Abstract
본 발명의 실시예는 이차전지에 관한 것으로, 해결하고자 하는 기술적 과제는 안정성이 우수한 이차전지를 제공하는 데 있다. 이를 위해 본 발명은 전극조립체, 상기 전극조립체와 전해액을 수용하며, 상기 전극조립체 위에 비딩부가 형성되는 캔, 상기 캔을 밀봉하기 위한 캡조립체 및 적어도 상기 전극조립체와 상기 비딩부 사이를 포함하는 공간에 배치되며, 전해액과 접촉한 후 특정한 시간 이후에 상기 전해액과 반응하여 상기 전해액을 흡착할 수 있는 흡착부재를 포함하는 이차전지를 개시한다.
Description
본 발명의 실시예는 이차전지에 관한 것이다.
이차전지는 충전이 불가능한 일차전지와 달리 충전 및 방전이 가능한 전지를 말한다. 저용량의 이차전지는 스마트폰, 노트북(Laptop), 디지털카메라, 캠코더 등과 같이 휴대할 수 있는 소형 전자기기에 주로 사용되고, 대용량의 이차전지는 하이브리드자동차, 전기자동차 등에 모터구동 및 전력저장용으로 널리 사용되고 있다. 이에 따라 이차전지는 고밀도, 고출력, 안정성 등의 특성이 요구된다.
이러한 발명의 배경이 되는 기술에 개시된 상술한 정보는 본 발명의 배경에 대한 이해도를 향상시키기 위한 것일 뿐이며, 따라서 종래 기술을 구성하지 않는 정보를 포함할 수도 있다.
본 발명의 실시예는 안정성이 우수한 이차전지를 제공한다.
본 발명의 실시예에 따른 이차전지는 전극조립체, 상기 전극조립체와 전해액을 수용하며, 상기 전극조립체 위에 비딩부가 형성되는 캔, 상기 캔을 밀봉하기 위한 캡조립체 및 적어도 상기 전극조립체와 상기 비딩부 사이를 포함하는 공간에 배치되며, 전해액과 접촉한 후 특정한 시간 이후에 상기 전해액과 반응하여 상기 전해액을 흡착할 수 있는 흡착부재를 포함할 수 있다.
또한 상기 흡착부재는 적어도 아크릴바인더, OPS(Oriented Polystyrene) 또는 PVdF(Polyvinylidene Fluoride)를 포함하는 소재로 이루어질 수 있다.
또한 상기 전해액과 반응하지 않는 소재로 이루어져, 상기 전극조립체와 상기 흡착부재 사이에 배치되는 절연부재를 더 포함할 수 있다.
또한 상기 절연부재는 필름 형태로 형성될 수 있다.
또한 상기 흡착부재와 상기 절연부재는 서로 결합되어 있을 수 있다.
또한 상기 흡착부재는 상기 비딩부에 대응되는 형상으로 형성될 수 있다.
또한 상기 흡착부재는 시트 형태로 형성되되, 그 가장자리가 상방으로 절곡되어 있을 수 있다.
본 발명의 실시예는 이차전지 조립을 완료한 이후에 충전으로 음극이 팽창하여 전해액이 비딩부 아래에 고립된 공극으로 일부 밀려나게 되더라도 흡착부재가 그 전해액을 흡착함으로써, 비딩부가 부식되는 것을 방지하고, 저전압 발현을 해결할 수 있는 이차전지를 제공한다.

도 1은 본 발명의 일 실시예에 따른 이차전지(100)의 사시도이고, 도 2는 본 발명의 일 실시예에 따른 이차전지(100)의 단면도이며, 도 3은 도 2에서 Ⅲ 부분의 확대도이다.
도 1 내지 도 3을 참조하면 본 발명의 일 실시예에 따른 이차전지(100)는 전극조립체(110), 캔(120), 캡조립체(130) 및 흡착부재(140)를 포함한다.
