arrangement which has a multiplicity of light sources arranged in a light matrix, each light source being assigned to one of the channels.
- An imaging device is arranged in the beam path of each light source and has a multiplicity of imaging optics arranged in a second matrix. Each imaging optic is designed to illuminate a sub-area of the channel, and each imaging optic is assigned a position in the second matrix.
- at least one imaging optics of the second matrix differs in terms of its position in the second matrix from a position of the subregion in the first matrix.
- a light intensity distribution of a light source can be adapted to a desired distribution in a target area.
- a light distribution can also be changed by the imaging optics, so that, for example, the incoming intensity can be scattered in a top-hat distribution. It is also possible to convert a Gaussian distribution into another distribution.
- flexible, adaptable illumination is created without changing the beam optics.
- the overall depth of the optics can also be reduced, so that the overall module size can be reduced. In this case, it is possible to produce the thickness of the optics in a range from 100 ⁇ m to 400 ⁇ m, as a result of which mass production of such optics on the basis of foil substrates becomes possible at low cost.
- a position of each imaging optic is given by a row and column value in the second matrix.
- a position of the sub-area is given by a row and column value in the first matrix.
- the assignment now takes place in such a way that at least one imaging optic has a row and column value that is different from the row and column value of the sub-area that is illuminated by the imaging optics.
- Other imaging optics can have the same row and column values as the sub-areas assigned to them. Such a case is called a direct assignment.
- at least two imaging optics are associated with the same sub-region. This can be expedient if the sub-area has to be specially illuminated and this requires several light guides.
- each imaging optics of the second matrix is different in terms of its position in the second matrix to a position of the sub-area in the first matrix. In other words, there is no direct association between the imaging optics and the sub-areas in such a device.
- one embodiment can also provide for at least two light sources to be assigned to one of the channels. Also such an application may be necessary here if special illumination of the channel is desirable.
- the assignment of the light source to the channel can also be direct, i . H . in analogy to imaging optics and sub-areas, each light source is in terms of its position in the light matrix corresponding to the position of a channel in a target area matrix. Alternatively, a position of the channel in the target area can be different with respect to a position of the light source in the light matrix.
- the imaging optics can be used with a variety of different light sources or. to be adapted to this .
- the imaging device includes a collimating lens disposed between the light source and imaging optics arranged in a second matrix.
- the collimation lens is used to collimate the bundle of rays emitted by the light source and deflect it onto the imaging optics.
- the collimating lens can be designed as a TIR lens.
- the collimating lens is surrounded by a prism structure for stray light suppression.
- collimating lenses of adjacent light sources are separated by such a prism structure.
- the collimating lens is arranged laterally decentered relative to the light source.
- the collimation lens can be arranged tilted with respect to an exit surface of the light source. By tilting or decentering, a main beam of the light source is deflected in the direction of the assigned channel due to the decentering of the collimation lens.
- the imaging device which may include a pixelated diffuser structure. In one aspect, this forms the imaging optics.
- the diffuser structure is arranged between the light source and the imaging optics arranged in a second matrix, with each pixel being designed for beam shaping dependent on the angle of incidence and sitting in front of the corresponding imaging optics.
- each pixel and/or each imaging optic has a prismatic element, with a light exit surface of the prism being arranged such that a corner of the light exit surface touches or is adjacent to a plane in which the prism is installed.
- the corners of the prismatic elements touch the same plane.
- the same plane can be touched by or adjacent to the corners of the pixelated diffuser structure or the second matrix.
- a first prismatic element can be designed as a pixel and a second prismatic element as imaging optics, which are arranged on both sides of a carrier.
- the imaging device comprises a carrier, with the pixelated diffuser structure being arranged on the side of the carrier facing the light source.
- the light source and the imaging device are connected to one another via a transparent layer with a low refractive index, in particular with a layer whose refractive index difference is greater than 0.02 in relation to the optical element.

- the following exemplary embodiments relate to various aspects and their combinations according to the proposed principle.
