Abstract

BACKGROUND
1. Field of the Disclosed Subject Matter

2. Background
[0002] Nutrition for animals include pet chews made from plant and animal materials. Animals desire food that is, in part, palatable, and pet owners prefer food that is nutritious and that do not create much debris when consumed.
SUMMARY
[0003] An embodiment of the disclosed subject matter includes a pet chew with a generally spherical first portion forming a first portion outer perimeter, and a second portion surrounding the first portion. The second portion forms an inner perimeter adjacent the first portion outer perimeter, and a second portion outer perimeter.
[0004] An embodiment of the disclosed subject matter includes a pet chew with a third portion surrounding the second portion. The third portion forms an inner perimeter adjacent the second portion outer perimeter, and a third portion outer perimeter. In various embodiments the first portion includes carob and cereal. In various embodiments the second portion includes carob, peanut, and yogurt. In various embodiments the third portion includes carob, peanut, and yogurt.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION
[0011] The disclosed subject matter pertains to an object or a pet chew 100 having layers of plant and animal derived materials. Referring to FIGS. 1-2, an embodiment the pet chew 100 has a first portion 102 of a first composition surrounded by a second portion 110 of a second composition. The first portion 102 has an outer perimeter 104 defining a diameter 106 of the portion. In an aspect, the perimeter 104 defines a generally spherical first portion 102. The second portion 110 has a thickness 116 extending between and defined by an inner perimeter 112 adjacent the outer perimeter 104 and an outer perimeter 114. In an aspect, the second portion 110 contacts and completely encompasses the first portion 102 forming an unbroken layer of material.
[0012] Referring to FIGS. 3-4, an embodiment, the pet chew 100 includes a third portion 120 of a third composition surrounding the second portion 110. The third portion 120 has a thickness 126 extending between and defined by an inner perimeter 122 adjacent the outer perimeter 114 and an outer perimeter 124. In an aspect, the third portion 120 completely encompasses the second portion 120 forming an unbroken layer of material.
[0013] The shape and thickness of the first, second, and third portions are formed from the volume and weight of the ingredients used to prepare each portion, and in some embodiments the volume and weight can vary by plus or minus 10 percent.
[0014] A method of manufacturing the pet chew 100 includes formation of a first portion 102 formed from carob or cereal. Referring to FIG. 5, in an embodiment, the first portion 102 is formed from a first half-center 130 having a generally flat first facel32 and a second half-center 134 having a generally flat first face 136, and fusing the flat faces together to form a generally spherical first portion 102 forming a generally equatorial seam 138 circumscribing the pet chew 100. In an embodiment, a carob first portion 102 is formed by tumbling unsweetened carob, such as unsweetened carob chips, in a container, such as a tumbling pan, until the carob forms generally spherical shapes. Heat can be applied to the process to encourage formation of the spherical shape. In another embodiment, the carob first portion 102 is formed by extrusion. In an aspect, the cereal is brown rice flour. In an embodiment, the first portion 102 includes a therapeutic amount of cannabidiol (CBD).

The carob-based second portion 110 is formed by melting fat, such as palm kernel oil, followed by the addition of sunflower lecithin. Next, unsweetened carob is added to a container. The melted fat and sunflower lecithin mixture is slowly added to the carob mixture, and the combined mixture is mixed for at about 3 minutes forming a homogenous mixture. The mixture is then prepared to be applied to the first portion 102 by either transferring the second portion 110 into a melting apparatus set at or about approximately 100 degrees Fahrenheit, or in a food grade container at ambient temperature, such as room temperature. In an embodiment, the mixture comprises about 66.90 percent by weight of unsweetened carob chips, about 33 percent by weight of palm kernel oil, and about 0.10 percent by weight of sunflower lecithin.

Claims

CLAIMS Having described the disclosed subject matter, what is claimed as new and desired to be secured by Letters Patent is:
1. A pet chew, comprising: a generally spherical first portion forming a first portion outer perimeter; and a second portion surrounding the first portion, the second portion forming: an inner perimeter adjacent the first portion outer perimeter; and a second portion outer perimeter.
2. The pet chew of claim 1, wherein the first portion is formed from carob.
3. The pet chew of claim 2, wherein the carob comprises: unsweetened carob; palm kernel oil; and sunflower lecithin.
4. The pet chew of claim 1, wherein the first portion is formed from cereal.
5. The pet chew of claim 1, further comprising a third portion surrounding the second portion, the third portion forming: an inner perimeter adjacent the second portion outer perimeter; and an outer perimeter.
6. The pet chew of claim 5, wherein the third portion comprises: unsweetened carob; palm kernel oil; and sunflower lecithin.
7. The pet chew of claim 6, wherein the second portion comprises: peanut flour; palm kernel oil; and sunflower lecithin.
8. The pet chew of claim 6, wherein the second portion comprises: yogurt powder; palm kernel oil; and sunflower lecithin.

A pet chew, comprising: a generally spherical first portion forming a first portion outer perimeter; a second portion sprayed on the first portion, the second portion forming: an inner perimeter contacting the first portion outer perimeter; and a second portion outer perimeter; and wherein the pet chew comprises about 14.46 percent by weight of the first portion.
10. The pet chew of claim 9, wherein the pet chew comprises about 85.55 percent by weight of the second portion.
11. The pet chew of claim 9, further comprising: a third portion sprayed on the second portion, the third portion forming: an inner perimeter contacting the second portion outer perimeter; and an outer perimeter; and wherein the pet chew comprises: about 47.70 percent by weight of the second portion; and about 37.85 percent by weight of the third portion.
12. A method of forming a pet chew, comprising the steps of: forming a first portion from a first composition, wherein the first portion is generally spherical; forming a second portion surrounding the first portion, wherein the second portion is from a second composition sprayed onto the first portion as the first portion is tumbled in a container.
13. The method of claim 12, wherein the first composition includes carob.
14. The method of claim 12, wherein the first composition includes cereal.
15. The method of claim 12, further comprising the step of: forming a third portion surrounding the second portion, wherein the third portion is formed from a third composition sprayed onto the second portion as the pet chew is tumbled in a container.
16. The method of claim 15, wherein the second composition includes peanut flour.
17. The method of claim 15, wherein the second composition includes yogurt powder.
18. The method of claim 15, wherein the third composition includes carob.
19. The method of claim 12, wherein the first portion is formed from a first half center combined with a second half-center.