전극조립체(110)는 제1 전극(111), 제2 전극(112) 및 세퍼레이터(113)를 포함하여, 이른바 젤리롤 형태로 권취될 수 있다.
제1 전극(111)은 제1 기재에 제1 활물질을 도포하여 압연함으로써 형성되는 제1 도포부 및 제1 활물질이 도포되지 않은 제1 무지부를 갖는다. 또한 제1 무지부로부터 제1 탭(111A)이 상방으로 인출되어, 후술할 캡조립체(130)에 전기적으로 연결될 수 있다. 이러한 제1 전극(111)은 양극으로서 역할을 할 수 있다. 이 경우 제1 기재는 예컨대 알루미늄 포일로 이루어지고, 제1 활물질은 예컨대 전이금속산화물로 이루어질 수 있다.
제2 전극(112)은 제2 기재에 제2 활물질을 도포하여 압연함으로써 형성되는 제2 도포부 및 제2 활물질이 도포되지 않은 제2 무지부를 갖는다. 또한 제2 무지부로부터 제2 탭(112A)이 하방으로 인출되어, 후술할 캔(120)에 전기적으로 연결될 수 있다. 이러한 제2 전극(112)은 음극으로서 역할을 할 수 있다. 이 경우 제2 기재는 예컨대 구리 또는 니켈 포일로 이루어지고, 제2 활물질은 예컨대 흑연으로 이루어질 수 있다.
세퍼레이터(113)는 제1 전극(111)과 제2 전극(112) 사이에 개재되어, 제1 전극(111)과 제2 전극(112) 간의 단락을 방지하되, 예컨대 리튬 이온의 이동을 허용하는 역할을 한다. 이러한 세퍼레이터(113)는 예컨대 폴리에틸렌 또는 폴리프로필렌 필름, 폴리에틸렌 및 폴리프로필렌 복합 필름 등으로 이루어질 수 있다.
캔(120)은 전극조립체(110)와 전해액을 수용한다. 도면에서는 캔(120)이 대체적으로 원통형으로 형성되는 것으로 예시되어 있으나, 본 발명의 기술적 사상이 반드시 '원통형 이차전지'로 제한되는 것은 아니다. 다만 이하에서는 편의상 '원통형 이차전지'로 예를 들어 설명한다.
캔(120)은 초기에 상면이 개구되어 있다. 이에 그 상면을 통해 캔(120) 내에 전극조립체(110)가 설치되고 전해액이 주입된 후 전극조립체(110)의 유동을 방지하기 위한 비딩부(121)가 형성되며, 비딩부(121) 위에 캡조립체(130)가 설치된 후 캡조립체(130)를 고정하기 위한 크림핑부(122)가 형성됨으로써 마무리될 수 있다.
이러한 캔(120)은 예컨대 니켈 도금을 갖는 철로 이루어질 수 있다.
또한 여기서 전해액은 예컨대 EC(Ethylene Carbonate), PC(Propylene Carbonate), DEC(Diethyl Carbonate), DMC(Dimethyl Carbonate), EMC(Ethyl Methyl Carbonate) 등과 같은 유기용매 및 LiPF6, LibF4 등과 같은 리튬염으로 이루어질 수 있다.
캡조립체(130)는 캔(120)을 밀봉하기 위한 것으로, 캡업(131), 안전벤트(132), 캡다운(133) 및 인슐레이터(134)를 포함한다.
캡업(131)은 상방으로 볼록하게 돌출되어 외부회로에 접속되기 위한 단자부(131A) 및 단자부(131A) 주변에 형성되어 가스를 배출하기 위한 배출구(131B)를 갖는다.
안전벤트(132)는 캡업(131) 아래에 배치된다. 또한 안전벤트(132)는 하방으로 볼록하게 돌출되어 제1 탭(111A)에 전기적으로 연결되는 돌출부(132A) 및 노치(132B)를 갖는다. 이러한 안전벤트(132)는 이차전지(100)의 과충전 또는 이상 작동으로 내부에 가스가 발생할 경우, 그 압력에 의해 돌출부(132A)가 상방을 향해 변형됨으로써 제1 탭(111A)으로부터 분리되는 한편, 노치(132B)를 따라 절개됨으로써 가스를 방출하여, 이차전지(100)의 폭발을 방지하는 역할을 한다.