- the exemplary embodiments are not always shown to scale.
- various elements can be enlarged or reduced in order to emphasize individual aspects.
- the individual aspects of the embodiments shown in the above figures can be easily combined with one another without this contradicting the principle according to the invention.
- Some aspects show a regular structure or shape. It should be noted here that slight differences and deviations from the ideal form occur in practice, without this contradicting the inventive concept, however.
- the individual figures and aspects are not necessarily in tiger size, the size ratios between individual elements do not have to be essentially correct. Some aspects are highlighted by enlarging them.
- FIG. 1 shows an intensity distribution in a target area and the subdivision of the area into different channels in a 3*3 matrix.
- This so-called target distribution 10 serves to illuminate an object.
- the target distribution shows an elevation towards the corners. It is illuminated brighter towards the corners because the usual imaging lenses of the receiver sensors have less light throughput towards the edge of the field of view. This is intended to compensate for the intentionally inhomogeneous lighting with the aim of the light received by the sensor being largely homogeneous.
- a target distribution 10 can thus be selected depending on the object, but it can also be dependent on the respective application.
- a target distribution is selected that is essentially square in its outer areas and first rises in the edge area and then falls sharply.
- each channel is now identified by an X and a Y coordinate.
- the upper left channel is identified by the coordinates (1;1), the channel in the lower right area by the coordinates (3;3) .
- the individual channels are thus provided with the reference symbols 10 and can be clearly identified by their representation of coordinates.
- the target field can be subdivided into different channels either regularly, as shown in FIG. 1, or irregularly and even randomly.
- a channel for example channel 10(1;1), will now be used below and if necessary for the further explanation of the invention.
- FIG. 1 shows a schematic representation of a device for illuminating an object according to the proposed principle.
- the object is characterized by the target field 10 and, in its cross-sectional representation, comprises a total of five channels 10a, 10b to 10e, which are arranged one below the other. Additional channels can be provided for a two-dimensional target field, which reach into or out of the plane of the drawing.
- the object on the target field should now be illuminated using a specified distribution.
- the device comprises a light source arrangement 20, which in turn has a multiplicity of individual light sources 201a to 201g. Part of an imaging device 30 is assigned to each light source.
- the imaging device 30 includes a first imaging element 31a to 31e and downstream imaging optics 32a to 32e.
- each area of the imaging device i. H . an imaging element 31 and an optical system 32, which are associated with a light source, are designed such that they collimate the light from the light source on the one hand and then deflect it onto one of the illustrated channels 10a to 10e by means of the associated imaging optical system.
- the imaging optics are not directly assigned to the respective channel, but rather the imaging optics deflect the light emitted by the light source to another channel.
- the imaging optics 31a and 32a serve to deflect the light from the light source 2001a onto the channel 10b.
- the light from the light source 201b is deflected onto the channel 10a by the imaging optics 31b and 32b.
- the imaging device is designed with a plurality of elements 31a and 32a each in a matrix arrangement.
- This matrix arrangement corresponds to the matrix arrangement of the channels 10 and the light matrix of the light source arrangement 20 .
- each light source can thus be assigned directly to an optical system of the imaging arrangement 30 .
- the association is made in such a way that a position of the light source within the light source arrangement, indicated by the coordinate notation (X; Y), corresponds to the same position (X; Y) of an optical system in the imaging device.
- a direct match of such an assignment, i . H . in which the column and row position are identical in each case is referred to as direct assignment.
- the light from the imaging optics 32a is deflected onto the channel 10b.
- the channel 10b is arranged in the second row of the channel matrix 10 such that the row coordinate of the channel 10b differs from the row coordinate of the imaging optics 32a in the imaging device 30 .
- the line coordinates of the channels 10a, 10c, 10d and 10e also differ from the line coordinates of the imaging optics that illuminate the respective channels. This embodiment thus causes the target area to be illuminated in a criss-cross fashion.
