Definitions

  • the invention relates to a spit and/or noise protection device for attachment to a chair.
  • Spit protection devices that are fixedly or removably attachable to serving counters, especially for unpackaged foods, have been known for some time.
  • the reference US2006175940A1 shows such a device.
  • Spit protection devices worn on a person's head are also known, e.g. the devices known under the term "hygienic mask", which are made of non-woven, cellulose, or textile materials and cover one's mouth and nose, as shown in W00074509A1 , or transparent shields worn on one's head at a distance in front of the face, as e.g. shown in USD321268S.
  • hygienic masks cover a large area of the person's face and therefore their facial expression and lip movements cannot be seen while the person is speaking. Also, for wearers of glasses, fogging of the eyeglasses is a frequently observed problem. Persons having skin problems or sensitive skin often experience acne or allergic reactions. For persons suffering from respiratory problems or who are sensitive to phobias, the masks are constricting and can aggravate the problem. It is also known that wearing hygienic masks for several hours is negative as a part of the exhaled carbon dioxide is again inhaled. This may lead to fatigue, dizziness, etc. The transparent devices worn at a distance in front of the face may hinder the person, especially when making phone calls.
  • the protective device Due to the fact that the protective device is attached to a chair while in use, it allows the user extensive freedom of movement and still prevents co-workers, documents, work surfaces or keyboards from being contaminated by droplets emitted while speaking or sneezing.
  • the protective device also reduces the cleaning expenditure in the work environment.
  • the protective shield can be designed in such a way that the user's surroundings are less disturbed, especially by telephone calls made by the user.

  • Figures 4 and 6 show a unidirectionally curved protective shield 1 .
  • protective shield 1 may also be curved about two axes so that it has a bowl-shaped form that is concave as viewed from the person. It can be made of a transparent or sound-absorbing material. Combinations are also possible, e.g. in that the shield has a transparent area in the center and is covered with a sound-absorbing material such as fleece or foam at its edges.
  • the sound-absorbing material may be attached in a replaceable manner, e.g. by means of a Velcro fastener.
  • Protective shield 1 is held at one of its edges by means of a holder 2 to which a ball joint 3 is attached.

  • Ball joint 3 is supported by a relatively short arm 4 which in turn is fastened to a longer boom 6 by means of a joint 5 and in use extends over one shoulder of the person sitting on the chair.
  • boom 6 is mounted so as to extend over the shoulder of a person sitting on the chair on the left side.
  • Boom 6 is adjustable in length, as indicated by the double arrow. To this end, it may e.g. consist of two concentric, telescopically adjustable tubes. Boom 6 is held by means of a further joint 7 on a substantially vertically oriented support 8 so as to be able to pivot about an approximately vertical axis. Joint 7 allows protective shield 1 together with parts 2 to 6 to be swung away laterally, e.g. when the person sitting on the chair wants to stand up. Support 8 is also adjustable in length, and further details of support 8 will be discussed in more detail below in connection with the various embodiments. By means of joints 3, 5, and 7 as well as length-adjustable boom 6, the position of protective shield 1 in front of the person's face can be adjusted as desired.

  • retaining part 9 may be designed as a clamping device having rigid legs and a clamping screw. Retaining part 9 is either made relatively wide, so that the protective device cannot tilt about an axis parallel to the boom, or two retaining parts are provided with a connecting part (not shown) extending between them.

  • Figure 8 shows an embodiment where an angled support extension 8.1 is provided on support 8, which extension can be adjustable in length.
  • a clamping device 14 is attached by means of which the protective device can be fixed to the armrest of a chair.