캡다운(133)은 안전벤트(132) 아래에 배치된다. 또한 캡다운(133)은 안전벤트(132)의 돌출부(132A)가 위치하게 되는 관통홀(133A) 및 앞서 언급한 바와 같이 내부에 가스가 발생할 경우 그 가스를 배출하기 위한 배출구(133B)를 갖는다.
인슐레이터(134)는 안전벤트(132)와 캡다운(133) 사이에 배치되어, 이들을 절연한다.
흔히 이차전지(100)는 전술한 바와 같이 캔(120) 내에 전극조립체(110)가 설치되고 전해액이 주입된 후 비딩부(121)가 형성되며, 비딩부(121) 위에 캡조립체(130)가 설치된 후 크림핑부(122)가 형성되는 과정에서, 그 압박에 의해 비딩부(121)가 눌려, 비딩부(121) 아래에 고립된 공극(V)이 생길 수 있다.
따라서 충전으로 제2 전극(즉 음극)(112)이 팽창할 경우, 전해액이 해당 공극(V)으로 일부 밀려나게 되어, 비딩부(121)와 접촉할 수 있다. 다시 말해 전극조립체(110)와 비딩부(121)가 전해액에 의해 서로 연결될 수 있다. 이때 비딩부(121)는 성형에 의한 응력으로 니켈 도금이 다소 취약한 상태이기 때문에, 쉽게 부식되어 니켈 이온이 제2 전극(112)으로 석출될 수 있다. 이는 결국 저전압 발현이라는 문제를 야기한다.
이러한 문제를 해결하기 위해, 적어도 전극조립체(110)와 비딩부(121) 사이를 포함하는 영역에 흡착부재(140)가 배치될 수 있다. 도면에서는 흡착부재(140)가 판형으로 형성되어, 전극조립체(110) 위에 전체적으로 걸쳐 있는 것으로 예시되어 있다.
특히 흡착부재(140)는 전해액과 접촉한 후 특정한 시간 이후에 전해액과 반응하여 그 전해액을 흡착할 수 있다. 다시 말해 흡착부재(140)는 이차전지(100)를 조립할 때 주입되는 전해액과 즉각적으로 반응하는 것이 아니라, 그 이후에 공극(V)에 유리되는 전해액과 반응하여 그 전해액을 흡착한다.
따라서 이차전지(100) 조립을 완료한 이후에 충전으로 음극이 팽창하여 전해액이 공극(V)으로 일부 밀려나게 되더라도 흡착부재(140)가 그 전해액을 흡착함으로써, 비딩부(121)가 부식되는 것을 방지할 수 있다.
이러한 흡착부재(140)는 예컨대 아크릴바인더, OPS(Oriented Polystyrene), PVdF(Polyvinylidene Fluoride), 그 조합 등으로 이루어질 수 있다.
또한 흡착부재(140)는 원통형 이차전지의 일반적인 사이즈, 유리될 전해액의 평균적인 양 등을 감안하여, 약 0.05 g 내지 0.1 g 정도의 전해액을 흡착할 수 있도록 약 0.3 ㎜ 내지 0.6 ㎜ 두께로 형성될 수 있다.
아래 표 1은 40 ㎛ 두께의 아크릴바인더 필름(샘플)을 전해액에 넣고 특정한 시간 동안 전체 무게를 측정한 결과이다.

(단위: ㎎) 상온과 고온에 대해 각각 12회 실험한 결과, 샘플을 전해액에 넣고 약 1시간 내지 2시간 이후에 무게가 증가하고, 그 이후에 무게가 거의 일정하게 유지됨을 알 수 있다.