- Such cross-illumination is always expedient when the light intensity of the individual light sources in the light matrix differs from the desired intensity distribution in the target field. Due to the crossed illumination, a desired intensity distribution in the target field can nevertheless be realized even with specified light sources and a specified light matrix 10 .
- FIG. 3 shows an embodiment of a light source arrangement in a matrix representation with a total of 9 different light sources.
- a coordinate representation is assigned to each light source, which makes the light source clearly identifiable within the light matrix. This consists of the row and column position of the respective light source within the light source arrangement.
- each light source is designed as a Lambertian radiator and is spaced apart from an adjacent light source within the matrix.
- the distance is chosen so that the front of the light source, d. H .
- the imaging device is arranged out of the plane of the drawing and receives the light emitted by the respective light source, collimates it and enters it deflects each channel of the target field.
- the distance between two adjacent light sources corresponds to at least twice the diameter of each light source.
- an upstream optic can have a diameter that is somewhat smaller than three times the diameter of a light source assigned to each of the optics.
- FIG. 4 now shows a perspective schematic view of a section of a device for illuminating an object.
- a light source 201a of the light source arrangement is shown.
- This light source is designed as a planar light source and is arranged in such a way that the light is emitted mainly in the direction of the imaging element 31a and is collected by it.
- the imaging element 31a with the coordinates (2; 3) is part of an imaging element matrix and, like the other imaging elements, is designed as a collimator lens.
- a collimator lens is used to generate light with an approximately parallel beam path from a diverging light source.
- the diverging light source is formed by the light source 201 .
- the collimator lens also allows the light to be directed in a specific way.
- the collimator lens 31a together with the other collimator lenses arranged in a matrix are thus arranged as imaging elements between the light source and the imaging optics 32a.
- the imaging optics 32a are designed as part of a (second) matrix of imaging optics. Each imaging optics 32a sits in the beam path of the collimator lens 31a.
- the imaging optics 32a now serves to separate the light emitted by the light source 201a and parallelized by the collimator lens 31a into individual sub-areas and to guide these sub-areas to corresponding sub-areas in the respective channel.
- the channel is subdivided into a number of sub-areas in its target area, with the sub-areas in turn being arranged within a matrix.
- the matrix of the sub-areas of the respective channel can be selected in such a way that the line or Number of columns corresponds to a number of rows and columns of the imaging optics 32a.
- an imaging device 30 is therefore provided which comprises a matrix 31 of imaging elements 31a and a downstream matrix 32 of imaging optics 32a.
- Each imaging optic is in turn subdivided into a matrix of sub-areas.
- the sub-areas of this matrix deflect incident light onto corresponding sub-areas in the channel of the target area.
- a direct or indirect assignment can take place.
- FIG. 7 shows such an example for a single light source 201a, an imaging element 31a and imaging optics 32a.
- the imaging element 31a comprises a collimator lens and is arranged between the light source 201a and the imaging optics 32a.
- the imaging optics 32a are in turn subdivided into a 5 ⁇ 5 matrix, with each sub-area being clearly identifiable by means of a coordinate representation.
- the sub-area in the top left corner can be identified by the coordinates (1; 1), the sub-area in the bottom right corner by the coordinate representation (5; 1).
- the channel in the target area is also subdivided into a corresponding 5 ⁇ 5 matrix, with each individual sub-area of the target area also being clearly identifiable by the coordinate representation.
- the imaging optics 32a are designed in such a way that they deflect light that falls through one of its sub-areas onto a sub-area in the target field.
- the imaging optics 32a are designed in such a way that they carry out an indirect association at least in some sub-areas.
- the optics in sub-region 32(1;1) direct an incident light onto target sub-region 100(1;1).
- the sub-area 32 (2; 1) directs the light onto the target area 100 (5; 2) and thus at least partially crosses over to other areas.
- Another example of such a crossed deflection is shown in sub-area 32(4;1) deflecting the light onto sub-area 100(1;5) target area.
