L'orifice de respiration est un embout buccal permettant d'inhaler la vapeur atomisée ou la vapeur d'eau, et peut être pourvu d'un tube pour guider la vapeur hors du récipient de liquide. Le dispositif permet une administration de médicament directement et uniformément sur le système respiratoire, permet d'obtenir une administration de médicament pour le système respiratoire ou les bronches et les poumons sans percer la peau par injection, et augmente la concentration de médicament dans le système respiratoire au moins dans une certaine mesure.