이는 흡착부재(140)가 이차전지(100)를 조립할 때 주입되는 전해액과 즉각적으로 반응하지 않되, 그 이후에 공극(V)에 유리되는 전해액과 충분히 반응하여 그 전해액을 효과적으로 흡착할 수 있음을 나타낸다.
도 4는 본 발명의 다른 실시예에 따른 이차전지(200)의 단면도로, 도 2에서 Ⅲ 부분에 대응되는 부분의 확대도이다.
도 4를 참조하면 본 발명의 다른 실시예에 따른 이차전지(200)는 앞서 도 1 내지 도 3을 참조하여 설명한 본 발명의 일 실시예에 따른 이차전지(100)와 비교할 때, 절연부재(250)를 더 포함한다는 점에서 차이가 있다.
절연부재(250)는 예컨대 PP(Polypropylene) 또는 그밖에 전해액과 반응하지 않는 고분자로 이루어져, 전극조립체(110)와 흡착부재(240) 사이에 배치된다.
이에 의하면 흡착부재(240)의 하부가 절연부재(250)에 의해 보호되어, 이차전지(100)를 조립할 때 주입되는 전해액과 접촉하지 않기 때문에, 조립 시 전해액 함침에 영향을 미치지 않고, 추후에 공극(V)에 유리되는 전해액을 더 효과적으로 흡착할 수 있는 이점이 있다.
이러한 절연부재(250)는 예컨대 약 0.2 ㎜ 내외 두께의 시트로 형성될 수 있다. 이 경우 흡착부재(240)는 원통형 이차전지(200)의 일반적인 사이즈, 유리될 전해액의 평균적인 양 등을 감안하여, 약 0.05 g 내지 0.1 g 정도의 전해액을 흡착할 수 있도록 약 0.2 ㎜ 내지 0.4 ㎜ 두께로 형성될 수 있다.
또는 절연부재(250)는 예컨대 약 0.05 ㎜ 이하 두께의 필름으로 형성될 수 있다. 이에 의하면 절연부재(250)의 두께가 감소한 만큼 흡착부재(140)의 두께가 증가할 수 있기 때문에, 전해액을 더욱 효과적으로 흡착할 수 있는 이점이 있다. 이 경우 흡착부재(240)는 약 0.05 g 내지 0.1 g 정도의 전해액을 흡착하기 위해 약 0.3 ㎜ 내지 0.6 ㎜ 두께로 형성될 수 있다.
나아가 흡착부재(240)와 절연부재(250)는 예컨대 양면테이프에 의해 서로 결합되어, 조립 시 캔(120) 내에 일체로 설치될 수 있다.
또는 흡착부재(240)와 절연부재(250)는 조립 시 캔(120) 내에 별개로 설치될 수 있다. 이를테면 전극조립체(110) 위에 절연부재(250)가 먼저 설치되고, 그 절연부재(250) 위에 흡착부재(240)가 더 설치될 수 있다.
본 발명의 다른 실시예에 따른 이차전지(200)에서, 그밖에 다른 사항들은 앞서 도 1 내지 도 3을 참조하여 설명한 본 발명의 일 실시예에 따른 이차전지(100)와 실질적으로 동일하거나 통상의 기술자라면 전술한 차이에 기반하여 당연히 변경할 것으로 예상되는 정도이므로, 이에 대한 설명은 생략한다.
도 5는 본 발명의 또 다른 실시예에 따른 이차전지(300)의 단면도로, 도 2에서 Ⅲ 부분에 대응되는 부분의 확대도이다.
도 5를 참조하면 본 발명의 또 다른 실시예에 따른 이차전지(300)는 앞서 도 1 내지 도 3을 참조하여 설명한 본 발명의 일 실시예에 따른 이차전지(100)와 비교할 때, 흡착부재(340)가 비딩부(121)의 하부에 대응되는 형상으로 형성된다는 점에서 차이가 있다. 이를테면 흡착부재(340)의 가장자리가 상방으로 약간 볼록하게 돌출되어, 상기 공극(V)을 메우는 형태로 형성된다.