- the light collected and collimated by the collimator lens is directed by the individual imaging optics 32 (1;1) to 32 (5;5) onto sub-areas of an associated channel, with the light deflected by the imaging optics falling on a sub-area of the channel , which differs in terms of its position from the position of the imaging optics in the second matrix.
- FIG. 6 shows a cross section through several imaging elements in the form of collimator lenses, which are connected to one another by a prismatic structure.
- Each collimator lens 31a images light from a light source 201a onto a plane 312 .
- plane 312 can contain the imaging optics, on the other hand it can also have a further structured surface in order to support suppression of undesired scattered light, as explained further below.
- each collimating lens includes a central axis shown in dashed lines in the figure.
- the light source arrangement can be arranged symmetrically to this central axis of the collimator lens, as is the case for the upper collimator lens. Alternatively, however, it is also possible to provide a light source decentrally from the central axis of the collimator lens 31a. Such an embodiment is shown for the lower collimator lens in FIG.
- the collimator lens effects a tilting of the main beam emitted by the light source 201a in a defined direction.
- the crossover illumination of the individual channels shown in FIG. 2 can be achieved.
- the decentering is expediently carried out up to a maximum distance which corresponds to approximately 0.75 times the width of the emission surface of the light source 201 .
- the radiation emitted by the light source 201a as a Lambertian radiator can fall on the surface of the collimator lens 31a on the one hand, but also on the prism structure 311 arranged next to it on the other hand. In the latter case, the light is reflected by the prism structure so that scattering is suppressed as well as possible. A further improvement and suppression of the scattered light can also be achieved by total reflection at the plane 312, which by means of a jump in refractive index compared to the surrounding medium rays totally reflected from a specific angle of incidence. the between The prismatic structures attached to the individual lenses thus serve to suppress stray light due to cross-coupling and reduce crosstalk into adjacent channels.
- FIGS. 5 and 8 A further embodiment with different imaging optics is shown in FIGS. 5 and 8.
- the imaging device between the target field and the light source is separated by a diffuser or Deflection structure implemented.
- FIG. 5 shows an embodiment of such a diffuser structure, which is part of the imaging device.
- a light source 201 is arranged in a semiconductor body 202 .
- a diffuser structure is arranged as an imaging element 31a following the light source in the beam path.
- the imaging optics 32a which together with the structure 31a form the imaging device, are arranged downstream of the diffuser structure in the beam path.
- FIG. 8 shows a schematic representation of the configuration of such an embodiment in which light is deflected to a desired sub-area in the channel of the target field by means of a diffuser and deflection structure.
- the light source 201a generates a light beam and radiates it onto a diffuser structure 31a.
- the diffuser structure 31a is subdivided into sub-areas, with the pixelation of the beam deflection or diffuser structure is spoken.
- Each pixel whose position can be represented in coordinate notation, focuses and directs the light towards a sub-region of the channel in the target field.
- the collimation quality of each pixel of the diffuser structure is given by the size of the sub-area.
- the angular characteristic of the light source 201a is important here. A sub-area of the diffuser structure thus only lets through a specific angular range of the incident radiation bundles this onto a corresponding assigned sub-area in the channel of the target field.
- the sub-areas of the diffuser structure 31a are designed in such a way that they bring about cross-illumination of the sub-areas of the channel in the target field. Similar to the embodiment of FIG. 7, the sub-area 31a (2; 1) focuses and directs the incident light onto the sub-area 100 (5; 2) in the channel of the target field. Another bundling The deflection can also be improved by the imaging optics 32a connected downstream. Depending on the configuration, it is thus possible to provide just one diffuser structure, but also two or more diffusers and deflection structures as imaging elements and imaging optics.
- the deflection and diffuser structure in FIG. 8 as well as the imaging optics in the various configurations can be designed in different ways.
- Figure 9 shows an embodiment of such a diffuser structure or. Imaging optics by means of so-called prismatic elements.