이를 위해 사출금형에 관련 형상을 적용하여 흡착부재(340)를 제조할 수도 있고, 흡착부재(340)의 나머지 영역을 절삭하여 그 형상을 구현할 수도 있다.
본 발명의 또 다른 실시예에 따른 이차전지(300)에서, 그밖에 다른 사항들은 앞서 도 1 내지 도 3을 참조하여 설명한 본 발명의 일 실시예에 따른 이차전지(100)와 실질적으로 동일하거나 통상의 기술자라면 전술한 차이에 기반하여 당연히 변경할 것으로 예상되는 정도이므로, 이에 대한 설명은 생략한다.
도 6은 본 발명의 또 다른 실시예에 따른 이차전지(400)의 단면도로, 도 2에서 Ⅲ 부분에 대응되는 부분의 확대도이다.
도 6을 참조하면 본 발명의 또 다른 실시예에 따른 이차전지(400)는 앞서 도 5를 참조하여 설명한 본 발명의 또 다른 실시예에 따른 이차전지(300)와 비교할 때, 흡착부재(440)가 비딩부(121)의 하부에 대응되는 형상으로 형성된다는 점은 동일하나, 그 형상을 구현하는 방식에 있어서 차이가 있다.
보다 구체적으로 흡착부재(440)는 얇은 시트로 형성되되, 그 가장자리가 상방으로 절곡됨으로써, 상기 공극(V)을 메우는 형태를 갖게 된다.
본 발명의 또 다른 실시예에 따른 이차전지(400)에서, 그밖에 다른 사항들은 앞서 도 5를 참조하여 설명한 본 발명의 또 다른 실시예에 따른 이차전지(300)와 실질적으로 동일하거나 통상의 기술자라면 위 차이에 기반하여 당연히 변경할 것으로 예상되는 정도이므로, 이에 대한 설명은 생략한다.
이상에서 설명한 것은 본 발명에 따른 이차전지(100, 200, 300, 400)를 실시하기 위한 하나의 실시예에 불과한 것으로서, 본 발명은 상기한 실시예에 한정되지 않고, 이하의 특허청구범위에서 청구하는 바와 같이 본 발명의 요지를 벗어남이 없이 당해 발명이 속하는 분야에서 통상의 지식을 가진 자라면 누구든지 다양한 변경 실시가 가능한 범위까지 본 발명의 기술적 정신이 있다고 할 것이다.
Claims (7)
- 전극조립체,상기 전극조립체와 전해액을 수용하며, 상기 전극조립체 위에 비딩부가 형성되는 캔,상기 캔을 밀봉하기 위한 캡조립체 및적어도 상기 전극조립체와 상기 비딩부 사이를 포함하는 공간에 배치되며, 전해액과 접촉한 후 특정한 시간 이후에 상기 전해액과 반응하여 상기 전해액을 흡착할 수 있는 흡착부재를 포함하는 이차전지.
- 제1항에 있어서,상기 흡착부재는 적어도 아크릴바인더, OPS(Oriented Polystyrene) 또는 PVdF(Polyvinylidene Fluoride)를 포함하는 소재로 이루어지는 이차전지.
- 제1항에 있어서,상기 전해액과 반응하지 않는 소재로 이루어져, 상기 전극조립체와 상기 흡착부재 사이에 배치되는 절연부재를 더 포함하는 이차전지.
- 제3항에 있어서,상기 절연부재는 필름 형태로 형성되는 이차전지.
- 제3항에 있어서,상기 흡착부재와 상기 절연부재는 서로 결합되어 있는 이차전지.
- 제1항에 있어서,상기 흡착부재는 상기 비딩부에 대응되는 형상으로 형성되는 이차전지.
- 제1항에 있어서,상기 흡착부재는 시트 형태로 형성되되, 그 가장자리가 상방으로 절곡되어 있는 이차전지.