- a prismatic element is formed by a transparent prismatic structure whose surface is designed to be tiltable and rotatable about a vertical axis.
- the prismatic element is oriented with a base in space, in the sub-region, such that one corner touches the base into which the prismatic element is incorporated.
- the base area 325 is a planar plane on which the individual prism elements 320 are placed with their respective base areas.
- the corner 321 is the side of the prismatic element that is closest to the base 325 or touching the base.
- the surface of the prism i . H .
- the surface 324 of the prism facing away from the plane 325 can be convexly curved, spherical or free-form. This effects the desired deflection and beam shaping for each prismatic element as imaging optics.
- surface 324 is implemented as a free form, with a predetermined height above the center of the surface. The boundaries of this surface remain in an ideal model without curvature.
- rounding radii may occur due to the respective manufacturing method. Small rounding radii of the edges and tips of the prism are permissible as long as the rounding radius is less than 1/5 of the width of the base.
- Each prismatic element thus forms imaging optics and is arranged in the corresponding sub-region of the matrix of imaging optics 32a.
- Each matrix element is realized by a prismatic element 320 is shown in FIG.
- Each prismatic element can be characterized by tilt angle, rotation, and lenses by bending. This characterization then also determines the deflection of the light and thus the target area in the channel of the target field.
- each sub-area can also be covered with a diffuser or be formed deflection structure.
- This causes a deflection, rotation or tilting of the incoming intensity and a redistribution of the incoming intensity with a predefined distribution.
- the distribution can be a so-called TopHat distribution, for example, but also a Gaussian distribution or any other possible configuration.
- an additional microlens array can also be used as imaging optics.
- FIGS. 11a to 11d show different configurations for diffuser structures and prism arrays according to the proposed principle.
- the imaging device is formed by a support structure 300 on the front side or Back the imaging elements are used.
- FIG. 11a shows such an embodiment with a carrier 202 on which several light sources 201a are arranged at defined distances. The distances between the light sources 201a are chosen such that the light they emit is collected in an imaging element 31a. From this, the light is directed through a transparent support structure 300 in the direction of the respective channel of the target field or given the respective sub-area of the target field.
- each light source 201 is assigned a channel. This channel is in turn divided into sub-areas which correspond to sub-areas of the imaging elements 31a. In this case, as explained above, between the sub-areas of the imaging elements 31a and the sub-areas of a channel, a direct assignment, a crossover assignment or a combination of both is implemented.
- the transparent carrier 300 enables the imaging elements to be attached at a predefined distance from the light sources and, on the other hand, improves the outcoupling of light into the surrounding medium.
- the carrier structure 300 can have a high-index material.
- a low-index layer for example an adhesive layer, is arranged between the light source 201a and the imaging elements 31a. This adhesive layer has a low refractive index compared to the imaging elements 31a.
- FIGS. 11a to 11d Various configurations for imaging elements 31a and optical elements 32a are shown in FIGS. 11a to 11d.
- FIGS. 11a and 11c each show diffuser structures, while FIGS. 11b and 11d show prisms or prismatic elements are arranged.
- the imaging elements or the imaging optics are subdivided into a 4*4 matrix.
- the channel of the target area is divided into a 6*6 matrix, with each matrix element of the target field in the channel having a prismatic element 31a or 32a is assigned.
- imaging optics 32a as a diffuser respectively . applied prismatic structure.
- the beam deflection optics on the back are realized in air.
- the imaging element 31a in FIGS. 11c and 11d is embedded in a low-index adhesive layer.
- the imaging optics or the imaging element can be embodied as an injection molded part as a polymer in a molding process on the optics substrate 300 with thicknesses in the range of 500 ⁇ m. It is also conceivable to emboss imaging optics and imaging elements or to provide UV-coated foils with a thickness of 200 ⁇ m to 400 ⁇ m.

Description
HINTERGRUND

bzw . prismatische Struktur aufgebracht .
j eder Kanal in verschiedene Unterbereiche in Matrixform aufgeteilt .
